This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima (see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.

Yes. You must remove the rubber exhaust hangers and temporarily lower the exhaust. Be sure to support the exhaust to prevent damage. After hitch installation, you will raise the exhaust back into position.
Yes. You must temporarily remove the heat shield(s) by removing fasteners with a 10 mm socket. After hitch installation, you will reinstall the heat shield(s), leaving the rear-most fastener off. You may have to slot the front hole in the heat shield.
The manual states the underbody panel is present "if present," indicating it is not on all vehicles. If your vehicle has one, you must remove it by removing plastic fasteners and fasteners with a 10 mm socket. After hitch installation, you will trim and reinstall it.
Yes. You must enlarge the forward-most hole on both frame rails to allow 1/2" bolts and spacers to pass through. The manual does not specify the final hole diameter, only that enlargement is required.
If an underbody panel is present, you must trim it according to the trim diagram. The trim dimensions are approximately 5 1/2 inches and 2 3/4 inches on each side. The manual notes that trim dimensions are approximate and recommends checking fit prior to completing the trim. A die grinder is listed as required for this task.
Fishwire is a technique to route bolts and spacers through frame holes. You thread the 1/2" bolts and spacers into position through the enlarged hole and out the rear holes. Then you reverse the bolts and spacers into the enlarged holes on both sides. This allows proper alignment before final tightening.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual notes that using proper tools will greatly improve the quality of the install and reduce the time required.
All 1/2" hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs. Use a torque wrench to achieve this specification.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. When removing and lowering the exhaust, be sure to support it to prevent damage. Be careful not to push hardware into the frame when raising the hitch into position.
All non-trailer loads (wheel-less loads) applied to this hitch must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer loads.
After installation, periodically check that all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not a one-time check.
CURT Manufacturing warrants this product to be free of defects in material and/or workmanship at the time of retail purchase by the original purchaser. If defective, CURT may repair or replace the product at their option when returned prepaid with proof of purchase. Alteration, misuse, or improper installation voids the warranty.
