Tekonsha is a leading manufacturer of electronic trailer brake controllers, pioneering the category in the 1970s. The lineup spans proportional units such as the Prodigy P3 and Prodigy iD, time-delayed controllers, the wireless Prodigy RF, plus vehicle-specific wiring harnesses, adapters and trailer brake components engineered for smooth, predictable stopping at any speed.
Tekonsha Engineering Company began in 1964 building RV steps and mirrors. Within a few years it had found its real calling, and by the 1970s Tekonsha was pioneering the manufacture of electronic trailer brake controllers, the product category that still defines the brand. More than half a century later it remains the reference name in trailer braking and is part of the Horizon Global group alongside Reese, Draw-Tite, Fulton, Bulldog and Wesbar.
A brake controller is the component that tells a trailer's electric brakes how hard to work and when, and getting that right is the difference between a controlled stop and a shove from behind. Tekonsha builds both major types. Proportional controllers use an internal accelerometer to sense how quickly the tow vehicle is slowing and apply trailer braking to match, so light braking stays light and hard braking is immediate. Time-delayed controllers ramp to a preset output over a fixed interval, a simpler and more economical approach that suits occasional towing.
The current brake controller range covers most of that ground. The Prodigy iD pairs with a phone through Tekonsha's EDGE technology for setup and monitoring, the P3 offers storable settings for multiple trailers and a trilingual colour LED display, the Prodigy P2 adds a dimmable display and boost mode for heavier loads, and the Voyager keeps operation simple and dependable. The Prodigy RF mounts to the trailer itself and controls wirelessly, which suits rental fleets and drivers who swap tow vehicles.
Installation is supported by vehicle-specific brake control harnesses that plug into a factory connector rather than requiring cut-and-splice wiring, along with mounting brackets and adapters. Matched controller bundles pair a unit with the correct harness. Products are tested to meet and often exceed published industry standards.

Yes. You must locate the vehicle's battery, disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable before beginning installation. Use a 10 mm socket or wrench to disconnect it. Do not touch the negative battery terminal to the positive battery terminal, as serious injury and damage to the vehicle's electrical system can occur.
Yes. You must drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and #8 screw provided. Do not drill into the vehicle floor or bed. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces.
The product uses a 15-amp fuse. The fuse is installed in the fuse holder provided in the hardware kit and must be fully inserted into the fuse holder. The fuse should have no breaks.
After installation, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. Reconnect the negative battery cable and install the 15-amp fuse into the fuse holder. Reinstall any items removed during installation, being careful not to pinch or cut the wires.
Perform a pre-trip inspection of the 4-way flat harness to ensure no damage to terminals and connection points. Clean the 4-way flat connector after each use. Clean the connection and add dielectric grease (sold separately) to the terminal pins. Ensure the 4-way flat harness does not get pinched in door latches, trailer connection points, or contact the road surface. Cycle all trailer lighting functions and fix or replace as necessary.
The T-One® Connector (part number 118885) is a trailer lighting module that connects your vehicle's electrical system to a trailer's 4-way flat connector. It allows you to control trailer lights (tail, brake, and turn signals) from your vehicle. The module must be installed according to the instructions and all connections must be complete for it to function properly.
Yes, but with an important restriction: if your vehicle is equipped with the Start/Stop option, you must connect the module only to the main vehicle battery. Do NOT connect the module power wire to the support battery. Failure to connect to the vehicle main battery may result in damage to the module.
The installation difficulty is rated as Intermediate. Installation times are listed on Horizon Global's website or found in downloadable application guides. The difficulty level is based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and availability of proper tools and equipment.
Yes. You must lay down both rear seats and remove the retaining clip holding down the foam jack compartment. Be careful not to damage the foam jack compartment and retaining clip. You will also need to remove cargo trays, privacy screen (if equipped), and threshold to access the taillight wiring harness.
Open the rear hatch and remove cargo trays, privacy screen (if equipped), and threshold. Lay down both rear seats and remove the retaining clip holding the foam jack compartment. Starting on the driver's side, remove the lower cargo hook and upper push pins on both driver's and passenger's trim panels. Pull back the side panel to access the taillight wiring harness on both sides.
The T-One® Connector has two ends: one with a yellow wire and one with a green wire. The yellow wire end connects to the driver's side taillight connector, and the green wire end connects to the passenger's side taillight connector. Insert each end between the vehicle and taillight connector, ensuring all connector surfaces are clean and free of dirt, and being careful not to break the locking tabs.
Mount the T-One® Connector Module's black box on the driver's side using the double-sided tape provided. Before mounting, clean the flat mount surface area using a 50-50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water. Locate a suitable grounding point near the black box, such as an existing ground stud, or drill a 3/32" hole to secure the white ground wire using the eyelet and #8 screw provided.
Route the T-One® Connector end with the green wire along the threshold and behind the trim panel to the passenger's side taillight pocket. This allows you to connect the green wire end to the passenger's side taillight connector.
After disconnecting the negative battery cable, attach the ring terminal to the vehicle's positive (+) battery cable. Connect the other end of the fuse holder (which contains the 15-amp fuse) to the black 12 ga. wire using the yellow heat shrinkable butt connector provided. Route the black 12 ga. wire from the front of the vehicle rearward along the frame rail, avoiding hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, and other points that may pinch or break the wire. Connect the other end of the black 12 ga. wire to the black power wire on the T-One® Connector Module's black box using another yellow heat shrinkable butt connector.
Beginning from the front of the vehicle, route the black 12 ga. wire rearward along the frame rail, avoiding any hot pipes, heat shields, fuel tank, or other points that may pinch or break the wire. If routing the wire through a grommet and along the exterior of the vehicle, be careful to avoid the same hazards. Underneath the vehicle on the driver's side, locate the grommet behind the wheel well area in the cargo floor. Slit the grommet and route the black 12 ga. wire up through and into the rear cargo area.
The heat shrinkable butt connectors provided in the hardware kit are yellow. They are used to connect the fuse holder to the black 12 ga. wire and to connect the black 12 ga. wire to the black power wire on the T-One® Connector Module's black box.
Route the 4-way flat harness underneath and to the center of the vehicle. Mount the 4-way flat end in an accessible location with a bracket or electrical box (not included). Ensure the harness does not get pinched in door latches, trailer connection points, or contact the road surface.
Always wear safety glasses during installation. Read and follow all warnings and instructions printed on the tow vehicle's battery. Do not touch the negative battery terminal to the positive battery terminal, as serious injury and damage to the vehicle's electrical system can occur. Never cut into or attach any power wire or device to the high-power orange line, cables, or connectors. Verify what is behind any surface before drilling to avoid damage to the vehicle and personal injury. Do not drill into any exposed surfaces or the vehicle floor or bed.
Do not exceed the lower of the towing manufacturing rating (including in your vehicle owner's manual) or the specific amperage ratings stated on the product. Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed stated product ratings.
After installation is complete, test and verify the installation with a test light or trailer. For the initial test, reset the vehicle electrical system by temporarily removing the key from the ignition. All connections must be complete for the T-One® Connector to function properly. Ensure the 15-amp fuse is fully inserted into the fuse holder and that the negative battery cable is reconnected.
Perform a pre-trip inspection of the 4-way flat harness to ensure no damage to terminals and connection points for proper lighting connection and operation. Verify that all trailer lights are functional. Cycle all trailer lighting functions (tail, brake, and turn signals) and fix or replace any non-functional lights as necessary.
Clean the 4-way flat connector after each use. Clean the connection and add dielectric grease (sold separately) to the terminal pins. This helps maintain proper electrical contact and prevents corrosion.
First, ensure the T-One® Connector ends are fully inserted and locked in place. Remove the module's power fuse for 10 seconds and repeat the test. Check the chassis grounds and ensure ring terminals are in full contact with the vehicle chassis. If the problem persists, remove the module's power fuse again.
Several issues could cause this: (1) Installation may have activated circuit protection—start the vehicle and turn off all functions (tail/headlights, brake, turns), then remove the module power fuse for 10 seconds and repeat the test. (2) Ensure the 15-amp fuse is fully inserted into the fuse holder with no breaks. (3) Verify the fuse holder is connected properly to the positive post of the battery. (4) Ensure the module is connected to B+ (positive). Using a tester or voltmeter, check for voltage on either side of the yellow butt connector near the module. Remove the module power fuse for 10 seconds and repeat the test.
