A CURT trailer hitch is the key to pursuing your passions, whether you're taking the family boat out for an afternoon on the water or packing up the mountain bikes for a day on the trails. This CURT class 2 hitch is perfect for towing a small trailer, such as a boat trailer, lightweight camper or utility trailer. It can also be used to mount a hitch cargo carrier or bike rack (never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Like all CURT custom hitches, this class 2 trailer hitch is made for a vehicle-specific fit. It is engineered to seamlessly integrate with select years of the Ford Edge (see application info to verify fitment). It is rated for 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. It is also equipped with 1-1/4" x 1-1/4" hitch receiver to accept the included ball mount. The ball mount that comes with this hitch kit has a 3/4" trailer ball hole and can be positioned in the drop or rise orientation for level towing with your specific trailer (trailer ball not included). Like all CURT custom receiver hitches, this class 2 hitch is designed, manufactured, finished and tested with the utmost care. It is engineered for a precise fit, easy installation, maximum towing strength and an integrated look on the vehicle. It is also tested to SAE J684 protocols for safety. This class 2 trailer hitch is finished with our industry-leading dual-coat process for unparalleled rust, chip and UV resistance. It is descaled for a smooth surface, submersed in liquid A-coat for rust prevention inside and out, covered with a highly durable powder coat, and finally co-cured for a dependable shield against the elements. This class 2 hitch comes with a ball mount, hitch pin and mounting hardware for a complete installation.
Trailer hitch weight ratings are limited to vehicle manufacturer's stated capacities
Not compatible for use with vertical hanging bicycles (bike racks that require the bicycles to be hung / mounted vertically)
Includes ball mount #45518, installation hardware, pin & clip

The CURT 12111 is rated for a maximum gross load capacity of 3,500 lbs. trailer weight and 350 lbs. tongue weight when used as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower than the hitch rating.
Yes, the CURT 12111 is designed for 2013-present Ford Escape SUVs. Before purchasing, verify that your specific model year and body style match this application.
Required tools are: torque wrench, ratchet, 10mm socket, 13mm socket, 11/16" socket, 6" extension, die grinder, aviation shears, and safety glasses. Using proper tools will greatly improve installation quality and reduce installation time.
The kit includes: 6× 7/16" fishwire, 6× 7/16-14 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts, 6× CM-SP7 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00"), 6× 7/16-14 hex flange nuts, 4× 5/16" washers, and 4× M8-1.25 x 30 hex head bolts for reattaching the muffler brackets.
Yes. You must temporarily lower the exhaust by removing the 4× 8mm bolts from the muffler brackets and the forward rubber isolator. Return these 8mm bolts to the vehicle owner. The rubber isolator is re-attached after the hitch is fully installed and torqued.
Yes. You must trim the portion of the heat shield covering the mounting areas of the driver and passenger side frame rails. After trimming, re-attach the heat shield to the bottom of the driver side using the original fastener. The trim diagram shows a 1-inch hatched area to be removed.
Yes. You must enlarge the access holes to allow 7/16" carriage bolts to pass through. A die grinder is required for this task. The enlarged holes are used to fishwire the carriage bolts and spacers into position.
Fishwire is a technique to route fasteners through frame rail access holes. You thread 7/16" carriage bolts and CM-SP7 spacers through the enlarged access hole and out the rear-most mounting holes on both sides. Then reverse-fishwire a carriage bolt and spacer back through the enlarged access hole on both sides. Leave the fishwires attached to prevent loss into the frame rails. Push the side fasteners back into the frame rail before raising the hitch into position.
Slide the hitch in from the rear passenger side of the vehicle over the exhaust and into position. Feed the fishwires through the mounting holes while raising the hitch. Once in position, remove the fishwires from the carriage bolts in the bottom of the frame rails and loosely secure the hitch with 7/16" flange nuts. Pull the fishwires through the side mounting holes and loosely secure them with 7/16" flange nuts.
Torque all 7/16" hardware (carriage bolts and flange nuts) to 70 ft-lbs. Torque all M8 hardware (muffler bracket bolts) to 23 ft-lbs. These torque values must be applied after all fasteners are loosely secured and the hitch is in final position.
Re-attach the muffler brackets to the bottom of the hitch into the original mounting holes using the provided M8-1.25 hex bolts and 5/16" washers. Torque these bolts to 23 ft-lbs. This is done after the hitch is loosely secured but before final torquing of the 7/16" hardware.
Safety glasses must be worn at all times while installing this product. If you are hesitant to undertake this task on your own, contact an authorized CURT installer for additional assistance. Two people may be required to ease installation.
All non-trailer loads applied to this hitch must be supported by 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. CURT recommends the use of 18050 stabilizing straps for all non-trailer (wheel-less) loads.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This ongoing inspection helps maintain the integrity and safety of the installation.
The hitch weight is 80 lbs.
The CURT 12111 is designed for use with ball mount 45518. Euro mount options are also available: 45551 (1-7/8") and 45552 (2").
Professional installation time is approximately 80 minutes. Novice (DIY) installation time is approximately 45 minutes. Actual time may vary based on experience and familiarity with the fishwire technique.
