Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Hyundai Accent sedan (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. Fishwire is a technique used to route carriage bolts and spacers through the vehicle frame access holes. For the forward hole on the driver side, fishwire (1) 7/16" carriage bolt and (1) CM-SP2 spacer through the access hole. For each side access hole, reverse fishwire (1) 7/16" carriage bolt and (1) CM-SP2 spacer. The access hole location varies depending on vehicle model. Refer to the installation walkthrough diagrams for the specific technique.
Two types of spacers are used: (3) .250 x .88 x 2.25" square hole spacers (CM-SP2) are used with the 7/16" carriage bolts through the frame rails, and (1) .188 x 1.50 x 3.00" round hole spacer (CM-SP34) is installed with the 3/8" hardware onto the vehicle tow loop.
No. After raising the hitch back into position and installing the carriage bolts and spacers, loosely install the (3) 7/16" hex flange nuts. Do not fully tighten them until step 6, when you torque all 3/8" fasteners to 45 lb-ft and all 7/16" fasteners to 70 lb-ft.

Open the trunk and remove: all trunk floor covers, the rear scuff panel (by pulling up on the top), and the plastic fasteners holding the felt trunk liner in place on both sides. These items are reinstalled after installation.
On the driver's side, pull back the felt trunk liner to locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, then push both connectors fully together until the locking tabs are in place.

Adhere the black converter box to the inside body panel of the vehicle behind the felt trunk liner near the connector using the double-sided tape provided. Choose a flat spot for secure adhesion.
Route the T-Connector end with the green wire across to the passenger side behind the removed scuff panel. Use the cable ties provided to secure wires to an existing wiring harness. The 4-flat connector is routed from under the felt trunk liner to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk when in use.
Roll up and store the 4-flat connector in an out-of-the-way location when not in use.
