However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

This is a weight-carrying hitch with a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
You will need: a ratchet, 3/4" socket, 3/4" boxed end wrench, torque wrench, and a pry bar. Using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the installation and reduce the time required.
No, no drilling is required for this installation. The hitch uses fishwire hardware to thread through existing access holes in the frame rails.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. You can reach CURT technical support at 877.287.8634.
Only if your vehicle has dual exhaust. For vehicles with dual exhaust, you must lower the exhaust by removing the four rear-most rubber isolators before installation. Wire may be used to hold the exhaust to prevent damage if lowered too far. Refer to the rubber isolator removal diagram in the installation instructions.
Fishwire is used to thread a 1/2" carriage bolt and CM-SP12 spacer into position through the access hole in each frame rail. The fishwire is then threaded through the appropriate mounting holes to raise the hitch into position. Leave fishwires attached to the hardware to prevent loss in the frame. Refer to the fishwire technique diagram in the installation instructions for detailed guidance.
All 1/2" hardware must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
The hitch includes: 2 hex head cap screws (HHCS) 1/2-13 UNC 4-1/2" grade 8 (part 10-10413), 2 round hole spacers 0.188 x 1.50 x 3.00" (CM-SP34), 2 carriage bolts 1/2-13 UNC 1-3/4" grade 8 (part 10-10272), 2 square hole spacers 0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00" (CM-SP12), 4 serrated flange nuts 1/2-13 UNC grade 8 (part 20-00062), and 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire.
The manual states this hitch is designed for use with ballmount #45522. CURT also offers euro mount options #45591 (1 7/8" ball) and #45592 (2" ball) as alternatives. Consult CURT directly at 877.287.8634 or www.curtmfg.com for compatibility with other ball mounts.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task, contact an authorized CURT installer.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer loads.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This regular inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation.

Yes, CURT part 56211 is designed for Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 200 vehicles. The installation accesses the vehicle's wiring harness connectors in the trunk behind the taillights in positions P1 and P2.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. The battery is located on the driver side under the hood. Reconnect it only after all installation steps are complete.
You must remove the rear scuff panel by removing its plastic fasteners, pull back the felt trunk liner on both sides behind the taillights, remove the plastic wing nuts holding the taillights in place, and then remove the taillights by pulling rearward and out. This gives access to the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors.
Separate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors on the driver side behind the taillight, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Remove the grommet that wires run through. Make a small slit in the grommet and route the T-Connector end with the yellow wire through the slit from the trunk to the taillight. Insert the T-Connector end with yellow wires between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Drilling may be required only if a suitable grounding point does not already exist on the vehicle's frame. If you need to create a grounding point, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before drilling, verify that miscellaneous items hidden behind or under surfaces are not present to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if needed. Clean the ground area of rust and dirt. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and screw provided.
Inside the vehicle, locate a flat spot and adhere the black converter box using the double-sided tape provided.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the tow vehicle's lamp load rating or the product rating, whichever is lower.
Signal circuits are limited to 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are limited to 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these limits or the vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Route the 4-flat wire out from behind the felt trunk liner and to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient out-of-the-way location in the trunk.
Secure any loose wires with the cable ties provided.
Reinstall all items removed during installation, including the taillights, plastic wing nuts, felt trunk liner, and rear scuff panel. Then connect the negative battery terminal.
The T-Connector harness includes a yellow wire end for the driver side, a green wire end for the passenger side, and a white ground wire. The converter box has a black power wire that routes from the battery.
The manual does not specify required tools. However, you will need a drill with a 3/32" bit if a suitable grounding point does not already exist on the vehicle frame. Contact CURT technical support at 1-877-287-8634 for a complete tool list.
Yes, the manual references instruction sheet CME-PCL-INS for routing the black power wire from the battery to the converter box. You must review and follow that instruction sheet as part of the installation process.
