The kit includes a custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided screw for grounding, cable ties for securing loose wires, sealant for the grommet, and a 4-flat dust cover.
You need a panel trim removal tool. The manual also references checking your vehicle owner's manual or contacting the vehicle manufacturer for additional information.
The manual does not specify whether the battery must be disconnected. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for this information.
Drilling may be required. Step 7 instructs you to locate an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame for the ground wire, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if no suitable existing screw is available. Before drilling, you must check for miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before drilling.
Yes. In Step 2, you must locate the grommet behind the taillight where the vehicle taillight wiring passes through, remove it, and cut a slit large enough to route the custom wiring harness through. In Step 5, you reseat the grommet using the provided sealant to seal the cut and around all wires.
Route the harness end with the yellow wire through the grommet opening on the driver side and insert it between the separated taillight connectors. Route the harness end with the green wire to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panels and repeat the process. When not in use, roll up and store the 4-flat connector in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use.
You must remove the rear scuff panel and partially remove both the driver and passenger side interior trim panels to access the opening between the back of the taillight and the inside of the vehicle.
Open the rear hatch and remove the two plastic fasteners securing each taillight assembly in place. Remove the taillight assemblies to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
The yellow wire end connects on the driver side between the separated taillight connectors. The green wire end connects on the passenger side between the separated taillight connectors. Both must be fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
The provided sealant is used to seal the slit cut in the grommet and around all wires after routing the custom wiring harness through. This is done in Step 5 after connecting the harness on the driver side, and again in Step 6 after connecting on the passenger side.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. This is done in Step 8 after routing the 4-flat connector.
Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
