You must remove the exhaust hanger bolts and nuts to allow the hitch and muffler to be raised together into position. Specifically: remove 3 exhaust hanger bolts per side on rear hangers, remove the long bolt from the driver side hanger on the other side of the muffler, and remove 1 nut from each exhaust hanger just forward of the rear axle. The exhaust will rest on a cross brace under the exhaust. The exhaust hanger is removed from its rubber isolator and returned to the customer. The tow loop (both sides) is also removed and returned to the customer.
Raise the hitch and muffler together into position so that the exhaust hanger pegs on the muffler are above the exhaust hanger studs on the hitch. This is critical: if the hitch and muffler are not raised together, the muffler will not be able to be reinstalled with the hitch in place. Loosely install the supplied 8mm and 10mm bolts and washers at this stage.
The rubber isolators must be inverted to allow proper connection between the muffler and the hitch. First, invert the rubber isolators attached to the muffler, then install them over the studs on the hitch. The diagram shows the inverted rubber isolator orientation.
All 8mm fasteners must be torqued to 23 lb-ft.
All 10mm fasteners must be torqued to 45 lb-ft.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
