Yes. If you are installing part number 3073 or 3073-P, you must use additional kit 30235-P to ensure compliance with California regulations. Failure to use this kit may result in independent liability for the user.
Vehicles not equipped with an OEM trailer tow package may require additional fuses and relays to complete the output and battery feed circuits. These are sold separately. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual for the locations where fuses and relays should be installed.
No tools are required for installation of the brake control adapter itself.
The electric brake control harness connector is located underneath the dash and to the left of the steering column. It is taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal. You will be looking for a 4-pin connector that mates with the one on the adapter.
First, plug the brake control adapter into the mating receptacle on the backside of the brake control unit itself. Then, plug the adapter into the vehicle's electric brake control harness connector (the 4-pin connector located under the dash). Use butt connectors to attach the adapter wires to the corresponding wires on the electric brake control, following the brake control manufacturer's installation instructions.
Yes. After plugging in the adapter and connecting the wires, you must complete the installation per the electric brake control manufacturer's instructions and mount the unit as directed. You must also perform test procedures as instructed by the brake control manufacturer.
The maximum amperage rating is 24 amps, which corresponds to a maximum of 8 brakes on 4 axles. Do not exceed the lower of your towing manufacturer's rating (as stated in your vehicle owner's manual) or this 24 amp specification. Overloading the circuit can cause fires.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions included with the product before beginning. Read, understand, and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturer's rating or the amperage ratings stated on the product (24 amps maximum).
