Each is made to fit a specific vehicle, providing easier installation, a better fit and optimal towing capacity. Custom class 1 trailer hitches are available for a variety of smaller vehicle types, including the compact car, crossover, minivan and small SUV. This particular class 1 hitch is designed to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Volkswagen Beetle (to verify vehicle compatibility, see the CURT application guide at curtmfg.com). Tested in accordance with SAE J684, it offers a weight carrying capacity of 1,500 lbs. GTW and 150 lbs. TW. It is equipped with 1-1/4" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch mount. This class 1 hitch also comes with all necessary mounting hardware. With its lightweight design and smaller receiver tube size, a class 1 hitch is especially useful for adding cargo space with a hitch-mounted bike rack or cargo carrier. They can also typically be used to tow small trailers such as a utility trailer, kayak trailer or teardrop camper (never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). Though CURT class 1 trailer hitches are only intended for light-duty towing, we apply the same principles of quality as we do to the rest of our rear mount hitches. Each class 1 hitch is made with hands-on engineering, high-strength steel and precise welding. We use a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat, inside and out, and durable black powder coat to provide a lasting defense against rust, chips and UV rays.
CURT custom wiring connectors are the easiest way to outfit your vehicle with a CURT trailer wiring connection. They are built with some of the most advanced technology in the industry, and each one is custom-fitted to work with a specific make and model. Some automotive manufacturers install a special socket on the vehicle to be used for vehicle-to-trailer wiring. Although this special socket is not equipped on every vehicle, a CURT custom wiring connector -- also called a T-connector -- utilizes the socket for simple, stress-free installation. Rather than requiring you to cut, splice and solder into your vehicle's wiring system, the custom wiring connector uses a single OEM-compatible plug and instantly provides a standard, universal vehicle-to-trailer wiring connection, typically in the form a 4-way flat. All CURT custom wiring connectors are made vehicle-specific for the easiest possible installation and the best fit. This particular plug-in connector provides a 4-way flat socket and is designed to be a custom wiring option for certain years of the Hyundai Palisade, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Telluride and Kia Carnival (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary hardware to establish a solid connection. It also comes with a dust cover to keep the connector socket clean when not in use. The CURT 11354 hitch fits 2012-current Volkswagen Beetle Convertible (all trim levels) and Volkswagen Beetle Hatchback with gas turbo engine only. It does not fit naturally aspirated (non-turbo) Beetle Hatchback models. Verify your engine type before purchasing.
The CURT 11354 is rated for a maximum of 1,500 lbs trailer weight and 150 lbs tongue weight as a weight-carrying hitch. However, you must never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower. Check your vehicle's owner manual for the final towing limit.
The CURT 11354 is designed for use with ball mount D-55001 or 45501. Euro mount options are available: part 45571 (1 7/8" ball) and part 45572 (2" ball). Purchase the ball mount separately.
All non-trailer (wheel-less) loads applied to the CURT 11354 must be supported by CURT 18050 stabilizing straps. Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void the product warranty. Do not use the hitch for non-trailer loads without these straps.
Required tools are: ratchet, torque wrench, 18mm socket, 19mm socket, 3/4" socket, and 10" socket extension. Safety glasses must be worn at all times during installation.
No, drilling is not required. The CURT 11354 uses existing factory weldnuts and bolts on the frame rails, so no drilling, cutting, or welding is needed.

1. Remove the existing bolt from both driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and retain it for reuse. 2. Reverse fishwire the 1/2"-13 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP17 spacers into the driver and passenger side frame rails. 3. Raise the hitch into position. 4. Secure the hitch with 1/2"-13 hex flange nuts onto the carriage bolts, then install the factory M12 bolts from step 1 through the hitch and into the existing vehicle weldnuts. 5. Torque all fasteners to specification.
Torque the 1/2"-13 hardware (carriage bolts and hex flange nuts) to 110 lb-ft. Torque the M12-1.50 factory bolts to 83 lb-ft. Use a torque wrench to ensure accuracy.
The kit includes: 2x CM-SP17 spacers (0.250 x 1.25 x 2.50" square hole), 2x 1/2"-13 UNC carriage bolts grade 8 (part 10-10287), 2x 1/2"-13 UNC serrated flange nuts grade 8 (part 20-00062), and 2x 1/2" fishwire. The factory M12 bolts are removed and reused; they are not included in the kit.
Reverse fishwire is a technique where you thread the 1/2"-13 x 1 1/2" carriage bolts and CM-SP17 spacers into the existing factory weldnuts on the frame rails from the reverse (back) side. This allows you to secure the hitch without drilling new holes. The fishwire (flexible wire) helps guide the bolts into the weldnuts.
Periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure all fasteners are tight and all structural components are sound. This is especially important before towing. Retighten fasteners if any looseness is detected.

Yes. Step 1 requires you to locate the vehicle battery on the driver side in the engine compartment and disconnect the negative terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery during installation. Reconnect it in Step 5 after all other work is complete.
The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a maximum of 15 amps. The fuse is provided in the kit and must be installed into the fuse holder in the custom wiring harness during Step 3. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire.
The manual does not provide a specific torque value for the 14mm bolts. It states only that the 14mm nuts on the shroud are push nuts and should be tightened so they do not cause noise. Contact CURT for the exact torque specification.
Signal circuits are rated at 5.0 amps per side. Tail and running circuits are rated at 7.5 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
The wiring harness is installed behind the driver side rear bumper (location S5). The converter box is adhered to a flat spot near the factory harness area using provided double-sided tape. The 4-flat connector is routed along the back of the vehicle to the hitch.
In Step 3, remove the dust cover from the harness without damaging the locking tabs. Insert the custom wiring harness end into the OEM (factory) harness. Make sure the connectors are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Then install the provided fuse into the fuse holder in the custom wiring harness.
In Step 2, locate the plastic shroud below the driver-side rear bumper cover. Remove three push fasteners and two 14mm bolts (which are attached to the shroud). These bolts are push nuts and should be tightened so they do not cause noise when reinstalled.
In Step 4, route the 4-flat connector along the back of the vehicle to the hitch. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties to prevent movement and damage.
The black converter box is part of the CURT 56420 harness assembly. In Step 4, locate a flat spot near the factory harness area and adhere the converter box using the provided double-sided tape. This box converts the vehicle's factory lighting signals to the 4-flat trailer connector format.
Do not lay tools across the positive terminal (typically labeled with red covers or a red '+' symbol). This can cause a ground short, resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. After disconnecting the negative terminal in Step 1, fasten this wire down and away from the battery during the entire installation.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. This will verify that all signal and running circuits are functioning correctly before towing.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
