In the world of commercial towing, more is expected. A job cannot be completed if the equipment cannot handle the workload. That is why CURT developed the Commercial Duty class 5 trailer hitch. Constructed from steel and engineered for power, these class 5 hitches are designed to complement the towing power of full-size, commercial pickup trucks, including diesels and chassis cabs. They can easily handle a variety of oversize trailers, including toy and car haulers, livestock trailers, dumper trailers, large flatbed trailers, large boat trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular class 5 hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 18,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 2,700 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). All CURT Commercial Duty class 5 hitches feature a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver tube opening to accept the strongest of ball mounts and towing accessories. They are perfect for mounting standard ball mounts, pintle mounts, tow hooks and weight distribution hitches as well as winch mounts and cargo carriers. CURT class 5 tow hitches are protected by a co-curing of liquid A-coat and carbide black powder coat finish. They also mount with grade-8 hardware, included with each hitch.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chrysler Aspen and Pacifica, Dodge Dakota, Durango, Dodge Ram 2500, 1500 Van, 2500 Van, Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee and Liberty and Mitsubishi Raider (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, the Curt 15704 is designed for 03-current Dodge Ram 2500/3500 models without an OEM receiver hitch. Confirm your vehicle does not have a factory-installed receiver hitch before purchasing. If your truck has a factory hitch, you may need to loosen and push it toward the rear to create space for the CURT hitch installation.
Yes, the Curt 15704 fits 03-08 Dodge Ram 1500 models built after November 2002, provided your vehicle does not have an OEM receiver hitch. Vehicles built before November 2002 are not compatible with this hitch.
Yes, the 15704 is designed for both short bed and long bed configurations. Installation differs by bed length: long bed vehicles use the front-most hole on the hitch side plates, while short bed vehicles use the middle hole. The correct spacers and hardware are included for both configurations.
The Curt 15704 has a gross load capacity of 18,000 lbs trailer weight and 2,700 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight carrying hitch. The same capacity applies when used as a weight distribution hitch: 18,000 lbs trailer weight and 2,700 lbs tongue weight. Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The Curt 15704 hitch weighs 60 lbs.
You will need: a socket wrench, a torque wrench, an 8 inch socket extension, and 13/16" and 7/8" sockets. These tools are required to properly install and torque all fasteners to specification.
The kit includes: 2 HHCS 9/16-12 UNC Grade 8 bolts (part 10-10500), 2 pieces of 9/16" fishwire, 2 flat washers 9/16" (part 30-00202), 6 serrated flange nuts 9/16-12 UNC Grade 8 (part 20-00104), 4 carriage bolts 9/16-12 UNC 1-3/4" Grade 8 (part 10-10328), 2 spacers .313 x 2.13 x 2.13" with 9/16" square hole (CM-SP68), 2 spacers .313 x 1.50 x 3.00" with 9/16" square hole (CM-SP74), and 6 spacers .188 x 1.25 x 1.50" with round holes (CM-SP8).
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing holes in the vehicle frame rails and bumper beam. All mounting points align with factory holes.
Professional installation takes approximately 60 minutes. DIY installation for a novice takes approximately 77 minutes.
Fishwire is a flexible wire used to route carriage bolts through tight spaces where a bolt cannot be inserted directly. In this installation, fishwire is used to thread 9/16" carriage bolts through access holes in the frame rails and through the spacers. The fishwire guides the bolt through the hole, then is removed once the bolt is in position. Refer to the FISHWIRE TECHNIQUE diagram on the manual for the specific routing.
The manual does not explicitly state whether bumper removal is required. However, installation steps reference fishwiring bolts through the bumper beam and accessing frame rails, which may require bumper loosening or removal. If your vehicle has a factory hitch, you may need to loosen the hitch and bumper beam and push it toward the rear to create space for the CURT hitch.
For long bed vehicles, use the front-most hole on the hitch side plates for both the front and rear mounting points. Short bed vehicles use the middle hole instead.
For short bed vehicles, use the middle hole on the hitch side plates for both the front and rear mounting points. Long bed vehicles use the front-most hole instead.
The CM-SP74 spacers (.313 x 1.50 x 3.00" with 9/16" square hole) are installed at the front mounting holes. Slide these spacers through the ends of the frame rails and align their holes with the front mounting holes on the hitch side plates.
The CM-SP68 spacers (.313 x 2.13 x 2.13" with 9/16" square hole) are installed at the rear mounting holes. Slide these spacers through the ends of the frame rails and align their holes with the rear mounting holes on the hitch side plates.
The CM-SP8 spacers (.188 x 1.25 x 1.50" with round holes) are installed between the tow loops and hitch side plates. Use enough spacers to prevent the tow loops from pulling into the hitch when the hex bolts are tightened. These spacers maintain proper clearance and alignment.
For 1500 models, use the bottom slot on the hitch side plate when aligning with the vehicle tow loops. 2500/3500 models use the top slot instead.
For 2500/3500 models, use the top slot on the hitch side plate when aligning with the vehicle tow loops. 1500 models use the bottom slot instead.
All 9/16" fasteners on the Curt 15704 are torqued to 150 lb-ft. This includes the carriage bolts installed in steps 4-5 and the hex bolts installed in steps 8-10. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
Do not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. While the Curt 15704 is rated for 18,000 lbs trailer weight and 2,700 lbs tongue weight, your vehicle's manufacturer may specify a lower limit. Always follow the more conservative specification.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the hitch during use to ensure fasteners remain tight and the hitch shows no signs of damage or wear.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended.
Yes, the 15704 fits 03-current Ram 2500/3500 and 03-08 Ram 1500 (built after Nov. 2002) without factory receivers. Confirm your truck has no OEM hitch before purchasing.

Yes. The 55381 custom wiring harness is designed to work only with vehicles equipped with a factory 7-way connector. The harness is inserted between the factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. Vehicles without a factory 7-way connector cannot use this product.
The 55381 is a custom wiring harness that connects between your vehicle's factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. It allows you to use aftermarket trailers and towing equipment with your vehicle's existing electrical system.
The manual does not specify any special tools required. The installation involves locating the factory 7-way connector under the driver side bumper, removing mounting screws or bolts, separating connectors by pressing a red locking tab, and reinstalling components. Standard hand tools for removing fasteners should be sufficient.
The factory 7-way connector is located under the bumper on the driver side of the vehicle, near the taillight wiring harness. The exact location varies by vehicle type: on SUVs, vans and pickup trucks, look behind the driver side taillight housing (location S1 for SUVs/vans, T1 for pickup trucks).
Carefully press the red locking tab on the connector sideways and pull the connectors apart. Take care not to damage the locking tabs during this process. Once separated, ensure the mating surfaces of both connectors are free of dirt and clean if necessary before proceeding.
Insert the custom wiring harness between the separated factory 7-way connector and vehicle wiring harness. Make sure both connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Push the red locking tabs back to their original position to secure the connection.
Reinstall all items you removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion of the connectors.
Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific tow vehicle lamp load rating.
Before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface. However, the standard installation of the 55381 does not require drilling—it is a connector-based installation.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
