The existing bumper mounting bolts must point outboard (toward the outside of the vehicle) with the head of the bolt against the bumper mounting bracket. If the factory bolts point inboard, they must be turned around one at a time so they point outboard and are flush with the outboard side of the frame rails.
1. Remove all nuts from the existing bumper mounting bolts (3 per side) but do not remove the bolts yet. 2. If bolts point inboard, turn them one at a time to point outboard, flush with the outboard side of frame rails. If already pointing outboard, pull them out to be flush with the outboard side. 3. Gain access to the vehicle battery underneath the driver's side floor area. Remove the three screws holding the trim threshold in place. Pull back the floor cover to expose the metal battery cover. Remove the screws and pull off the metal cover to expose the battery.
