Yes, the Curt 55532 is designed for Chrysler PT Cruiser passenger cars. The harness connects to the factory taillight connectors on both the driver and passenger sides. Verify your vehicle matches the application before purchasing.
Chrysler PT Cruiser (passenger cars only).
The Curt 55532 is a custom wiring harness that integrates with your vehicle's taillight system to provide trailer lighting control. It includes a converter box that connects to a 4-flat trailer connector. The harness taps into the factory taillight wiring on both sides of the vehicle and routes the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle for convenient trailer connection.
You will need: ratchet, 10mm socket, T-30 Torx bit, flat blade screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, wire stripper, wire crimper, cutting tool, and fishwire. A drill may be needed if a suitable grounding point with an existing screw is not available.
A drill may be required only if a suitable grounding point with an existing screw is not available near the driver-side taillight connector. If you must drill, a 3/32" pilot hole is needed. Check for hidden items before drilling.
The package includes: a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, double-sided tape, a 10-amp fuse, an in-line fuse holder, cable ties, and a 4-flat dust cover.
Remove the T-30 Torx screw securing the driver side taillight assembly. Carefully pull the taillight rearward, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat this process on the passenger side.
Behind each removed taillight, locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate these connectors from the taillight housing carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end (yellow wire on driver side, green wire on passenger side) between the separated connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the driver-side taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Insert a 10-amp fuse into the in-line fuse holder provided with the harness. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum. Do not exceed this rating, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
10-amp maximum. Do not exceed this rating.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. This is only necessary if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame near the driver-side taillight connector.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail/running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
The maximum fuse rating is 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and/or personal injury. Ensure the grounding area is free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the ground wire.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the harness for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
