Taylor Made has produced marine products since 1908, beginning as a canvas and awning business in Gloversville, New York. The line covers vinyl fenders and buoys, boat covers and bimini tops, acrylic and tempered glass windshields, dock hardware, flags and boating accessories, built for saltwater and freshwater service and manufactured largely in the United States.
Nelson A. Taylor opened a canvas and awning shop in Gloversville, New York in 1908, stitching horse cart and automobile tops, storefront awnings and tents. The move into boating came in the mid-1940s with a line of sewn canvas boat covers. When Nelson died in 1946 his son Willard took over and reinvented the business, pushing it into manufacturing methods and materials that would define the modern recreational marine market. Three generations of the Taylor family ran the company before it was acquired by Lippert in 2018.
Several of the products the industry now takes for granted started here. Taylor Made introduced the first wraparound acrylic windshield for motorboats in 1951, later developed the first curved tempered safety glass windshield, and in 1971 became the first supplier to offer vinyl fenders guaranteed for the life of the boat, a guarantee still attached to its fenders today. Advances in glass bending and stainless steel processing followed, and the company remains a leading supplier of marine glazing to boat builders as well as the aftermarket.
For boat owners, the catalog covers the practical hardware of getting on and off the water. Fenders, buoys, covers, bimini tops, dock products, flags, pennants and rigging accessories make up the aftermarket range, and boat trailer owners will find the brand alongside boat guides, bunk mats and bunk mat covers that protect a hull during loading, along with marine utility jacks and winch straps used on the trailer itself.
Materials are chosen for a punishing environment: UV-stable vinyls, marine-grade stainless fittings and canvas engineered to shed water and resist mildew. Products are built in the United States across a network of facilities, and the brand serves boat builders, dealers and owners of everything from small aluminium fishing boats to large cruisers.
