Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Toyota 4Runner (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 5,000 lbs. GTW and 500 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 6,000 lbs. WD and 600 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.

Yes. You must drill a 1/2" hole in the bottom of both frame rails for the mounting strap attachment (vertical). This is done in step 7 of the installation, using the hole in the mounting strap as a guide.
The kit includes: 4× 1/2-13 UNC 1-3/4" hex cap screws (grade 8, yellow zinc); 6× 1/2-13 UNC 1-1/2" hex cap screws (grade 8, yellow zinc); 2× 1/2-13 UNC 4-1/2" hex cap screws (grade 8, yellow zinc); 2× 1/2-13 UNC 1-3/4" carriage bolts (grade 8, yellow zinc); 14× 1/2-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (grade 8, yellow zinc); 12× 1/2" flat washers (yellow zinc); 4× 1/2" fender washers (chrome); 2× 0.250 × 1.50 × 2.00" square hole spacers; 2× 0.188 × 1.50 × 3.00" round hole spacers; and 2× 0.188 × 1.50 × 2.00" round hole spacers.
Yes. In step 2 (front of vehicle attachment), you must remove the black plastic plug that covers the hole in the outside vertical surface of the frame before installing the 1/2-13 x 4-1/2" hex bolt.
All 1/2-13 fasteners must be torqued to 110 lb.-ft. This applies to all bolts and nuts in the assembly.
Do not tighten fasteners as you install them. Steps 2, 3, and 4 specifically state 'do not tighten at this time' or 'loosely fasten'. Tighten all 1/2-13 fasteners to 110 lb.-ft only after the entire assembly is aligned and installed (step 8).
1. Position side plates on the outside surface of the frame and align with existing holes. 2. Install the front attachment bolt (1/2-13 x 4-1/2") with spacers and fender washers (1987–1989) or round hole spacers (1990–1991), loosely fastened. 3. Install the center attachment bolt (1/2-13 x 1-3/4"), loosely fastened. 4. Install the rear attachment bolt (1/2-13 x 1-3/4"), loosely fastened. 5. Repeat on the opposite side. 6. Align and install the cross tube assembly with 1/2-13 x 1-1/2" bolts. 7. Drill 1/2" holes in the frame rails and install the mounting strap attachment (vertical) with carriage bolts, loosely fastened. 8. Torque all 1/2-13 fasteners to 110 lb.-ft.
For 1987–1989 vehicles: Use fender washers (taped loosely to the inboard surface of the side plate over the two front mounting holes). For 1990–1991 vehicles: Use 1/2 × 1.50 × 2.00" round hole spacers at the front attachment point instead of fender washers.
The horizontal portion of the mounting strap will be located on the bottom of the frame. In step 7, use the hole in the mounting strap as a guide to drill a 1/2" hole in the bottom of both frame rails, then install the carriage bolt through the 1/2 × 1.50 × 2.00" installation spacer, frame, and mounting strap.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify a retorque interval; consult Curt Manufacturing or your dealer for recommended maintenance intervals.
