Draw-Tite has designed custom-fit trailer hitches since 1946 and is one of North America's most widely fitted hitch brands. Receiver hitches use solid all-welded construction and low-profile designs that follow modern vehicle contours, install with minimal bumper cutting or drilling, meet or exceed V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards, and carry a limited lifetime warranty.
Draw-Tite has been leading custom-fit trailer hitch design and engineering since its founding in 1946, and it remains one of the most widely fitted hitch brands in North America. The company's stated approach is straightforward: every hitch is tested rigorously so that it performs well beyond published industry standards, a philosophy it markets as Tested Tough. It sits within the Horizon Global towing group alongside Reese, Fulton, Bulldog, Tekonsha, Bargman and Wesbar.
Custom fit is the defining characteristic. Rather than adapting a universal design, Draw-Tite engineers a trailer hitch for a specific make, model and model year, so it bolts to existing frame locations with minimal bumper cutting or drilling. Low-profile designs follow the rear contours and aerodynamic styling of modern vehicles, which matters more than it once did now that rear fascias are shaped and sensor-equipped. Construction is solid all-welded steel for maximum strength, and every hitch meets or exceeds V5 CSA and SAE J684 standards and is backed by a nationwide limited lifetime warranty.
The range spans receiver sizes and classes to suit different loads, from 1-1/4 inch receivers for bike racks, cargo carriers and light trailers up through 2 inch receivers for heavier towing. Front mount hitches add a receiver at the front of the vehicle for winch mounts, snow plows, spare carriers and precise trailer positioning.
The Hidden Hitch series takes concealment further by mounting behind the vehicle's rear fascia, so the vehicle keeps its factory appearance until a removable receiver is fitted. Each is custom designed per make and model for a no-drill installation that does not compromise ground clearance, rated for up to 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. Matching plug-and-play wiring completes the towing system.

The 4454 mounting kit fits Chevrolet/GMC 1500 Short & Long Beds, 1500 HD Short Beds, and 2500LD Short Beds. It is designed to work with three hitch head options: the 9465/9475 Hide-A-Goose, the 6300/630044 Remove-A-Ball, or the 8339 Fold Down gooseneck hitch. Check your truck model and bed length against these specifications. The manual does not confirm compatibility with 2500LD long beds.
Fastener Kit 4454F includes: (4) Carriage Bolt 1/2-13 x 2.25 GR5, (4) Carriage Bolt 1/2-13 x 4.50 GR5, (4) Block 1/4 x 1.00 x 3.00, (4) 5/8" Conical Toothed Washer, (4) 5/8-11 Hex Nut, (4) Lock Washer 1/2, (4) 1/2" Conical Toothed Washer, (4) Flat Washer 1/2, (8) Hex Nut 1/2, (4) Shims 5/16 x 2.00 x 1.00, (4) Block 5/8 x 1.00 x 2.00, and (2) Fishwire 1/2. Additional 5/8" fasteners come from the hitch head fastener kit (9465/9475, 6300/630044, or 8339).
Required tools are: wrenches in 3/4", 15/16", and 13mm sizes; drill bits in 1/4" (some older models require 1/2"); a drill; and a saber saw. An 18mm socket is needed to remove truck bed bolts. A hole saw is used to enlarge the pilot hole to final diameter for the Hide-A-Goose hitch bed opening. A wood or metal shield is required to protect the fuel tank during drilling.
The manual does not specify whether battery disconnection is required before installation.
Yes. For the 9465/9475 Hide-A-Goose hitch, a 1/4" pilot hole must be drilled in the truck bed 44-3/4 inches (short box) or 49-1/2 inches (long box) from the rear, centered between wheel wells, then enlarged with a hole saw to the final diameter specified in the Hide-A-Goose instruction sheet. For 6300/630044 and 8339 gooseneck hitches, 5/8" diameter holes are drilled through the truck bed using the center of the outer slots in the rearward hitch cross member as a template. Additional 1/4" pilot holes are drilled for cutting the bed opening. Some older models may require drilling the frame itself using the hitch bracket hole as a guide.
Yes. For the 9465/9475 Hide-A-Goose hitch, the heat shield on the gas tank must be cut or bent down about 1" to make room for the hitch. The heat shield section between the frame rails and bed (underneath the passenger's side) must be removed or cut out. For 6300/630044 and 8339 gooseneck hitches, the truck bed and bed hat section (on short bed models) must be cut out from underneath using a saber saw. If the vehicle has a bed liner, a section must be cut away so the gooseneck platform can contact the bed corrugations. All cut steel surfaces should be touched up with paint to prevent rusting.
The manual offers two methods for placing cross members between the bed and frame. Method 1 requires loosening the truck bed: remove four bed bolts completely from the driver's side frame and loosen (but do not remove) four bolts on the passenger's side, then prop up the driver's side about 3-1/2". Method 2 avoids bed removal by notching the sheet metal flange from the driver's side wheel well (different notch patterns for 6' and 8' beds). After notching, cut steel surfaces must be touched up with paint to prevent rusting. Choose the method that suits your situation.
Carefully examine the location of fuel lines, brake lines, and electrical wires along the vehicle frame before installation. The brake line cable bracket on the inside of the frame rail must be loosened and the brake line moved down about 1/2" so it does not interfere with hitch cross members. When drilling holes through the truck bed, a wood or metal shield must be placed between the frame and fuel tank to prevent puncturing the fuel tank when the drill breaks through. The wire harness is close to the front rail; add additional protection if required. Be careful when drilling holes, cutting sheet metal, and tightening fasteners to avoid damaging these systems.
For 9465/9475 Hide-A-Goose installation: torque all 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners on the brackets to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N-m) and 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N-m). Torque sequence is: (a) frame brackets to frame, (b) cross members to frame brackets, (c) Hide-A-Goose hitch to cross members. For 6300/630044 and 8339 gooseneck installation: torque 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners attaching brackets to the rearward cross member to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N-m) and 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners attaching brackets to the frame to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N-m). Torque 5/8 x 2.50 GR5 carriage bolts through the hitch and cross members to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N-m). Torque 5/8 hex nuts, lock washers, and flat washers attaching brackets to the forward cross member to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N-m). U-Bolt 5/8" jam nuts are tightened until 3 threads are visible past the bottom of the jam nut.
1. Loosen the brake line cable bracket and move the brake line down 1/2". 2. Remove or cut out the heat shield section between the frame rails and bed (underneath passenger's side). 3. Cut or bend the gas tank heat shield down about 1" to make room for the hitch. 4. Mark and drill a 1/4" pilot hole in the bed 44-3/4" (short box) or 49-1/2" (long box) from the rear, centered between wheel wells; enlarge with a hole saw to final diameter per Hide-A-Goose instructions. 5. Use Method 1 (loosen bed) or Method 2 (notch flange) to place cross members between bed and frame. 6. Slide hitch cross members above both vehicle frame rails and align as shown in the manual. 7. Install blocks and carriage bolts through frame slots, install hitch frame brackets, and loosely install hex nuts on cross member studs. 8. Install frame bracket clamps with carriage bolts through square holes. 9. Loosely install the Hide-A-Goose hitch. 10. Align the hitch ball sleeve with the bed opening and torque all fasteners per specification. 11. If bed was lifted, tighten bed-to-frame bolts.
1. Loosen the brake line cable bracket and move the brake line down 1/2". 2. Remove or cut out the heat shield section between the frame rails and bed (underneath passenger's side). 3. Use Method 1 (loosen bed) or Method 2 (notch flange) to place cross members between bed and frame. 4. Slide hitch cross members above both vehicle frame rails and align. 5. Install blocks and 1/2-13 x 2.25 carriage bolts through frame slots, install hitch frame brackets, and loosely install hex nuts on cross member studs. 6. Install frame bracket clamps with 1/2-13 x 4.50 carriage bolts. 7. Torque rearward cross member and bracket fasteners; leave forward cross member loose. 8. Use center of outer slots in rearward cross member as template to drill 5/8" holes through truck bed (use wood/metal shield to protect fuel tank). 9. Align hitch template with drilled holes, center punch holes for bed opening, and cut out truck bed and bed hat section (short beds) from underneath. 10. Install hitch into opening. 11. Use hitch as guide to drill 5/8" holes for forward cross member and U-Bolt holes. 12. Place U-block shims between hitch and bed and between cross members and bed. 13. Align forward cross member with drilled holes. 14. Install 5/8 x 2.50 GR5 carriage bolts through hitch, shims, and cross members; torque to 150 ft.-lb. 15. Install U-Bolts with washers, springs, and jam nuts (tighten until 3 threads visible). 16. Torque forward cross member bracket fasteners to 150 ft.-lb.
For Hide-A-Goose installation: all fasteners are loosely installed during assembly (steps 7-9), then torqued in sequence after the hitch ball sleeve is aligned with the bed opening (step 10). For 6300/630044 and 8339 installation: the rearward cross member and bracket fasteners are torqued in step 7, but the forward cross member is left loose until step 17. The 5/8" carriage bolts through the hitch and cross members are installed and torqued in step 15. The forward cross member bracket fasteners are finally torqued in step 17.
Before towing, always make sure the ball is fully locked. Check the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains, and other connections for proper operation every time you tow. Keep the ball and ball sleeve (Hide-A-Goose) or ball pocket (6300/630044/8339) well lubricated. Do not exceed the towing vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity under any circumstances. Check for adequate clearance between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the cab and the rear of the truck box before installing the hitch.
Periodically re-torque all the hitch fasteners. Keep the ball and ball sleeve (Hide-A-Goose) or ball pocket (6300/630044/8339) well lubricated. Check the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains, and other connections for proper operation every time you tow. The manual does not specify a retorque interval timing.

The 4454 fits Chevrolet/GMC 1500 Short & Long Beds, 1500 HD Short Beds, and 2500LD Short Beds. It works with 9465/9475 Hide-A-Goose, 6300/630044 Remove-A-Ball, or 8339 Fold Down hitch heads.
You need wrenches (3/4", 15/16", 13mm), drill bits (1/4", some older models 1/2"), a drill, a saber saw, an 18mm socket, and a hole saw. A wood or metal shield is required to protect the fuel tank during drilling.
Yes. For Hide-A-Goose, a 1/4" pilot hole is drilled in the truck bed and enlarged with a hole saw. For 6300/630044 and 8339 hitches, 5/8" holes are drilled through the truck bed using the cross member slots as a template. Some older models may require drilling the frame.
Yes. The gas tank heat shield must be cut or bent down 1". The heat shield between frame rails and bed must be removed. For 6300/630044 and 8339 hitches, the truck bed and bed hat section (short beds) must be cut out. If you have a bed liner, a section must be cut away.
For Hide-A-Goose: torque 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners to 150 ft.-lb. (203 N-m) and 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 ft.-lb. (102 N-m). For 6300/630044 and 8339: torque 5/8-11 GR5 fasteners to 150 ft.-lb. and 1/2-13 GR5 fasteners to 75 ft.-lb.; torque 5/8 x 2.50 GR5 carriage bolts to 150 ft.-lb. U-Bolt jam nuts are tightened until 3 threads are visible.
Always ensure the ball is fully locked. Check the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains, and connections for proper operation every time you tow. Keep the ball and ball sleeve/pocket well lubricated. Do not exceed the vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity.
Periodically re-torque all hitch fasteners. Keep the ball and ball sleeve/pocket well lubricated. Check the ball, hitch coupler, safety chains, and connections for proper operation every time you tow.
The manual states that after loosely installing the hitch and mounting kit, you must carefully align the hitch ball sleeve with the opening cut in the truck bed before torquing fasteners. If alignment is not achieved, loosen the fasteners and reposition the hitch components until the ball sleeve aligns with the bed opening, then retorque all fasteners in the specified sequence.
Loosen the cable bracket that holds the brake line to the inside of the frame rail and move the brake line down about 1/2" so that it is not interfering with the hitch cross members. This step must be completed before installing the cross members.
This indicates that U-block shims (Part Number 5979) were not properly placed between the hitch and the bed and between the cross members and the bottom of the bed. These shims are necessary to prevent the bed corrugations from collapsing when the bolts are tightened. Loosen the bolts, install the shims in the correct locations, and retorque the fasteners.
After notching the sheet metal flange, the cut steel surfaces should be touched up with paint to prevent rusting. If rust has already formed, sand or wire brush the affected area to remove rust, then apply paint to prevent further corrosion.
The Hide-A-Goose is a gooseneck hitch assembly (part numbers 9488/9475) designed for pickup trucks to tow gooseneck trailers. It has a maximum Gross Trailer Weight (GTW) rating of 30,000 lbs (13,620 kg) and a maximum Tongue Weight (TW) rating of 7,500 lbs (3,405 kg). Do not exceed the lower of your towing vehicle manufacturer's rating or the fastener kit rating.
Yes. The Hide-A-Goose is intended to be used with Horizon Global manufactured mounting kits. When installed with these kits, the gooseneck hitch installation instructions are included as part of the mounting kit installation instructions. If Horizon Global mounting kits are not used, the product becomes a general application product, and the installer is responsible for selecting structurally safe materials and locations for attachment.
Yes. On Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 trucks, the 5/8" uneven U-bolt must be installed with the short leg forward on the driver's side. This orientation provides extra room for the fuel tank and related components.
You will need: a 15/16" wrench, a 3/16" drill bit, a 5/8" drill bit, and a 3.5" hole saw. A torque wrench is also required to tighten the 5/8" grade 8 fasteners to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m).
The kit includes: 1 head, 1 uneven 5/8" U-bolt with 2.5" and 3" legs, 4 carriage bolts (5/8"-11 x 2.00 Grade 8), 4 conical toothed washers, 4 conical toothed washers (second set), 4 hex nuts (5/8"-11), 4 lock nuts (5/8"-18), 1 handle, 1 2-5/16" ball, 1 spring clip, 1 vinyl handle, 1 5/8" U-bolt with 3" legs, 4 U-bolt springs, and 1 magnetic cover. A Draw-Tite brand label is also supplied.
Before installation, verify: (1) the hitch ball will be located along the truck's fore/aft centerline; (2) the ball centerline will be above and forward of the rear axle; (3) adequate clearance exists between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle during turning; (4) adequate clearance exists between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab; and (5) the ball position and under-vehicle supports do not interfere with cross members, brake lines, electrical wiring, cables, fuel lines, or vents.
1. Mark the hitch ball center on the truck bed. 2. Center punch and drill a 3/16" pilot hole, then recheck clearances. 3. Enlarge the pilot hole with a 3.5" hole saw and file edges as needed. 4. Lift the head into position. 5. Use 5/8" conical toothed washers and hex nuts to install the head, but do not tighten completely at this time. 6. Align the ball sleeve on the head with the 3.5" hole in the bed and tighten the 5/8" fasteners.
1. Using the U-bolt slots as a guide, drill four 5/8" holes in the truck bed. These holes must be in lower bed corrugations to limit the amount of U-bolt showing above the bed. 2. Touch up the drilled holes with paint. 3. Install the U-bolts from the inside of the bed. 4. From under the truck, install the conical toothed washers, U-bolt springs, and 5/8" lock nuts. 5. Before tightening the lock nuts, lift the U-bolts up and down to ensure smooth operation; if not smooth, enlarge the holes as necessary. 6. Tighten the nuts so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts.
Yes. Drilling is required in three locations: (1) a 3/16" pilot hole at the marked hitch ball center, enlarged to 3.5" with a hole saw; (2) four 5/8" holes in the truck bed for the U-bolts, positioned in lower bed corrugations. Do not cut holes with a torch. File edges of the 3.5" hole as needed and touch up all drilled holes with paint.
All 5/8" grade 8 fasteners (excluding U-bolt fasteners) must be tightened with a torque wrench to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m). For U-bolt lock nuts, tighten them so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts. Check bolt torque monthly after installation.
If not installing the head on a Horizon Global manufactured mounting kit, you must secure the hitch to your mounting system using four holes in the front and back of the hitch and four 5/8" grade 8 bolts (not provided). This is in addition to the four vertical bolts provided in the kit and will allow you to obtain the maximum head rating of 30,000 lbs GTW / 7,500 lbs TW.
Connect the trailer following the coupler manufacturer's operating instructions, ensuring about 6" of clearance between the bottom of the trailer nose and the top of the pickup bed sides. Slowly back the trailer to a jackknifed position while checking for adequate clearance between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle, and between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab. Slowly jackknife the truck and trailer in the opposite direction and check clearances to the end of the truck and the cab.
Check for clearance between the ball in its stored position and truck equipment (differential, brake lines, electrical lines, etc.) by measuring from the axle up to the rubber bumper stop and from the ball to the nearest item. If insufficient space is present, do not store the ball in the head when carrying heavy loads. The axle-to-rubber-bumper-stop distance should be less than the ball-to-nearest-item distance.
Use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly free of dirt and debris. Lubricate the hitch ball monthly or as needed with heavy grease. Lubricate the ball tube with heavy grease when the ball is installed and/or removed. Lubricate the locking pin monthly or as needed with spray-on penetrating oil. Check bolt torque monthly. Check all equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts and replace them immediately.
Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a torch. If the hitch is removed, plug all holes in the trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A hitch or ball that has been damaged should be removed and replaced immediately.
After installation, check the hitch frequently to ensure all fasteners and the ball are properly tightened. Before towing, verify clearances between the gooseneck trailer and the rear of the vehicle, and between the forward corners of the trailer and the cab, by slowly jackknifing the trailer in both directions. Check equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts.
The Hide-A-Goose is designed for pickup trucks with gooseneck trailers. Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 trucks require the U-bolt short leg forward on the driver's side. Verify clearance between the trailer and the rear of your vehicle and between the trailer corners and your cab before installation. Consult the mounting kit instructions or the manufacturer for specific vehicle compatibility.
You need a 15/16" wrench, 3/16" and 5/8" drill bits, a 3.5" hole saw, and a torque wrench. Drilling is required for the head (3.5" hole) and four U-bolt mounting holes (5/8" each).
Tighten all 5/8" grade 8 fasteners (excluding U-bolt fasteners) to 210 lb.-ft. (285 N·m) with a torque wrench. For U-bolt lock nuts, tighten until a minimum of 3 threads show past the nuts. Check torque monthly.
Verify the ball will be on the truck's centerline and above/forward of the rear axle. Confirm adequate clearance between the trailer and the rear of the vehicle during turning, and between the trailer corners and the cab. Ensure the ball position and supports do not interfere with cross members, brake lines, electrical wiring, fuel lines, or vents.
Connect the trailer with about 6" clearance between the trailer nose and the pickup bed. Slowly jackknife the trailer in both directions to verify adequate clearance between the trailer and the rear of the vehicle and between the trailer corners and the cab. Check all equipment for worn or damaged parts.
Lubricate the ball and locking pin monthly or as needed. Check bolt torque monthly. Use the magnetic cover to keep the assembly clean. Check all equipment before towing for worn or damaged parts and replace immediately.
If the U-bolts do not move smoothly during the test lift before final tightening, enlarge the four 5/8" holes in the truck bed as necessary. Once smooth operation is confirmed, proceed to tighten the lock nuts so a minimum of 3 threads are showing past the nuts.
