Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Jeep Wrangler JK and JL (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 5,000 lbs. WD and 500 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Jeep Wrangler JL and Jeep Gladiator (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, CURT part number 13392 is designed for 2018-Present Jeep Wrangler SUVs. Before purchasing, verify your vehicle matches this year range and model. The manual recommends checking that your hitch matches your vehicle using the vehicle photo and hitch illustration provided.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 5,000 lbs. trailer weight and 500 lbs. tongue weight. When used as a weight-distribution hitch, the capacity is also 5,000 lbs. trailer weight and 500 lbs. tongue weight. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The hitch weight is 35 lbs.
You will need: a ratchet, 3/4" socket, torque wrench, die grinder, and safety glasses. The die grinder is required because some models may require hole enlargement. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing holes in the bumper beam. However, some models may require hole enlargement, which is done with a die grinder. The manual states "No drilling required" but notes "May require hole enlargement."
Yes, you must detach the muffler from the rubber muffler hanger and lower the exhaust for ease of installation. This is step 1 of the installation process. The manual notes "Lower exhaust" as a required installation step.
The hitch includes: 4× HHCS (hex head cap screws) 1/2-13 UNC, 4-1/2", Grade 8, zinc-plated (part 10-10413); 4× flat washers 1/2" (part 30-00133); and 4× serrated flange nuts 1/2-13 UNC, Grade 8, zinc-plated (part 20-00062). All fasteners are Grade 8 and zinc-plated.
Position the hitch over the bumper beam and align the holes of the hitch with holes in the cross member. If your vehicle has existing bolts attaching a plate with weldnuts, slide the hitch in between the bracket and the mounting tube with the factory hardware reinstalled, securing the hitch.
Insert the fasteners (hex head cap screws, washers, and flange nuts) as shown in the diagram. Make sure the flange nuts are installed on the exterior side of the hitch. Some models may require hole enlargement before fasteners can be inserted.
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to achieve this specification.
The mounting holes are 0.531" (approximately 17/32") in diameter. Some models may require hole enlargement to accommodate the fasteners.
After installation, periodically check that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not a one-time check. Regular inspection helps ensure safe towing.
Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity. Although CURT hitch 13392 has a gross load capacity of 5,000 lbs. trailer weight and 500 lbs. tongue weight, your Jeep Wrangler's manufacturer may specify a lower limit. Always follow the vehicle manufacturer's specifications.
Yes, this product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
CURT Manufacturing warrants this product to be free of defects in material and/or workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. If the product is found to be defective, CURT may repair or replace it at their option when returned prepaid with proof of purchase. Warranty is voided by alteration, misuse, or improper installation.

Yes. Step 1 requires detaching the muffler from the rubber muffler hanger and lowering the exhaust for ease of installation.
Periodically check that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound to ensure safe operation.
Yes, CURT 56407 is designed for Jeep Wrangler. The manual provides specific installation steps for Wrangler (Steps 2A–9A), including taillight access and wiring routing procedures unique to that model.
Yes, CURT 56407 is designed for Jeep Gladiator. The manual provides specific installation steps for Gladiator (Steps 2B–8B), including taillight removal using an 8mm socket and wiring routing procedures unique to that model.
CURT 56407 is a powered converter lead wiring harness system that converts your vehicle's factory taillight wiring to a 4-flat trailer connector. It allows you to connect a trailer with standard 4-flat lighting to your Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator.
Required tools are: ratchet, ratchet extension, wire stripper, wire crimper, Torx bit T-30, cutting tool, flat blade screwdriver, and fish wire. For Gladiator, you also need an 8mm socket. A test light or 4-flat tester is needed to verify function after installation.
The kit includes: custom wiring harness with yellow, green, and black wires; black converter box; white ground wire with ring terminal; provided ground screw; double-sided tape for converter box mounting; cable ties for securing wires; 4-flat connector; 4-flat dust cover; and butt connectors. A 10-amp fuse holder is included and must be installed after all other steps are complete.
Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery and disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery. The negative battery terminal must remain disconnected until you are ready to connect the 12-volt power wire in the final steps.
The installation is rated as Easy. However, you must follow all steps carefully to ensure proper function. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and using proper tools to improve installation quality.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. You must locate a grounding point near the converter box, such as an existing screw or bolt in the vehicle frame. If no existing fastener is available, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free from rust, dirt, and paint (use an abrasive pad or paper to clean it). Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. The fuse holder with 10-amp fuse must be installed after all other steps are complete.
Signal circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Use 12 GA (12-gauge) wire or larger for the power wire running from the vehicle battery to the converter. Route this wire carefully to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect it from sharp edges.
The wiring harness uses the following color code: Yellow = Left turn, Green = Right turn, Red = Brake, Brown = Taillight. The custom wiring harness has a yellow wire end that connects to the factory wiring on the driver side, and a green wire end that routes to the passenger side. The black power wire connects to the vehicle battery positive terminal.
The white ground wire has a ring terminal that must be secured to the vehicle body using either an existing fastener (screw or bolt in the frame) or the provided ground screw. If drilling is necessary, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Before securing, clean the area thoroughly with an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust, dirt, and paint. This ensures a solid ground connection.
On Wrangler: (1) Open the tailgate. (2) On the driver side, locate the small trim access cover on the rear corner and use a flat blade screwdriver to remove it. (3) Locate the plastic fastener securing the taillight and use a T-30 Torx bit to carefully remove it without damaging it. (4) With the taillight loose, pull it straight back. (5) Disconnect the wiring harness by sliding the red housing lock to the rear. Separate the connectors carefully without damaging the locking tabs. Repeat on the passenger side.
On Gladiator: (1) Open the tailgate. (2) Use an 8mm socket to remove the two bolts securing the taillight to the vehicle. (3) Remove the taillight by pulling it straight back. (4) Separate the connectors, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat on the passenger side.
Mount the black converter box on a flat, clean surface that is out of the path of spray and debris from the rear wheels and road. Use the provided double-sided tape to adhere it. Failure to mount the box in a protected area can cause loss of warranty, product failure, overheating, and potential fire. The box must be positioned so you can access the ground wire connection point nearby.
Locate the side of the custom wiring harness with the yellow wire and insert it into the factory wiring harness on the driver side. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with the locking tabs in place. On the passenger side, route the green wire up to the passenger-side taillight harness and insert the custom wiring harness into the factory wiring, again ensuring full insertion with locking tabs in place.
On Wrangler: Route the custom wiring harness end with the green wire and 4-flat down the opening to the rear leaf spring shackle, then above the frame and below the body along the rear bumper towards the passenger side. Mount the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle near the hitch. On Gladiator: Route the green wire and 4-flat down the opening behind the taillight and along the rear bumper towards the passenger side, then mount the 4-flat to the center near the hitch. Secure all loose wires with provided cable ties.
Route the black 12 GA power wire from the converter to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. Connect the ring terminal of the power wire to the positive (+) battery terminal. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect it from sharp edges. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. Install the 10-amp fuse in the fuse holder after all other steps are complete.
After connecting the 12-volt power wire to the harness, verify that the harness is functioning by attaching the battery and testing with a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. This must be done before reinstalling the taillights.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Yes. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion of the connector.
CURT 56407 is designed for use only on 12-volt negative ground systems. Do not use on any other electrical system configuration.
Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower. Refer to your vehicle owner's manual or contact the vehicle manufacturer for specific lamp load rating information.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. This helps maintain proper function and prevent electrical issues.
Yes, CURT 56407 is designed for both Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator. The manual includes separate installation steps for each model.
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation and keep it disconnected until you are ready to connect the power wire in the final steps.
Drilling may be required for the ground wire connection. If no existing fastener is available in the vehicle frame, you must drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Always check for hidden items before drilling.
After connecting the 12-volt power wire to the harness and before reinstalling the taillights, test the harness by attaching the battery and using a test light, 4-flat tester, or a functioning trailer. This confirms that all signal circuits (left turn, right turn, brake, and taillight) are working correctly before completing the installation.
