Yes, part number 56412 is designed for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. It is a wiring harness and towing connector system for SUVs, mini and full-sized vans in the S category.
The 56412 includes a custom wiring harness with connectors that mate to the vehicle's factory towing connector, a black converter box, a white ground wire with ring terminal and provided screw, a black power wire with red fuse holder, a 4-flat connector, cable ties for securing loose wires, and a 4-flat dust cover.
Required tools are: ratchet, ratchet extension, 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, side cutter, wire stripper, and crimping tool.
The vehicle towing connector is located behind the driver-side lower trim-panel. It will be taped to the vehicle wiring harness. The connectors will be similar in appearance to those on the custom wiring harness.
Cut the vehicle towing connector free from the wiring harness. Using the custom wiring harness end that mates with the vehicle towing connector, plug the connectors together. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire installation. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, drill a 3/32" hole for the provided screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Drill a 3/32" hole for the provided ground wire screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before installation.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed these product ratings or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Route the black power wire with the red fuse holder down along the back of the driver-side lower trim-panel and out the bottom to the vehicle battery. The manual references a CME-PCL-INS sheet for more detailed routing information. Consult that document or contact Curt Manufacturing for complete routing guidance.
Route the 4-flat down along the side trim-panels and out the bottom. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
All steps must be followed to ensure the wiring harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
Yes. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. This should be done during the final reinstallation step.
