The 13-16 Dodge Dart CURT 4-flat Plug and Play Trailer Wiring (Part #CTW688) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
The CURT 56179 is a T-Connector wiring harness with converter module designed for Dodge Dart vehicles. It allows you to connect trailer lighting to your vehicle's existing taillight wiring without cutting or splicing factory wires. The system includes a converter box that processes the signal and a 4-flat connector that routes from the trunk for trailer use.
Yes, the CURT 56179 is designed specifically for Dodge Dart vehicles. The installation accesses the taillight wiring harness connectors located in the trunk behind the felt trunk liner on both driver and passenger sides.
You will need a drill with a 3/32" drill bit (if drilling a new grounding hole), a screwdriver, and cable ties. The kit includes a screw for the ground wire eyelet and double-sided tape for mounting the converter box. A drill may not be necessary if you locate an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame to use as a grounding point.
Open the trunk and remove all trunk floor covers. Remove the rear scuff panel by pulling out on the bottom and up on the top. On both sides of the trunk, remove the plastic fasteners holding the felt trunk liner in place. This provides access to the taillight wiring harness connectors needed for installation.
On the driver's side, pull back the felt trunk liner to locate the vehicle's taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the T-Connector end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Repeat this process on the passenger side using the T-Connector end with the green wire.
Locate a flat spot on the vehicle's frame and adhere the black converter box using the double-sided tape provided. The converter box must be mounted inside the tow vehicle or in a protected area similar to a vehicle interior. Do not mount it in an exposed location, as this can cause loss of warranty, product failure, lamp malfunction, overheating and potential fire.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable point exists, drill a 3/32" hole and secure the eyelet of the white ground wire using the screw provided. Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Drilling is not always required. You should first locate an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame near the taillight connector to use as a grounding point. Only if no suitable existing fastener is available should you drill a 3/32" hole for the ground wire eyelet. Before drilling, verify that no miscellaneous items are hidden behind or under the surface.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum of 10 amps. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Consult your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for information about your specific tow vehicle lamp load rating.
The CURT 56179 has the following maximum amperage ratings: Signal circuits – 3.0 amps per side; Tail/Running Lights – 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the lower of your tow vehicle's lamp load rating or these limits. Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Route the 4-flat connector out from under the felt trunk liner to the center of the vehicle when in use. When not in use, roll it up and store in an out-of-the-way location. Use the provided cable ties to secure any loose wires during installation.
Route the black power wire from the battery as shown on the CME-PCL-INS sheet, which is included with the kit. Refer to that sheet for the specific routing path and connection details for your Dodge Dart.
After completing the installation, reinstall all items you removed during the installation process, including the trunk floor covers, rear scuff panel, and felt trunk liner fasteners. Verify that the 4-flat connector routes properly from the trunk and that all wires are secured with cable ties. Test the trailer lighting connections before towing.
Drilling is optional. You should first try to locate an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame for grounding. Only drill a 3/32" hole if no suitable existing fastener is available.
The battery connection must be fuse protected with a maximum 10 amp fuse. Do not exceed this rating.
Mount the converter box inside the tow vehicle or in a protected area similar to a vehicle interior. Do not mount it in an exposed location, as this can cause product failure, lamp malfunction, overheating and potential fire.
Signal circuits: 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running Lights: 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these limits or your vehicle's lamp load rating.
