Whatever the next checkpoint is on your adventure -- whether it's getting your bike on the trail before sunrise or making it to the campground before dark -- CURT class 2 hitches let you Bring It with confidence. These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Buick Lucerne (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes installation hardware

Yes, CURT part 12022 is designed for 2010-present Buick Lucerne sedans in CX, CXL, and CXL Premium trim levels. Verify your vehicle matches these specifications before purchasing.
The CURT 12022 is rated for a maximum of 3,500 lbs trailer weight and 350 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
Non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for information on the 18050 straps.
The CURT 12022 is designed for use with ball mount part number D-20 / 45520 in rise position only. Do not use other ball mounts or position the mount differently.
You will need: ratchet, torque wrench, 10" extension, 15mm socket, 17mm socket, 3/4" socket, and spray lubricant. Safety glasses should be worn at all times during installation.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 12022 uses fishwire hardware through existing access holes in the frame rail.
You will need to lower the exhaust for ease of installation and remove the exhaust hanger bracket from the bottom of the frame rail. The bracket is retained and reinstalled after the hitch is positioned. If your vehicle has dual exhaust, you will remove both exhaust brackets. The exhaust is raised back into position after final torquing. These are temporary modifications, not permanent alterations.
Two people may be required to ease installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance, or call technical support at 877-287-8634.
Torque all 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) to 110 ft-lbs. Torque all M10 hardware (the exhaust bracket bolts) to 45 ft-lbs.
The hitch includes: 2 washers (S-CON, 3/8", part 30-00148); 2 M10x1.5x45mm hex head cap screws (part 10-10414); 4 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts (part 20-00062); 4 square hole spacers 0.250 x 1.00 x 3.00" (part CM-SP6); 4 1/2"-13 UNC x 1-1/4" carriage bolts (part 10-10278); and 2 pieces of 1/2" fishwire (part 1_2 FISHWIRE).
1. Lower the exhaust. 2. Remove the exhaust hanger bracket from the bottom of the frame rail and retain it. 3. Fishwire the 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" carriage bolts and SP6 spacers through the access holes (2 each side). 4. Raise the hitch into position and loosely secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 5. Reinstall the factory exhaust hanger bracket using M10-1.5 x 40mm bolts and 3/8" conical toothed washers into existing weldnuts. 6. Torque all 1/2" hardware to 110 ft-lbs and all M10 hardware to 45 ft-lbs. 7. Raise the exhaust back into position.
Fishwire is a technique for routing fasteners through access holes in the frame rail. The 1/2" fishwire (included with the hitch) is used to thread the 1/2"-13 x 1-1/4" carriage bolts and SP6 spacers through the access holes, 2 each side. Refer to the Fishwire Technique Diagram in the manual for the specific routing method.
On the exhaust side(s), the hitch is sandwiched between the frame rail and the reinstalled exhaust hanger bracket. This is the correct installed position and provides structural support. The exhaust bracket is secured using M10-1.5 x 40mm bolts and 3/8" conical toothed washers into existing weldnuts.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. This maintenance is important for safe operation.
Safety glasses should be worn at all times while installing this product. Read all instructions thoroughly before beginning installation. If you are hesitant to undertake this task, contact an authorized CURT installer or call technical support at 877-287-8634.
