Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Lexus RX350 and RX450h (excludes F Sport; see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 525 lbs. TW. It is also compatible with a weight distribution hitch for level towing and a rating of 4,000 lbs. WD and 525 lbs. WDTW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Toyota Highlander and Lexus RX350 (factory tow package may be required; to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. To ensure long-lasting reliability, all CURT custom wiring connectors are thoroughly tested for optimal functionality. Stress is the last thing you should feel when towing a trailer -- whether you're hauling your RV to that favorite camping destination, your ATVs up to the hunting grounds or your fishing boat to the new hidden hotspot. At CURT, we think your towing equipment should add to the enjoyment of your experience, not detract from it.

The 20 - 21 Lexus RX350 Curt 2", Class 3 Trailer Tow Hitch + 4-flat Wiring Kit 13515 (Part #CHW-2155) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, the Curt 56217 custom wiring connector is designed for Toyota Highlander models from 2008 onwards. Installation procedures differ between 2008–2013 models and 2014+ models, so confirm your model year before beginning installation.
The Curt 56217 has a Signal Circuits rating of 3.0 amps per side and a Tail/Running Circuits rating of 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be protected by a 10-amp maximum fuse. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
You will need a 10mm socket, ratchet, and panel trim removal tool. A 3/32" drill bit is also required if you need to drill a pilot hole for the grounding screw (not needed if an existing screw with nut is available in the vehicle frame).
Yes, you must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. This is the first step for both 2008–2013 and 2014+ model years. Reconnect the battery only after all installation steps are complete.
On 2008–2013 models, the vehicle 10-pin connector is located on the driver side underneath the dash, between the emergency brake pedal and the brake pedal. The connector will be similar in appearance to the 10-pin connector on the custom wiring connector.
On 2008–2013 models, the vehicle 4-pin connector is located on the driver side in the trunk area. You must open the tailgate and remove the access panels, scuff panel, trunk panels and floor trays to access it. The connector surface should be free of rust, dirt and paint before insertion.
On 2014+ models, the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors (both 10-pin and 4-pin) are located on the back of the vehicle under the rear scuff panel. You must remove trunk floor coverings, fold down rear seats, remove the center rear storage tray cover, remove plastic push fasteners along the bottom edge of the third row of seats, and remove the driver side storage cover and tray to access them.
The black converter box is secured using the provided double-sided tape. For 2008–2013 models, locate a flat spot under the dash. For 2014+ models, locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight. Ensure the surface is clean and dry before adhering the tape.
Insert the custom wiring connector ends fully into the vehicle connectors and ensure the locking tabs are in place. The connectors will be similar in appearance to those on the custom wiring connector. Do not force them; they should seat smoothly when properly aligned.
Drilling is not always required. You must locate a suitable grounding point, which can be an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, you may drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
If an existing screw with nut is not available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole for the provided grounding screw. The area should be free of rust, dirt and paint before securing the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
The Curt 56217 requires a 10-amp ATC fuse, which must be inserted into the inline fuse holder. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp maximum. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
The manual does not specify the exact location of the towing fuse. You must consult your vehicle owner's manual for the correct position of the towing fuse before inserting the provided 10-amp short fuse.
When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle. When not in use, roll it up and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties to prevent damage and tangling.
After installation, test the wiring connector for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the connector functions properly. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
The maximum fuse rating is 10 amps. The battery connection must be fuse-protected, 10-amp max. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. This is especially important when drilling the 3/32" pilot hole for the grounding screw.
Open the tailgate and remove the access panels, scuff panel, trunk panels and floor trays on the driver side. Set aside all items. You must also remove the center rear storage tray cover and plastic push fasteners to access the vehicle 4-pin connector.
Open the tailgate and remove all trunk floor coverings and fold down the rear seats. Remove the center rear storage tray cover. Remove the plastic push fasteners along the bottom edge of the third row of seats. On the driver side, remove the side storage cover and tray by pulling upward. Remove the 10mm nut securing the storage tray and remove the tray. The taillight wiring harness connectors are then accessible under the rear scuff panel.
Yes, the Curt 56217 is designed for Toyota Highlander models 2008 and newer. Installation steps differ between 2008–2013 and 2014+ model years.
The Curt 56217 requires a 10-amp ATC fuse in the inline fuse holder and a 10-amp maximum fuse for the battery connection. Do not exceed this rating.
Signal Circuits: 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running Circuits: 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.

The CURT 13515 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 3,500 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 525 lbs. For weight distribution towing, the capacity is 4,000 lbs GTW with 525 lbs tongue weight. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
The CURT 13515 is designed for both hybrid and non-hybrid models, but the installation procedure differs between them. Hybrid models require removal of the underbody panel and lowering of the exhaust; non-hybrid models skip these steps. Refer to the installation steps for your specific model type.
Required tools: ratchet, reciprocating saw or hacksaw, sockets (10mm, 12mm, 17mm, 19mm), socket extension, flathead screwdriver, torque wrench, tape, and marker. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. A tools reference guide is available at curtmfg.com/trailer-hitch-installation.
No drilling is required. The CURT 13515 uses existing vehicle frame weldnuts for mounting. However, trimming of the underbody panel and fascia is required using a reciprocating saw or hacksaw.
For non-hybrid models, a 3" × 3" area of the lower fascia must be trimmed at the center line of the bottom edge using a reciprocating saw or hacksaw. For hybrid models, the underbody panel must be removed and both underbody panels trimmed according to the trim diagram (7-1/2" × 8" and 4" areas). Do not cut on the sensor bracket.
All M12 bolts must be torqued to 79 ft-lbs.
All M8 bolts on hybrid models (used to secure the exhaust bracket) must be torqued to 16 ft-lbs.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation. Use caution when trimming lower fascia and underbody panels. Do not cut on the sensor bracket. After installation, perform periodic inspection to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure.
The CURT 13515 package includes: 1 trailer hitch, 4 hex bolts (M12 × 1.25"), 2 hex nuts (M8 × 1.25"), 2 conical-toothed washers (3/8"), and 4 conical-toothed washers (1/2").
The manual notes that model year 2021 and later vehicles may have sensor bracket tabs that must be removed before installation. For model year 2021 and earlier, this step is not required. Consult the manual or contact CURT product support at 877-287-8634 to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
No. Underbody panel removal is required only for hybrid models. Non-hybrid models skip this step and proceed directly to removing the tie-down bracket. For hybrid models, the underbody panel is secured by 14 fasteners (10mm socket) and one push fastener in the wheel well trim.
The tie-down bracket is located on the passenger side and is secured by two bolts (17mm socket). It must be removed during installation and returned to the vehicle owner. The hitch does not use this bracket.
The vehicle weldnuts are located behind plastic caps on the driver-side frame rail. Remove the two rear-most plastic caps using a flathead screwdriver to gain access to the existing vehicle weldnuts. Clean any debris from the weldnuts using lubricant, compressed air, or a wire brush, taking care not to damage the threads.
Spray lubricant or compressed air into the weldnut hole to remove debris. For heavy debris, use a wire brush. Take care not to damage the threads.
The hitch is secured using the existing vehicle weldnuts on both sides, plus two M12 bolts and 1/2" conical washers on each side. The conical washers must be oriented correctly with the toothed side facing the frame. All M12 hardware must be torqued to 79 ft-lbs.
The conical-toothed washers must be oriented with the toothed side facing the vehicle frame. The manual includes a diagram showing the correct orientation on page 2.
For hybrid models: (1) Remove the underbody panel (14 fasteners, 10mm socket); (2) Remove the tie-down bracket (2 bolts, 17mm socket); (3) Remove plastic caps on driver-side frame rail (flathead screwdriver); (4) Remove sensor bracket tabs if present (model year 2021+); (5) Trim 3" × 3" fascia area; (6) Lower the exhaust (2 M8 bolts, 12mm socket); (7) Raise and secure hitch with weldnuts, M12 bolts, and 1/2" conical washers; (8) Torque M12 hardware to 79 ft-lbs; (9) Raise exhaust and secure with M8 bolts, 3/8" conical washers, and M8 nuts; (10) Torque M8 hardware to 16 ft-lbs; (11) Trim underbody panels; (12) Reinstall underbody panel.
For non-hybrid models: (1) Remove the tie-down bracket (2 bolts, 17mm socket); (2) Remove plastic caps on driver-side frame rail (flathead screwdriver); (3) Trim 3" × 3" fascia area at center line of bottom edge; (4) Raise and secure hitch with weldnuts, M12 bolts, and 1/2" conical washers; (5) Torque M12 hardware to 79 ft-lbs.
Yes. On hybrid models, the exhaust must be lowered by removing two M8 bolts from the bracket on the passenger side (12mm socket) before raising the hitch. After the hitch is secured, the exhaust is raised back into position and secured with the same M8 bolts, 3/8" conical washers, and M8 hex nuts, then torqued to 16 ft-lbs.
Slight bending or modification to the exhaust heat shield may be needed to avoid contact with the hitch. This should be assessed during installation.
Slide the rear part of the panel into place first to ease reinstallation. Secure using all fourteen fasteners that were removed during the initial removal step. Use a 10mm socket.
The hitch uses: 4 hex bolts (M12 × 1.25"), 2 hex nuts (M8 × 1.25"), 2 conical-toothed washers (3/8"), and 4 conical-toothed washers (1/2"). M12 bolts are torqued to 79 ft-lbs; M8 bolts are torqued to 16 ft-lbs (hybrid models only).
Periodic inspection of the trailer hitch should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. To help prevent damage to the product or vehicle, refer to the specified torque specifications when securing hardware.
