These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Mazda B2300, B3000, B4000 and Ford Ranger (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chevy Corvette, Ford Focus and Ford Ranger (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. 1. Open the trunk and remove the rear scuff panel by removing its plastic fasteners. Pull back the felt trunk liner on both sides to access the two 10mm nuts holding each taillight. Remove the nuts and carefully pull out each taillight. 2. Locate the black taillight wiring harness connectors behind each taillight and separate them carefully without damaging the locking tabs. 3. Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire from underneath the vehicle to the driver side housing and insert it between the separated connectors, ensuring full insertion with locking tabs in place. 4. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector (existing screw with nut in the frame) or drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided. 5. Repeat step 3 on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire. 6. Route the 4-Flat to the center of the vehicle and secure it in an out-of-the-way location near the hitch using the cable ties provided.
1. Remove the two taillights closest to the center of the vehicle by removing the T10 Torx screws holding each in place. 2. Locate the black taillight wiring harness connectors behind each taillight and separate them carefully without damaging the locking tabs. 3. Route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire across from the passenger side taillight opening to the driver's side taillight opening and insert it between the separated connectors, ensuring full insertion with locking tabs in place. 4. Repeat step 3 on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire. 5. Open the trunk and pull back the felt trunk liner on the passenger side behind the taillight to reveal the rubber grommet. Remove the grommet and make a small slit from the outside to the center using a utility knife. Route the 4-Flat and white ground wire through the slot in the grommet. Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector (existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame near the grommet). 6. Route the 4-Flat out from under the felt trunk liner and out of the trunk when in use. When not in use, roll up and store in an out-of-the-way location in the trunk.
Drilling is not always required. The installation calls for locating a suitable existing grounding point (an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame) near the connector. Only if no suitable grounding point exists should you drill a 3/32" hole and secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
No drilling is required for the Corvette installation. However, you will need to use a utility knife to make a small slit in the rubber grommet that the taillight wires run through, from the outside to the center, to route the 4-Flat and white ground wire through it.
For Ford Focus: a tool to remove plastic fasteners from the rear scuff panel and a 10mm socket or wrench to remove the taillight nuts. A 3/32" drill bit is needed only if you must drill a grounding hole. For Chevrolet Corvette: a T10 Torx screwdriver or bit to remove the taillight screws and a utility knife to slit the rubber grommet. Both vehicles may require a screwdriver to access or install the grounding screw. The manual does not specify whether a torque wrench is required.
The yellow wire is routed to the driver side taillight connector, and the green wire is routed to the passenger side taillight connector. The T-Connector harness has separate ends for each side to allow the trailer wiring to tap into the vehicle's existing taillight circuits.
The white ground wire must be secured to a suitable grounding point near the T-Connector. On Ford Focus, this is located near the driver side connector. On Ford Focus, route the 4-Flat to the center of the vehicle and secure it in an out-of-the-way location near the hitch using the cable ties provided. On Chevrolet Corvette, route the 4-Flat through the slitted rubber grommet in the trunk felt liner, then out from under the felt trunk liner and out of the trunk when in use. When not in use on the Corvette, roll up and store the 4-Flat in an out-of-the-way location in the trunk.
Take care not to damage the locking tabs when separating the taillight wiring harness connectors. The connectors must be fully inserted with locking tabs in place after inserting the T-Connector ends to ensure a secure connection.
The Curt 56014 is designed for Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Focus only. Installation procedures differ between the two vehicles.
