The adapter is designed for Dodge Ram Pickup vehicles equipped with an OEM electric brake control harness connector. The connector is located under the dash, left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. If your vehicle has this 4-pin connector, the adapter will fit. Vehicles without an OEM trailer tow package may require additional fuses and relays (sold separately) to complete the installation.
The 20273-037 is an electric trailer brake control wiring adapter that connects your vehicle's OEM electric brake control system to an aftermarket trailer brake controller. It features a 4-pin connector that mates with your vehicle's electric controller connector and includes male terminals for wiring connections.
No tools are required for installation of the adapter itself. However, you will need butt connectors to attach the adapter wires to the corresponding wires on your electric brake control system. The brake control manufacturer's installation instructions will specify what additional tools may be needed for their specific unit.

The adapter connects four circuits: (1) Vehicle stop lamp switch to brake controller (input), (2) Fused trailer brake controller battery feed, (3) Trailer brake controller (output) to the electric trailer brake, and (4) Ground. The adapter housing contains male terminals on the mating side. You will use butt connectors to attach these wires to the corresponding wires on your electric brake control system.
Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating or a maximum of 4 axles with 8 brakes (24 amps). Overloading the circuit can cause fires. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual and the brake control manufacturer's instructions for additional safety information.

However, vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require additional fuses and relays to complete the output and battery feed circuits. These are sold separately.
