Yes, the Curt 56258 is designed for all Lincoln MKZ models, including hybrid versions. The installation procedure differs slightly for hybrid models: the vehicle battery is located in the trunk on the driver side, rather than under the hood. All other installation steps remain the same.
Yes. The Curt 56258 is compatible with all Lincoln MKZ models, including hybrid versions. The only difference is the battery location: hybrid models have the battery in the trunk on the driver side, while non-hybrid models have it under the hood on the driver side.
The Curt 56258 has two amperage ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a panel trim removal tool. Depending on your vehicle's existing ground points, you may also need a drill to create a 3/32" pilot hole for the ground screw. All other fasteners and hardware, including the provided screw, double-sided tape, cable ties and 4-flat dust cover, are included with the harness.
Yes. You must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. On non-hybrid Lincoln MKZ models, the battery is located on the driver side under the hood. On hybrid models, the battery is located on the driver side in the trunk. Reconnect the battery only after all installation steps are complete.
The yellow wire end of the custom wiring harness connects to the driver side taillight connectors, and the green wire end connects to the passenger side taillight connectors. Both are inserted between the separated vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors, located behind the trunk scuff panels. Ensure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
The white ground wire must be secured to a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector. You can use an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole and use the provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Mount the black converter box on a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight using the provided double-sided tape. The area should be clean and dry to ensure the tape adheres properly.
When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties to prevent tangling and damage.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire installation. You will need to locate a suitable grounding point near the taillight connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle's frame. If no suitable existing point is available, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided ground screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed this rating, as exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All installation steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness will function properly.
After installation is complete, reinstall all items removed during the install, including trunk floor coverings, storage trays, scuff panels and trunk liner. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to prevent corrosion. Test the harness for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer.
The kit includes the custom wiring harness with yellow and green wire ends, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal, a provided ground screw, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, cable ties for securing loose wires, and a 4-flat dust cover to prevent corrosion.
