Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Honda CR-V (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.

A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Honda CRV (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. 1. Remove underbody panel fasteners and lower panel. 2. Lower exhaust by removing rubber isolators. 3. Mark and trim underbody panel. 4. Enlarge existing frame rail holes. 5. Reverse fishwire carriage bolts and blocks into frame rails. 6. Raise hitch into position (with underbody panel if present). 7. Loosely install tow hook attachment bolt and spacers. 8. Level hitch and install tow loop attachment fasteners and tighten. 9. Loosely install hex flange nuts. 10. Torque fasteners. 11. Reattach underbody panel. 12. Raise exhaust and re-install rubber isolators.
Step 8 requires levelling the hitch and installing tow loop attachment fasteners before tightening other fasteners. This must be done to prevent the receiver tube from angling up when other fasteners are tightened.

No. Step 1 requires you to open the vehicle tailgate and remove all trunk floor coverings to access the rear trim panels and taillight wiring harness connectors.
Open the tailgate and remove trunk floor coverings. Remove the rear scuff panel by pushing in the center of the two push fasteners and pulling the panel out at the bottom then up. On the driver side, remove the cargo loop and two plastic fasteners securing the rear trim panel, then remove the two screws securing the seat release handle. Pull back on the rear trim panel to locate the taillight wiring harness connectors. On some models, you may need to gently pull back the upper trim panel or remove the finish panel behind the driver side rear seat for better access.
Separate the vehicle's taillight housing connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end between the separated connectors. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Install the 10-amp low profile mini fuse into the vehicle's fuse panel in position 10. The fuse panel is located under the dash.
Install the 10-amp fuse provided in the fuse holder and install the fuse holder cap.
When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location.
Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
