This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Volkswagen Beetle, Golf and Golf City (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

Drill one 3/8" hole and one 1/2" hole initially. The 3/8" hole aligns with the second hole forward from the tie-down loop opening on the passenger side plate. The 1/2" hole is drilled using the slot in the passenger side plate as a template. Then drill five more 3/8" holes using the driver side plates as templates.
The handle nut (1/2–13) can be cut off after installation if needed. The manual notes this as an optional step depending on your preference or space constraints.
1. Temporarily remove spare tire and lower exhaust. 2. Lift hitch into position, align the passenger side plate hole with the second hole forward from the tie-down loop opening, drill a 3/8" hole, and loosely install the long 3/8" bolt, fender washer, spacer, and hex flange nut. 3. Drill a 1/2" hole using the passenger side plate slot as a template, and loosely install the 1/2" bolt, conical toothed washer, flat washer, and handle nut. 4. With the hitch square on the vehicle, drill five remaining 3/8" holes using driver side plates as templates, and install short 3/8" bolts, fender washers, and hex flange nuts. 5. Torque all fasteners and apply silicone sealer to trunk pan holes.
Leave all bolts loose during the initial drilling and positioning steps. Only after all holes are drilled and the hitch is square on the vehicle should you tighten the fasteners to their final torque specifications.
All 1/2" hardware should be torqued to 110 lb.-ft.
All 3/8" hardware should be torqued to 45 lb.-ft.
Yes, apply silicone sealer to all holes drilled in the trunk pan after torquing the fasteners. This prevents water intrusion and corrosion.
