The 75121 hitch supports two configurations: Weight Distributing hitches rated for 7,500 lb (3,405 kg) gross trailer weight and 750 lb (341 kg) tongue weight; Weight Carrying Ball Mount hitches rated for 5,000 lb (2,270 kg) gross trailer weight and 500 lb (227 kg) tongue weight. Do not exceed the lower of your towing vehicle manufacturer's rating or the hitch rating.
Fastener kit 01130492 includes: two 3/8" washers, two 3/8" conical washers, two 3/8" hex locknuts, two 1/2" conical washers, two 1/2" lock washers, two 1/2" hex nuts, two 1/2" carriage bolts (2.00" length), two blocks, and two pull wires (1/2"-13). The factory bumper support brackets and their bolts and washers are reused during installation.
You will need a 9/16" socket and wrench, and a 3/4" socket and wrench. No drill bits are required. The pull wire is provided with the kit.
The manual requires removal of the two lower bumper support brackets (one per side) and their bolts and washers. These brackets are saved and reused during installation. The manual does not state whether the entire bumper must be removed, only that the lower support brackets must be accessed and removed.
1. Remove the two lower bumper support brackets and save bolts, washers, and brackets. 2. Place left and right side brackets against the frame bottom and install four 1/2" bolts and washers (removed in step 1), leaving them loose. 3. Install two 3/8" bumper bolts, two 3/8" conical washers, and two 3/8" lock nuts from the parts package, leaving lock nuts loose. 4. Screw the pull wire (55392) onto a 1/2" carriage bolt, feed through a bolt plate and the large hole in the outboard side of the frame, pull out the bottom hole, and install two 1/2" conical washers, lock washers, and nuts, leaving nuts loose. 5. Tighten in the exact order specified in the torque section.
The pull wire (55392) is used to align the receiver rearward to the bumper before the frame bolts are fully tightened. It is screwed onto a 1/2" carriage bolt, fed through a bolt plate and the large hole in the outboard side of the frame, and pulled out the bottom hole. The pull wire must be kinked to keep the spacer independent of the bolt.
The two 3/8" lock nuts on the bumper must be torqued to 30 ft·lb (41 N·m). Two 3/8" lock nuts must be used with the two 3/8" bumper bolts; otherwise the receiver could loosen and separate from the vehicle.
The 1/2" nuts and bolts must be torqued to 75 ft·lb (102 N·m). These bolts attach the left and right side brackets to the frame bottom.
Tighten bolts and nuts in the exact order listed in step 5: first torque the two 3/8" lock nuts on the bumper to 30 ft·lb (41 N·m), then torque the 1/2" nuts and bolts to 75 ft·lb (102 N·m). This sequence allows the receiver to be pulled rearward to the bumper before the frame bolts are tightened.
Two 3/8" lock nuts must be used with the two 3/8" bumper bolts. If only one lock nut is used, the receiver could loosen and separate from the vehicle during towing, creating a safety hazard.
