Each UWS tool box is built from extra-thick aluminum welded into a single-piece tub. This provides the tool box with reliable strength and helps keep the interior sealed off from the elements. Aluminum construction also makes the box highly resistant to corrosion for long-lasting use. To add even more strength to the crossover truck tool box, the lid features our patented RigidCore foam-filled design. Layered between two sheets of aluminum, this core greatly increases the structural integrity of the lid to prevent bending and warping and to ensure smooth opening and closing. The lid is able to open to a full 90 degrees, providing better access to tools, equipment and other stored items. It also features self-opening struts to make it easy to open the box when your hands are full. To keep out moisture, dirt and even insects, the lid is also fitted with a MicroSeal gasket that seals off the inside of the tool box from the outside elements. UWS crossover truck tool boxes make it easy to keep your tools and other items organized, featuring built-in screwdriver holders and a three-compartment sliding tool tray. You must verify clearance during installation. In Step 1, open the tool box lid and ensure there is clearance between the open lid, top and back of the cab before finalizing placement. This check is required because cab heights and bed configurations vary.
You will need: a ratchet, socket set, and tape measure. These are the only tools listed as required for installation.
Before drilling, check under your vehicle to ensure the drill location does not puncture, cut or obstruct any brake fluid lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, fuel tanks, or other components. Precaution must also be taken that all fasteners near the fuel tank do not create the possibility of fuel tank puncture or damage during a collision.
In Step 1, place the tool box in the truck bed and use a tape measure to ensure it is centered. Attach the adhesive side of the rail pads to the underside of the tool box ends, then place the tool box with the rail pads adhered on top of the truck bed rails. Open the lid and verify clearance between the open lid and the top and back of the cab.
In Step 2, place a J-hook under the lip of the bed rail and insert the threaded end up through the slot. Use only one hole and J-hook assembly on each side. Attach with a washer and nut, and snug the hardware but do not fully tighten yet. Repeat on the other side, then re-measure to ensure the tool box is centered and allows lid clearance when open. Finally, fully tighten all hardware.
The general torque specification for 1/4" bolts is 3 ft-lbs. However, the manual notes that these are general guidelines.
