When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 17,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,550 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Ram 2500 or 3500 and Dodge Ram 1500, 2500 or 3500 (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,550 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chrysler Aspen and Pacifica, Dodge Dakota, Durango, Dodge Ram 2500, 1500 Van, 2500 Van, Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee and Liberty and Mitsubishi Raider (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

| 2003 - 2010 | Dodge Ram 3500 | Fits with or without factory receiver |
Part 15409 fits 2003-current Dodge Ram 2500/3500 models and 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 models built after November 2002. It works with or without an OEM receiver already installed. Fitment depends on bed length: long bed and short bed vehicles use different mounting holes on the hitch side plates.
Yes, part 15409 works with or without an OEM receiver. However, if your vehicle is equipped with a factory hitch, you may need to loosen the hitch/bumper beam and push it toward the rear of the vehicle to create additional space for the Curt hitch during installation.
The hitch weight is 30 lbs.
You will need a socket wrench, torque wrench, 8 inch socket extension, and 13/16" and 7/8" sockets.
The kit includes: 2 HHCS 9/16-12 UNC Grade 8 bolts (part 10-10500), 2 pieces of 9/16" fishwire, 2 flat washers 9/16" (part 30-00202), 6 serrated flange nuts 9/16-12 UNC Grade 8 (part 20-00104), 4 carriage bolts 9/16-12 UNC 1-3/4" Grade 8 (part 10-10328), 2 spacers .313 x 2.13 x 2.13" with 9/16" square hole (part CM-SP68), 2 spacers .313 x 1.50 x 3.00" with 9/16" square hole (part CM-SP74), and 6 spacers .188 x 1.25 x 1.50" with round hole (part CM-SP8).
No, drilling is not required. The manual states "No drilling required."
Raise the hitch into position by aligning the holes in the hitch side plates with the holes in the frame rails. The correct hole alignment depends on your vehicle's bed length: long bed vehicles use the frontmost hole, and short bed vehicles use the middle hole on the hitch side plates.
CM-SP74 spacers (.313 x 1.50 x 3.00" with 9/16" square hole) are slid through the ends of the frame rails and aligned with the front mounting holes. CM-SP68 spacers (.313 x 2.13 x 2.13" with 9/16" square hole) are slid through the ends of the frame rails and aligned with the rear mounting holes. Both spacers help position the hitch correctly on the frame.
Fishwire is used to thread 9/16" carriage bolts through access holes in the side of the frame rails and through the spacers. The fishwire helps guide the bolts through tight spaces during assembly. Two pieces of 9/16" fishwire are included in the kit.
After torquing the carriage bolts to 150 lb-ft, align the slots in the hitch side plates with the slots in the vehicle tow loops. Install 9/16" hex bolts and flat washers through the hitch side plates and tow loops. Install enough CM-SP8 spacers (.188 x 1.25 x 1.50" with round hole) between the tow loops and hitch side plates to prevent the tow loops from pulling into the hitch when the bolts are tightened. Secure with 9/16" hex flange nuts and torque to 150 lb-ft.
Align the slots in the hitch side plates with the slots in the vehicle tow loops. Ram 1500 models use the bottom slot on the hitch side plate. Ram 2500/3500 models use the top slot on the hitch side plate.
All 9/16" hardware on part 15409 is torqued to 150 lb-ft. This includes the carriage bolts connecting the hitch to the frame rails (step 7) and the hex bolts connecting the hitch to the tow loops (step 11).
The manual lists gross load capacity when used as a weight-carrying hitch and when used as a weight-distribution hitch, but the specific trailer weight and tongue weight values are not filled in on this manual. You must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for the specific capacity ratings.
After installation, ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners remain tight and that all structural components are sound during use.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection before towing is recommended.
Part 15409 fits 2003-current Dodge Ram 2500/3500 and 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 1500 models built after November 2002, with or without an OEM receiver.
You need a socket wrench, torque wrench, 8 inch socket extension, and 13/16" and 7/8" sockets.

Part 55381 fits Dodge Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models equipped with a factory 7-way connector. If your vehicle has the factory 7-way connector, this harness is compatible. Vehicles without the factory 7-way connector are not supported by this product.
Yes, part 55381 is compatible with Jeep Grand Cherokee models that have a factory 7-way connector. The harness is designed to work with the factory 7-way connector on this vehicle.
Yes, part 55381 fits Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500 models, as well as Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 models, provided they have a factory 7-way connector.
Yes. The 55381 custom wiring harness is designed to work only with vehicles equipped with a factory 7-way connector. The harness is inserted between the factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. Vehicles without a factory 7-way connector cannot use this product.
The 55381 is a custom wiring harness that connects between your vehicle's factory 7-way connector and the vehicle wiring harness. It allows you to use aftermarket trailers and towing equipment with your vehicle's existing electrical system.
The manual does not specify any special tools required. The installation involves locating the factory 7-way connector under the driver side bumper, removing mounting screws or bolts, separating connectors by pressing a red locking tab, and reinstalling components. Standard hand tools for removing fasteners should be sufficient.
The factory 7-way connector is located under the bumper on the driver side of the vehicle, near the taillight wiring harness. The exact location varies by vehicle type: on SUVs, vans and pickup trucks, look behind the driver side taillight housing (location S1 for SUVs/vans, T1 for pickup trucks).
Carefully press the red locking tab on the connector sideways and pull the connectors apart. Take care not to damage the locking tabs during this process. Once separated, ensure the mating surfaces of both connectors are free of dirt and clean if necessary before proceeding.
Insert the custom wiring harness between the separated factory 7-way connector and vehicle wiring harness. Make sure both connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Push the red locking tabs back to their original position to secure the connection.
Reinstall all items you removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion of the connectors.
Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for your specific tow vehicle lamp load rating.
Before drilling to avoid damage and personal injury, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface. However, the standard installation of the 55381 does not require drilling—it is a connector-based installation.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
The 55381 fits Chrysler Aspen and Pacifica, Dodge Dakota, Durango, Ram 1500/2500/3500, Ram vans, and Sprinter vans, Freightliner Sprinter vans, Jeep Commander, Grand Cherokee, and Liberty, and Mitsubishi Raider—all with factory 7-way connectors. Check your vehicle's documentation to confirm it has a factory 7-way connector.
No. The 55381 is a connector-based installation that requires no drilling, cutting, or permanent modifications. It connects between your factory 7-way connector and vehicle wiring harness.
Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the rating can cause overheating and fire. Check your vehicle owner's manual for the tow vehicle lamp load rating.
Test for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. Ensure all installation steps have been completed.
