Weigh Safe manufactures adjustable trailer hitches with a built-in tongue weight scale, letting drivers read tongue weight directly at the hitch instead of guessing. Products include adjustable ball mounts, weight distribution hitches, gooseneck balls and towing accessories, machined from aircraft-grade aluminum and stainless steel on CNC equipment at the company's Lindon, Utah facility.
Weigh Safe entered the towing industry in November 2013 with a patented adjustable ball mount that had a tongue weight scale built into it. The product won Best New Tools and Equipment Product at that year's SEMA Show, and it addressed a genuine gap: tongue weight is one of the most important numbers in safe towing, and until then almost nobody could measure it without a truck scale or a bathroom scale and a lever. Founder Kevin McAllister spent more than a decade developing the design and accumulated fourteen U.S. patents over his career, nearly all of them aimed at safety.
The core product remains the adjustable ball mount, where a hydraulic gauge in the shank reads tongue weight as the trailer is coupled. Getting that number right keeps the tow vehicle's steering axle loaded and reduces the tendency toward trailer sway. The range has since grown to include the True Tow weight distribution system, which applies the same measurement principle to weight distribution setups, along with the CERT and Aero hitch lines, gooseneck balls and a broad range of towing accessories.
Weigh Safe is headquartered in Lindon, Utah, where its mechanical, manufacturing and electrical engineering teams work alongside production. Components are cut from aircraft-grade aluminum, stainless steel and high-quality steel, then machined to tight tolerances on CNC equipment. Every product moves through inspection and testing intended to meet or exceed published industry standards, and the company states it now manufactures more aluminum adjustable trailer hitches than any other U.S. hitch maker.
The products serve RV owners, boat and horse trailer owners, contractors and anyone towing near the limits of their vehicle, where knowing the actual tongue weight rather than estimating it changes how the rig behaves. Interchangeable hitch balls and keyed locks let one ball mount cover several trailers.

The Weigh Safe Cerakote Black Drop Hitch is a towing hitch designed to connect a trailer to a vehicle. It features an adjustable slider that allows you to position the hitch at your desired drop height along the draw bar to ensure proper vehicle and trailer alignment. The hitch is secured using a dual pin key lock assembly and comes with a dust lock cover.
The Weigh Safe Cerakote Black Drop Hitch fits standard 2", 2.5" or 3" receiver hitches on vehicles.
The Weigh Safe Cerakote Black Drop Hitch has the following GTW ratings depending on ball and shank size: 7,500 lbs (1-7/8" ball), 8,000 lbs (2" ball), 12,500 lbs (2-5/16" ball & 2" shank), 18,500 lbs (2-5/16" ball & 2.5" shank), and 21,000 lbs (2-5/16" ball & 3" shank). Never exceed the lower rating between your tow vehicle manufacturer's load limit and the hitch GTW rating.
The maximum tongue weight is 1,500 lbs for the 2" shank and 2,200 lbs for the 2.5" and 3" shanks. Tongue weight should be between 10-15% of the gross trailer weight.
Place the Weigh Safe slider (B) at the desired drop position on the draw bar (C) to ensure that your vehicle and trailer are properly positioned. The slider is adjustable, allowing you to find the correct height alignment for your specific setup.
Once you have positioned the slider at your desired drop height, insert the dual pin key lock assembly (D) into the Weigh Safe slider (B) and turn the key to lock it in place. Pull on the dual pin key lock assembly to ensure it has securely engaged, then place the dust lock cover (E) over the lock.
Yes. The hitch ball pin (A) must be fully inserted into the Weigh Safe slider (B) before operation. Do not operate the hitch without the ball pin in place.
Yes. The dual pin key lock assembly (D) must be securely locked in place before operating the hitch. Pull on the assembly to verify it has engaged properly, and place the dust lock cover (E) over the lock.
Safety chains must be attached between the vehicle and trailer. Do not attach chains directly to the hitch itself.
The hitch fits standard 2", 2.5" or 3" receiver hitches. Check your vehicle's receiver size and ensure your tow capacity meets or exceeds the hitch GTW rating for your ball and shank size.
Never exceed the lower of: your vehicle manufacturer's tow capacity or the hitch GTW rating (7,500–21,000 lbs depending on ball and shank size). Tongue weight must be 10-15% of trailer weight, with a maximum of 1,500 lbs (2" shank) or 2,200 lbs (2.5" & 3" shanks).
1. Insert the hitch ball pin fully into the slider. 2. Position the slider at your desired drop height on the draw bar. 3. Insert and lock the dual pin key lock assembly, then pull to verify engagement. 4. Place the dust lock cover over the lock. Do not operate without the ball pin and lock assembly in place.
Ensure the hitch ball pin is fully inserted, the dual pin key lock assembly is securely locked and engaged, the dust lock cover is in place, and safety chains are attached between vehicle and trailer (not directly to the hitch).
