However you define adventure -- whether it's climbing onto the back of a mountain bike, hunting from the top of a tree stand or camping with the family a long way from nowhere -- CURT class 1 hitches provide a light-duty towing receiver to help you Bring It. Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Honda HR-V (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Honda HRV (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The 16 - 22 Honda HR-V Curt 1-1/4" Class 1 Trailer Tow Hitch + 5-Flat Wiring Kit Tow Boat/Utility Trailer with Surge Brakes 11416 (Part #5W-CHW-1770) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the CURT 11416 is designed for 2015-Present Honda HR-V Crossover models. It is a weight-carrying hitch with a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs. Always verify your vehicle's manufacturer-recommended towing capacity before towing, as you must never exceed it.
The CURT 11416 has a maximum trailer weight capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
You will need: a ratchet, a torque wrench, an 11/16" socket, safety glasses, and aviation shears. The aviation shears are needed to trim the underbody panel on front-wheel-drive models.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing holes in the frame for installation. The installation uses fishwire hardware technique to secure carriage bolts through existing fore holes in the frame rails.
Two people may be required to ease installation. While one person may be able to complete the installation, having a second person will help with positioning and securing the hitch.
On front-wheel-drive models only, the lower underbody panel may need to be trimmed to install the hitch. The manual includes an underbody trim diagram showing the trim area. Rear-wheel-drive models do not require this modification.
Yes, on front-wheel-drive models, the exhaust heat shield will need to be bent approximately 3/4" to allow the hitch to rest flat against the frame. The manual shows this as a fold-up modification. If needed, fold the heat shield up so the hitch can rest flat on the frame rail.
The first step is to lower the exhaust by removing the two rear-most rubber isolators from the muffler. This provides clearance for the hitch installation and allows you to raise the exhaust back into position after the hitch is secured.
Fishwire is used to thread carriage bolts and spacers through existing holes in the frame rails without removing the frame. On the driver side, fishwire a 7/16-14 x 1 1/4" carriage bolt and CM-SP2 spacer through an existing fore hole. On the passenger side, fishwire a 7/16-14 x 1" carriage bolt and CM-SP2 spacer through an existing fore hole. Leave fishwires attached to prevent loss of hardware inside the frame rail.
The longer carriage bolt (7/16-14 x 1 1/4") must be installed on the driver side. The shorter carriage bolt (7/16-14 x 1") goes on the passenger side. Both bolts are secured with CM-SP2 spacers.
Insert the 7/16" U-bolt (part 10-10444) through the tow loop. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it to the U-bolt and frame rails using 7/16" flange nuts (part 20-00103). Do not fully tighten until all fasteners are in place.
All 7/16" carriage bolts must be torqued to 59 ft-lbs. This applies to both the driver-side 1 1/4" bolt and the passenger-side 1" bolt.
The 7/16" U-bolt must be torqued to 25 ft-lbs.
After torquing all 7/16" carriage bolts to 59 ft-lbs and the 7/16" U-bolt to 25 ft-lbs, raise and secure the exhaust back into position by reinstalling the rubber isolators on the muffler.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing maintenance is important for safe towing and to maintain the product warranty.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this hitch must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
The CURT 11416 is designed for use with ball mount 45521. Euro mount options are also available: 45571 (1 7/8" ball) and 45572 (2" ball).
The hitch includes: 1 U-bolt 7/16-14 UNC (part 10-10444), 2 square hole spacers 0.250 x 0.88 x 2.25" (part CM-SP2), 1 carriage bolt 7/16-14 UNC 1-1/4" (part 10-10281), 2 pieces of 7/16" fishwire (part 7_16 FISHWIRE), 4 serrated flange nuts 7/16-14 UNC (part 20-00103), and 1 carriage bolt 7/16-14 UNC 1" (part 10-10311).
Yes, it fits 2015-Present Honda HR-V Crossover models. Maximum capacity: 2,000 lbs trailer weight, 200 lbs tongue weight. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
No drilling required. The hitch uses existing frame holes and fishwire hardware technique for installation.
On FWD models only: trim the lower underbody panel and bend the exhaust heat shield approximately 3/4". The exhaust must be lowered by removing two rubber isolators, then raised back after installation.
Ratchet, torque wrench, 11/16" socket, safety glasses, and aviation shears (for FWD underbody panel trimming).
Carriage bolts: 59 ft-lbs. U-bolt: 25 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to ensure proper tightness.
2,000 lbs trailer weight, 200 lbs tongue weight. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
All non-trailer loads must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to do so voids the warranty.
Periodically check that all fasteners are tight and structural components are sound. Retorque fasteners if needed to maintain safe operation.
Yes, the Curt 56284 is designed for Honda HR-V vehicles. It is also compatible with SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in the S category.
The harness has two circuit ratings: signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and tail/running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. You must not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
You will need: 8mm socket, 10mm socket, ratchet, panel trim removal tool, Phillips screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, wire stripper, crimping tool, and cutting tool.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step in the installation process.
The yellow wire end connects on the driver side. Insert it between the separated taillight housing connectors after locating the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the side trim panel. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The green wire end connects on the passenger side. Route it under the scuff panel and repeat the same connection process as the driver side: insert it between the separated taillight housing connectors and ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided screw. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw. You must do this on the driver side.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. When in use, route it to the center of the vehicle. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw if a suitable existing screw with nut is not available in the vehicle frame.
Open the vehicle tailgate and remove the two fasteners securing the trunk floor covering, then remove the cover.
Pull out on the bottom of the scuff panel and then pull up. Take care not to damage the locking tabs on the back.
Starting on the driver side, pull back on the side trim panel to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. The connectors will be similar to those on the custom wiring harness. Separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs.
The Curt 56284 is designed for Honda HR-V and SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in the S category.
Drilling may be required if no suitable existing screw with nut is available in the vehicle frame for the ground wire. If drilling is needed, you will drill a 3/32" pilot hole.
A 10-amp maximum fuse is required for the battery connection. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Yes, disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side; tail/running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
