Fishwiring is a technique used to route fasteners through frame access slots where direct access is not available. For the 14361, you use the included 1/2" fishwire to guide the forward-most carriage bolts into position through the frame rail access slots. The rearward carriage bolts are inserted directly through the bumper beam and frame hole.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. This applies to the hex bolts, hex head cap screws, and flange nuts used in the installation.
1. Raise the hitch into position, aligning holes in the hitch to the correct frame holes (forward hole for short bed, rearward hole for long bed; use the appropriate hole for your Ram model: 1500, 2500, or 3500). 2. Insert hex bolts through side plates and into tow loops, using spacers as needed between hitch and tow loop. Install the outer spacer and flange nut on both sides. 3. Spacers are used to maintain proper alignment and spacing between the hitch side plates and the tow loop attachment points. Round hole spacers (0.188 x 1.50 x 3.00" and 0.188 x 1.50 x 2.00") are installed as needed between the hitch and tow loop when inserting hex bolts. Square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.50 x 3.00" and 0.250 x 2.13 x 2.13") are slid into place through the end of the frame rails to support the carriage bolts.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an interval, so regular visual inspection before towing is recommended.
