This fits: 2007-2011 Mini Cooper Hard Top, Except S Model
Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Mini Cooper (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes ball mount #45519, installation hardware, pin & clip

Part number 11160 fits 2007-present MINI Cooper Hard Top with single exhaust and 2009 MINI Cooper Convertible with single exhaust. It does not fit Clubman, S, or John Cooper editions. Verify your vehicle model and exhaust configuration before purchasing.
No. Part number 11160 is not designed for MINI Cooper S editions. It is only compatible with standard MINI Cooper Hard Top (2007-present) and MINI Cooper Convertible (2009-present) models with single exhaust.
The hitch has a gross load capacity of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Always verify your vehicle's towing limits before towing.
The hitch is designed for use with ball mount part number D-19 / 45519.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 12" extension, 13mm socket, 8mm socket, offset screwdriver, and flat blade screwdriver. A Phillips screwdriver and 10mm socket are also required for bumper cover removal steps.
The kit includes eight 3/8" conical toothed washers. The hitch is secured using eight existing M8 bolts that are removed from the bumper beam during installation and reused.
Yes. Bumper cover removal is required. The installation notes specifically state "REMOVE BUMPER COVER" and the first installation step involves removing 11 fasteners that secure the bumper cover.
Possibly. The manual states "If needed you may remove rear wheels to access fasteners" when removing mudflap fasteners. This is optional and depends on your ability to access the fasteners without wheel removal.
The manual does not specify battery disconnection. However, if your vehicle is equipped with rear sensors or rear lights, you will need to disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the bumper cover during removal.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing M8 bolt holes in the bumper beam and weldnuts on the vehicle frame. However, heat shield modification is required, and hard foam energy absorber trimming may be necessary.
If present, yes. The hard foam energy absorber must be removed and trimmed to allow proper fit. The manual provides a trim diagram showing approximately 1.25 inches and 0.69 inches to be trimmed. Some models may have soft foam that does not require trimming. Always confirm fit prior to trimming.
The installation notes state that heat shield modification is required, but the specific procedure is not detailed in the manual. Step 10 notes that the heat shield may need to be formed around the hitch. Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-800-798-0813 for detailed heat shield modification instructions.
All M8 hardware must be torqued to 23 ft-lbs. Use 3/8" conical toothed washers under each bolt head.
No. The bumper beam must be removed to access the mounting points. Step 8 requires removing eight M8 bolts and lowering the bumper beam assembly from the vehicle.
If present, remove the divider panel from the bumper beam and return it to the vehicle owner. The divider panel is not reused with the hitch installation.
Possibly. Step 10 notes that the spare tire may need to be loosened and the plastic tire cradle adjusted to accommodate the tow loops. This depends on your vehicle's spare tire location and configuration.
Keep the wiring harness clear of the exhaust, heat shield, and hitch receiver. Reconnect the wiring harness to the bumper beam by reinstalling the push fasteners that were removed during bumper cover removal.
Non-trailer loads can be applied to this hitch only if they are supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty.
You must verify that your safety chains are long enough to clear the lower valance while turning before towing. Longer safety chains may be required. Check clearance before your first tow.
Remove the rear light or center trim when the hitch is in use to avoid interference and damage.
After installation, verify that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. Periodically check the receiver hitch during ownership to ensure fasteners remain tight and components remain in good condition.
The manual states to periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. Specific intervals are not provided. A reasonable practice is to check before each towing trip and after the first 100 miles of towing.
Yes, if you have a 2007-present MINI Cooper Hard Top or 2009-present MINI Cooper Convertible with single exhaust (excludes Clubman, S, and John Cooper editions). Verify your model before purchasing.
