The expanded metal treads are also open on the bottom, allowing dirt and debris to pass through the running board and keeping your cargo van interior clean. This Grip Step rear step is constructed from powder-coated aluminum to ensure the highest le vel of corrosion resistance and maintain a professional look on your vehicle. Aluminum is also strong and lightweight. It keeps unnecessary weight off your van, unlike steel, promoting better gas mileage and extending the life of the vehicle. For a custom fit without the hassle, all LUVERNE rear ste ps are made for vehicle-specific installation. Customized brackets integrate with the vehicle's existing design and ensure maximum strength and rigidity. The step assembly includes: one 54-inch grip step board (black), two spacer plates (galvanized), two support braces (galvanized), two end caps (black), four carriage bolts (5/16-18 x 1.0, stainless steel), four self-drilling tek screws (#8 x 1/2, stainless steel, black), four flat washers (5/16, stainless steel), and four serrated flange nuts (5/16, stainless steel).
The Model 401478 Rear Grip-Step Brackets are specifically designed for 2014 and newer RAM ProMaster Vans. If your vehicle is a 2014 or later RAM ProMaster, these brackets will fit. For other vehicle models, you will need a different bracket package designed for your specific vehicle.

The Model 401478 bracket package for 2014+ RAM ProMaster includes: one lower rear left bracket (black), one lower rear right bracket (black), one upper rear left bracket (black), one upper rear right bracket (black), two T-bolt weldments (1/2-13 x 1.25, zinc plated), two hex flange nuts (1/2-13, zinc plated), four hex head screws (3/8-16 x 1.00, stainless steel, black), four flat washers (3/8, stainless steel, black), and four hex flange nuts (3/8-16, stainless steel, black).
Before starting installation, read the complete instructions and verify that all required parts listed in the Service Parts List are on hand. For RAM ProMaster installation, you will also need to confirm that the 10mm threaded stud is accessible under the frame rail and that the square body plugs at the bottom of the frame rails can be removed.
Slide the end cap (Item #5) over each end of the step board (Item #1). Using the supplied #8 x 1/2 self-drilling tek screw (Item #6), screw the end caps to the bottom of the step. Install one end cap on each end.
Set the step on the mounting brackets. Slide the two support braces (Item #3) inside the channel of the step. Attach the flat spacer plate (Item #2) to the bottom of the step, positioned above the top of the bracket.
Use the supplied 5/16-18 x 1.0 carriage bolts (Item #4), flat washers (Item #7), and serrated flange nuts (Item #8) to attach the step assembly, support bracket, and spacer plate to the mounting bracket. Four bolts are provided.
1. Locate the 10mm threaded stud facing forward under the frame rail and remove the nut (save it for reuse). 2. Remove the square body plugs at the bottom of the frame rails and scrape any undercoating from where the bracket will contact. 3. Install the T-bolt (Item #5) into the hole with the long tab pointed toward the front of the vehicle. 4. Install the upper brackets (Items #3, #4) on the T-bolt and factory stud using the existing 10mm nut and the supplied 1/2-13 nut (Item #6), then tighten. 5. Attach the lower brackets (Items #1, #2) and load reaction stud bracket (Item #10) to the upper bracket using the supplied 3/8-16 x 1.0 bolts, washers, and nuts (Items #7, #8, #9), keeping these fasteners loose for final adjustment.
The lower bracket fasteners (3/8-16 x 1.0 bolts, washers, and nuts) should be kept loose during installation to allow for final adjustment. This ensures proper alignment before the fasteners are fully tightened.
After attaching the step assembly to the mounting brackets, the step should be positioned so it is level (not tilted or angled). Once the step is level, all fasteners should be tightened to secure it in that position.
Yes. When installing the Model 401478 brackets on a RAM ProMaster, you must remove and save the existing 10mm nut from the threaded stud under the frame rail. This nut is reused when installing the upper brackets.
Undercoating must be scraped from the underside of the vehicle where the bracket will contact the frame. This ensures proper metal-to-metal contact and secure mounting of the bracket.
