Whatever your task at hand -- whether it's launching that boat before daybreak, setting up your camper before the rush or getting a final load to the dump before close -- CURT class 3 trailer hitches offer the strength needed for serious towing. They make it easy to hitch up and Bring It, offering a vehicle-specific fit and the weight capacity to handle a variety of trailers. Custom class 3 hitches are the most common type of receiver hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs. Because of their weight range, they are also found on full-size cars, crossovers and minivans. Each custom-fit class 3 hitch package is made for vehicle-specific mounting. This particular kit fits certain years of the Hyundai Kona (see application info to verify vehicle compatibility). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 2,000 lbs. GTW and 200 lbs. TW. CURT class 3 trailer hitches are typically used to attach and haul utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, snowmobile or ATV haulers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest-rated towing component). Each class 3 hitch has a 2" receiver tube and is tested in accordance with SAE J684 for safety. To ensure that CURT class 3 receiver hitches have what it takes for serious trailering, they are designed using a hands-on approach and are constructed with rugged, high-strength steel and precise welding. We also protect our class 3 hitches in a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and black powder coat for superior resistance to rust, chipping and UV damage.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Hyundai Kona (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The manual does not specify which vehicle makes, models, years or configurations this hitch is designed for. Contact CURT product support at 877.287.8634 or visit curtmfg.com to confirm fitment for your specific vehicle.
The CURT 13606 has a gross trailer weight (GTW) capacity of 2,000 lbs and a tongue weight (TW) capacity of 200 lbs. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, as that is the limiting factor.
You will need a ratchet, 17mm socket, torque wrench, and 6-inch socket extension. A 5/8" open-end wrench and pry bar are helpful for exhaust hanger removal if you do not have exhaust hanger removal pliers. Safety glasses are required.
The kit includes six M10 hex bolts and six conical-toothed washers (3/8"). All fasteners are installed into existing vehicle weld nuts on the frame.
Yes. Lowering the exhaust is required. You must remove the two rear-most exhaust hanger rods on both sides from their rubber isolators before raising the hitch into position, then reinstall them after the hitch is bolted down.
Panel trimming may be required, but it is dependent on your vehicle model and trim level. The manual does not specify which vehicles require trimming. Contact CURT product support at 877.287.8634 to confirm whether trimming is needed for your vehicle.
No drilling is mentioned in the installation manual. The hitch uses six existing vehicle weld nuts on the frame for mounting.
Use exhaust hanger removal pliers if available. If not, use a 5/8" open-end wrench and a pry bar: slide the wrench up to the rubber isolator, cradling the hanger rod. Place the flat edge of the pry bar between the wrench and the hanger stop or rod, then rotate the pry bar toward the wrench. Using lubricant or soapy water on the hanger rod and isolator helps removal.
Spray lubricant or compressed air into the weld nut holes to remove debris. For heavy debris, use a wire brush. Take care not to damage the threads.
The conical-toothed washers must be oriented with the teeth facing the vehicle frame. The assembly diagram on page 2 shows the correct orientation.
All six M10 bolts must be torqued to 33.4 ft-lbs using a torque wrench, 17mm socket, and extension if needed.
You may need to gently pull the bumper facia rearward to raise the hitch into position, but this is only if needed. The manual indicates this is conditional based on your vehicle.
1. Lower the exhaust by removing the two rear-most exhaust hanger rods on both sides from their rubber isolators. Support the exhaust with a stand. 2. Raise the hitch over the exhaust on the passenger side first if applicable, gently pull the bumper facia rearward if needed, and install the six M10 bolts and six conical-toothed washers into the vehicle weld nuts. Torque all bolts to 33.4 ft-lbs. 3. Reinstall the exhaust hanger rods.
Wear safety glasses at all times during installation. When lowering the exhaust, use a stand to support it and prevent damage. Never exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity when using the hitch.
Perform a periodic inspection to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight and structural components are secure. The manual does not specify the inspection interval.
The Curt 56535 is a powered converter lead and custom harness system designed for SUVs and Vans. It converts vehicle lighting signals to trailer lighting signals, allowing you to connect a trailer to your vehicle's electrical system. The system includes a converter module, custom harness connectors for taillights, wiring for turn signals and brake lights, and a 4-flat connector for the receiver hitch.
The Curt 56535 is designed for SUVs and Vans with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. Check your vehicle owner's manual to confirm it has a 12-volt negative ground system. The manual does not list specific vehicle models or years, so contact Curt Manufacturing or your dealer to confirm fitment for your exact vehicle.
No. The Curt 56535 is designed only for 12-volt negative ground systems. It cannot be used on 24-volt systems or positive ground systems.
You will need: Phillips screwdriver, wire cutter, worklight, wire stripper, panel trim removal tool, and wire crimper. The manual notes that proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce time required.
The kit includes: a custom harness with connectors for driver and passenger side taillights, yellow wire for left turn signal, green wire for right turn signal, white ground wire with ring terminal, 4-flat connector for the receiver hitch, 4-flat dust cover, converter module, double-sided tape, cable ties, ground screw, and a 10-amp fuse holder with fuse.
Yes. You must disconnect the negative battery terminal before beginning installation. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery during the installation process. Reconnect the negative battery terminal only after all other installation steps are complete.
Rear wheel removal is optional but may ease installation. The manual notes this as a notice in Step 1, suggesting it is recommended but not required.
Locate the push fastener and Phillips head screw in the rear wheel well and remove them so the fender well liner can be pulled out of the way. Then locate the back side of the taillight and separate the connectors, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Pull the taillight housing out to attach the custom harness. Repeat this process on both the driver and passenger sides.
Route the yellow wire from the rear driver-side bumper area up to the driver-side taillight (Step 3). Route the green wire above the bumper along the rear bumper and up to the passenger-side taillight (Step 5). Both wires connect to the custom harness connectors in the taillights.
Orient the custom harness connector into the taillight (this may need to be completed from the rear wheel well area). Install the connector into the taillight and ensure the connectors are connected completely. Then attach the factory wiring to the custom harness. Repeat on both sides.
Locate a mounting spot on the driver-side bumper area for the module. Use the supplied 2-sided tape and/or cable ties to secure it to the vehicle. The module should be mounted before connecting the power wire according to the Powered Converter Lead Instruction Sheet.
Route the 4-flat connector to the receiver hitch and cable tie it in place. Also cable tie the green wire up so that it does not hang down. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
You may need to drill a hole depending on your vehicle. Locate a grounding point such as an existing screw or bolt in the frame of the vehicle. If no suitable existing fastener is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area should be free from rust, dirt, and paint—use an abrasive pad or paper to remove rust and paint. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
If drilling is necessary, the pilot hole size is 3/32 inch. This hole is used to secure the white ground wire with ring terminal using the provided ground screw.
Yellow = Left turn signal; Green = Right turn signal; Red = Brake; Brown = Taillight. The white wire is the ground wire. The black wire from the power lead connects to the positive battery terminal.
The power wire must be 12 gauge (12 GA) or larger. Route this wire to the vehicle battery location, taking care to avoid any pinch points and hot or rotating components.
When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a new grommet, or use silicone to protect the power wire from sharp edges. This prevents damage to the wire insulation.
The maximum fuse rating is 10 amps. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 10-amp max fuse. Exceeding this rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating, and potential fire. Install the fuse after all other installation steps are complete.
Signal circuits (turn signals): 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running circuits: 6.0 amps total. Do not exceed the product rating or the tow vehicle lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
Route the 12 GA power wire to the vehicle battery location. Use a ring terminal for the battery connection. Connect the black wire to the positive battery (+) terminal. The white ground wire with ring terminal attaches to the vehicle body using the provided screw or a 3/32" drilled hole. Disconnect the negative battery cable before wiring the power wire, and reconnect it only after all other steps are complete.
Do not lay tools across the positive battery terminal (typically marked with red covers or a red '+' symbol), as this can cause a ground short resulting in sparks and/or electrical shocks. Do not exceed the product rating or tow vehicle lamp load rating. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be hidden behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury. Route the power wire away from pinch points and hot or rotating components. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using cable ties to prevent damage.
After installation, test for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer. All steps must be followed to ensure the product will function properly. Verify that all connections are secure and that the 4-flat connector is properly seated at the receiver hitch.
Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Check the 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Inspect the grounding point and battery connections for corrosion or looseness.
The Curt 56535 is designed for SUVs and vans with 12-volt negative ground electrical systems. Confirm your vehicle has a 12-volt negative ground system in your owner's manual. Contact Curt or your dealer to verify fitment for your specific vehicle model and year.
Drilling may be required for the ground connection. If no existing screw or bolt is available on the vehicle frame, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. Check for hidden items before drilling to avoid damage.
Use 12 gauge (12 GA) wire or larger for the power connection from the battery to the converter module.
The installation difficulty is rated as Moderate. Difficulty levels are based on time and effort involved and may vary depending on installer expertise, vehicle condition, and proper tools and equipment.
First, test for proper function using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. Check that all connections are secure: verify the custom harness connectors are fully seated in the taillights, the factory wiring is properly attached to the custom harness, the 4-flat connector is fully seated at the receiver hitch, and the power wire is securely connected to the battery with the 10-amp fuse installed. Inspect all wires and connections for visible damage or loose connections. Ensure the negative battery terminal is reconnected.
Verify that the 10-amp fuse is installed in the fuse holder and is not blown. Check that the black power wire is securely connected to the positive battery (+) terminal using a ring terminal. Confirm that the white ground wire is securely attached to the vehicle frame with good electrical contact (clean surface free of rust, dirt, and paint). Ensure the negative battery terminal is reconnected. Check that the power wire is not pinched or damaged and is routed away from hot or rotating components.
