Yes, the Curt 56056 is designed for GMC Acadia vehicles in the SUVs, Mini & Full-Sized Vans category. The harness connects to the factory taillight wiring connectors behind each taillight housing.
The Curt 56056 is a custom wiring harness that integrates with your vehicle's taillight wiring to provide trailer lighting connections. It includes a 4-flat connector for trailer use and must be routed to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use.
You will need a ratchet, 7mm socket, and panel trim removal tool. If no suitable existing screw is available for the ground wire, you may need to drill a 3/32" pilot hole, which requires a drill with a 3/32" bit.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required. Contact Curt Manufacturing or your vehicle manufacturer for guidance on this safety step.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the two 7mm bolts securing each taillight. Carefully pull the taillight rearward, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Behind the taillight assembly you will find the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors.
The custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire connects to the driver side taillight. The end with the green wire connects to the passenger side taillight. Insert each end between the separated factory connectors, ensuring the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. If no suitable screw exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
When in use, route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Drilling is required only if no suitable existing screw with nut is available in the vehicle frame near the taillight connector for the ground wire. If drilling is necessary, you will drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The manual states that you must not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Contact Curt Manufacturing for the specific product rating, as it is not listed in the installation manual.
All installation steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the harness for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
