In the world of commercial towing, more is expected. A job cannot be completed if the equipment cannot handle the workload. That is why CURT developed the Commercial Duty class 5 trailer hitch. Constructed from steel and engineered for power, these class 5 hitches are designed to complement the towing power of full-size, commercial pickup trucks, including diesels and chassis cabs. They can easily handle a variety of oversize trailers, including toy and car haulers, livestock trailers, dumper trailers, large flatbed trailers, large boat trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular class 5 hitch features a gross trailer weight capacity of 20,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 2,700 lbs. It is designed to be a custom trailer hitch for certain years of the Ram 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). All CURT Commercial Duty class 5 hitches feature a 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" receiver tube opening to accept the strongest of ball mounts and towing accessories. They are perfect for mounting standard ball mounts, pintle mounts, tow hooks and weight distribution hitches as well as winch mounts and cargo carriers. CURT class 5 tow hitches are protected by a co-curing of liquid A-coat and carbide black powder coat finish. They also mount with grade-8 hardware, included with each hitch.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chrysler Aspen and Pacifica, Dodge Dakota, Durango, Dodge Ram 2500, 1500 Van, 2500 Van, Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee and Liberty and Mitsubishi Raider (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, part 15809 fits both long bed and short bed models. The mounting hole alignment differs by bed length: long bed vehicles use the front-most hole on the hitch side plates, while short bed vehicles use the middle hole.
You will need a socket wrench, torque wrench, 8 inch socket extension, 13/16" socket, and 7/8" socket. No drilling is required.
The kit includes: 2× 9/16-12 UNC grade 8 hex carriage bolts (10-10500), 2× 9/16" fishwire, 2× 9/16" flat washers (30-00202), 6× 9/16-12 UNC grade 8 serrated flange nuts (20-00104), 4× 9/16-12 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 carriage bolts (10-10328), 2× .313 × 2.13 × 2.13" spacers with 9/16" square hole (CM-SP68), 2× .313 × 1.50 × 3.00" spacers with 9/16" square hole (CM-SP74), and 6× .188 × 1.25 × 1.50" spacers with round hole (CM-SP8).
Professional installation takes approximately 60 minutes. DIY installation by a novice takes approximately 80 minutes.
Hole alignment depends on vehicle bed length. Long bed vehicles use the front-most hole on the hitch side plates. Short bed vehicles use the middle hole on the hitch side plates.
CM-SP74 spacers (.313 × 1.50 × 3.00" with 9/16" square hole) are slid through the frame rail ends and aligned with the front mounting holes. CM-SP68 spacers (.313 × 2.13 × 2.13" with 9/16" square hole) are slid through the frame rail ends and aligned with the rear mounting holes. Both spacers ensure proper alignment and spacing during installation.
Fishwire is used to thread 9/16" carriage bolts through the access holes in the side of the frame rails and through the spacers. This technique allows the bolts to be inserted and positioned before final tightening. The manual references a fishwire technique diagram for detailed guidance.
Dodge Ram 1500 models use the bottom slot in the hitch side plate when aligning with vehicle tow loops.
Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 models use the top slot in the hitch side plate when aligning with vehicle tow loops.
CM-SP8 spacers (.188 × 1.25 × 1.50" with round hole) are installed between the tow loops and hitch side plates to prevent the tow loops from pulling into the hitch when the hex bolts are tightened. Install enough spacers as needed to maintain proper clearance.
All 9/16" hardware on the Curt 15809 hitch must be torqued to 150 lb-ft. This includes the carriage bolts and hex bolts. Torque the carriage bolts first (Step 7), then torque the remaining 9/16" hardware after installing the hex bolts and spacers (Step 11).
The manual specifies that you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. The manual does not provide the hitch's specific load capacity values, as those fields are blank in the document. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for the complete capacity specifications.
After installation, periodically check that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This maintenance is essential for safe operation.

Yes. The 55381 custom wiring harness is designed to work only with vehicles equipped with a factory 7-way connector. The harness is inserted between the factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. Vehicles without a factory 7-way connector cannot use this product.
The 55381 is a custom wiring harness that connects between your vehicle's factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. It allows you to use aftermarket trailers and towing equipment with your vehicle's existing electrical system.
The manual does not specify any special tools required. The installation involves locating the factory 7-way connector under the driver side bumper, removing mounting screws or bolts, separating connectors by pressing a red locking tab, and reinstalling components. Standard hand tools for removing fasteners should be sufficient.
The factory 7-way connector is located under the bumper on the driver side of the vehicle, near the taillight wiring harness. The exact location varies by vehicle type: on SUVs, vans and pickup trucks, look behind the driver side taillight housing (location S1 for SUVs/vans, T1 for pickup trucks).
Carefully press the red locking tab on the connector sideways and pull the connectors apart. Take care not to damage the locking tabs during this process. Once separated, ensure the mating surfaces of both connectors are free of dirt and clean if necessary before proceeding.
Insert the custom wiring harness between the separated factory 7-way connector and vehicle wiring harness. Make sure both connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Push the red locking tabs back to their original position to secure the connection.
Reinstall all items you removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion of the connectors.
Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific tow vehicle lamp load rating.
Before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface. However, the standard installation of the 55381 does not require drilling—it is a connector-based installation.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
