Connect to your lifestyle with a custom hitch receiver from CURT. All of our custom hitches are designed for a vehicle-specific fit, manufactured with pride, finished for industry-leading rust resistance and tested to rigorous SAE J684 standards for safety. This class 1 trailer hitch and ball mount combination is designed for a custom fit on select years of the Buick Encore and Chevrolet Trax (excluding GX; see application info to verify fitment). The hitch integrates with the vehicle's frame and provides a useful and dependable 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" receiver. The receiver is perfect for attaching the included ball mount and towing a small trailer, or for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted cargo carrier, bike rack or other accessory. This particular class 1 hitch is rated for 2,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 200 pounds tongue weight (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). The ball mount included with this trailer hitch quickly and easily installs into the hitch receiver and has a 3/4" trailer ball hole (trailer ball not included). It can be mounted in the rise or drop position to promote level towing. Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 1 hitch is protected with our co-cured finishing process. It is descaled for a smooth surface, immersed in liquid A-coat for rust resistance inside and out, covered with a durable black powder coat and finally co-cured for an industry-leading rust, chip and UV-resistant shield. No matter where you're headed or which season of the year you’re towing in, this CURT hitch is equipped for long-lasting resilience to the elements. It features an open-back receiver for easy cleaning, and it comes with all the hardware necessary for the installation.
Installation requires hole enlargement, trimming and temporary lowering of exhaust
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)

The hitch is rated for a maximum of 2,000 lbs trailer weight and 200 lbs tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. You must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
CURT 11527 is designed for use with ballmount #45520/D-20, EURO ballmount #45561 (1 7/8" ball), or EURO ballmount #45562 (2" ball). Check your ballmount part number to confirm compatibility.
You will need: safety glasses, die grinder, spray lubricant, ratchet, socket extension, 11/16" socket, 3/4" socket, and torque wrench. A die grinder is required to enlarge frame access holes.
The kit includes: 6 carriage bolts (7/16"-14 x 1 1/4", Grade 8), 6 pieces of 7/16" fishwire, 6 square hole spacers (CM-SP2, .250 x .88 x 2.25"), 6 hex flange nuts (7/16"-14), 4 hex bolts (M12-1.25 x 30mm), 4 conical toothed washers (1/2"), and 4 hex bolts (M12-1.75 x 30mm). Hardware usage varies with application.
Two people may be required to ease installation. The manual recommends reading all instructions thoroughly before beginning and using proper tools to improve installation quality and reduce time required.
Professional installation takes approximately 25 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation takes approximately 30 minutes.
Yes, lowering the exhaust is required for ease of installation. Lower rear exhaust hangers from one location on each side of the vehicle. Alternatively, the exhaust can be lowered at one location at the front center of the vehicle, but this must be lowered slowly and supported from underneath during install. After installation is complete, raise the exhaust hangers back into position.
No drilling is required. However, hole enlargement is required. You must enlarge the existing access holes in the vehicle frame using a die grinder to fit the SP2 spacers provided in the hardware kit. Be sure to avoid vehicle brake lines when cutting the frame material.
On some model years, yes. The wheel well plastic on each side of the vehicle near the frame rails will need to be trimmed to provide a flush fit for the hitch side plates. Be sure to avoid vehicle brake lines when cutting the plastic away. Caulking may also need to be trimmed around side mounting holes if present.
The access holes must be enlarged to fit the SP2 spacers (.250 x .88 x 2.25"). The diagram indicates the enlarged hole diameter is .88". Use a die grinder to enlarge both sides of the frame. Avoid vehicle brake lines when cutting.
Fishwiring is a technique used to route fasteners through frame access holes when direct access is not available. For CURT 11527, you must fishwire 7/16" spacers and 7/16" bolts through the bottom access holes into the vehicle frame, then raise the hitch into position and loosely secure it with 7/16" nuts. If no weldnuts exist in the frame, you must also fishwire hardware for the side mounting points through the frame rail and hitch side plates.
Step 5a applies if no weldnuts exist in the frame: fishwire hardware for the side mounting points through the frame rail and hitch side plates, then secure all 7/16" hardware. Step 5b applies if weldnuts already exist in the frame: secure the hitch with M12 bolts and 1/2" conical washers in the side mounting plates instead of fishwiring.
All 7/16" hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) must be torqued to 70 lb-ft.
All M12 hardware (M12-1.25 x 30mm and M12-1.75 x 30mm bolts with 1/2" conical toothed washers) must be torqued to 86 lb-ft.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. When lowering the exhaust at the front center of the vehicle, it must be lowered slowly and supported from underneath during install. When enlarging frame holes or trimming plastic, be sure to avoid vehicle brake lines. If you are hesitant to undertake this task, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to this product must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. See the CURT catalog or visit www.curtmfg.com for further information on stabilizing straps.
After installation, periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This is an ongoing maintenance requirement, not a one-time check.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended as part of vehicle maintenance.
