This fits: 2005-2008 Mini Cooper Base, Convertible
Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Mini Cooper (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes ball mount #45519, installation hardware, pin & clip

The hitch is designed for use with ball mount D-19 / 45519.
The manual indicates a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
No. This hitch is not intended for use as a weight distributing hitch. It is designed for weight carrying use only.
Yes. This hitch features a removable ball mount. Before towing, the hitch pin and clip must be in place to secure the ball mount to the receiver.
Before towing, the hitch pin and clip must be in place, securing the ball mount to the receiver. You may need to use pliers to install the pin and clip.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by stabilizing straps 18050. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 12" extension, 12mm socket, 8mm socket, offset screwdriver, and flat blade screwdriver.
Yes. The bumper cover must be removed to access the mounting points. The bumper cover is secured by 11 fasteners located in various positions: 4 hex head fasteners in the wheel wells (2 each side), 2 hidden fasteners behind the fender flairs (1 each side), 2 hex head screws at the bottom of the bumper cover (1 each side), 1 fastener under the bumper cover to the right of the exhaust, and 2 fasteners visible when the rear hatch is open.
If your vehicle is equipped with a rear light or rear sensors, you must disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the bumper cover and from the rear light before removing the bumper cover. Make sure all lights and sensors are disconnected before pulling the bumper cover free.
Removing the rear wheels is optional. The manual notes that if needed, you may remove rear wheels to access the 4 hex head fasteners in the wheel wells (2 each side) that secure the bumper cover.
The 8 existing M8 bolts that secure the bumper beam are removed in Step 7 and reused to secure the hitch in Step 10. These bolts are sandwiched between the hitch and the bumper beam. You will also use 3/8" conical toothed washers (8 included) with these bolts.
Three items must be removed and returned to the owner: the divider panel, the hard foam energy absorber, and the 2 plastic nuts that secure the divider panel to the aluminum bumper beam. These are removed in Step 8.
All M8 hardware must be torqued to 23 ft-lbs. This includes the 8 M8 bolts that secure the hitch using the 3/8" conical toothed washers.
The hitch is raised into position by aligning its holes with the weldnuts on the vehicle. The hitch will fit firmly between the spare tire and the rear panel. It is then sandwiched between the bumper beam and the rear of the car and secured with the 8 existing M8 bolts and 3/8" conical toothed washers.
After reconnecting the wiring harness to the bumper beam, keep it clear of the exhaust, heat shield, and hitch receiver. When reinstalling the bumper cover, ensure side markers are re-attached to the wire harness prior to securing the bumper cover.
The receiver tube may interfere with the lip in the center of the bumper cover. If interference occurs, you may need to trim the receiver tube back. Be careful not to cut any piece needed to snap the light or center trim piece into position.
The center rear light or trim piece must be removed when using the hitch. Remove it by suppressing the tabs on both sides behind the bumper cover. You may need to use pliers to access the hitch pin and clip.
Longer safety chains may be required to reach the chains loops. Verify that your safety chains are long enough to clear the lower valance while turning before towing.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This is important for safe operation.
The manual instructs you to periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound, but does not specify an exact interval.
