These receiver hitches are made to handle most light-duty towing applications and offer a custom fit for your vehicle. Typically used on full-size cars, crossovers, compact SUVs, minivans or even compact pickup trucks, a CURT class 2 trailer hitch complements the design of smaller vehicles. This particular class 2 hitch is made to be a custom hitch for certain years of the Buick Centurion, Electra, LeSabre or Roadmaster, Chevy Caprice, Oldsmobile 98 or Delta 88 and Pontiac Parisienne (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It offers a weight carrying capacity of 3,500 lbs. GTW and 350 lbs. TW. Class 2 trailer hitches can typically be used to tow a variety of lightweight trailers, such as a small utility trailer, small fishing boat trailer or popup camper (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). They are also perfect for adding cargo space to your vehicle with a bike rack or cargo carrier. This class 2 hitch features a 1-1/4" receiver tube to accept a ball mount shank or other hitch-mounted accessory. For safety, it is tested in accordance with SAE J684. A custom trailer hitch design requires extra care, and as such, CURT class 2 hitches are engineered using real vehicles and hands-on research. We use high-strength steel, robotic welding and rigorous testing to produce hitches that are built to fit your lifestyle. To ensure that each hitch will be a reliable extension of your vehicle, we also finish our hitches in a co-curing of liquid A-coat and black powder coat, giving them long-lasting rust and wear resistance.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Dodge Hornet (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. 1) Remove 4 bolts from bumper shock mounts. 2) Raise hitch into position and install bolts and fasteners to bumper shock mounts. 3) Drill holes as needed for U-bolts and install U-bolts. 4) Torque U-bolt fasteners to 26 lb-ft and remaining hardware to 37 lb-ft.
U-bolt fasteners must be torqued to 26 lb-ft.

You will need: ratchet, wire cutter, Torx T-27 socket, wire stripper, small flathead screwdriver, panel trim removal tool, fish wire (or stiff wire, rope or string), and crimp tool. Proper tools will improve installation quality and reduce installation time.

The first step is to locate your vehicle battery by consulting your vehicle owner's manual, then disconnect the negative battery terminal. Fasten this wire down and away from the battery to keep it secure during the installation process.
Open the vehicle hatch. Using a small flathead screwdriver, open the taillight fastener covers. Use a Torx T-27 socket to remove the two fasteners from both taillights. Remove each taillight by pulling straight back from the taillight cavity. Once removed, flip the light over and separate the connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Set the taillights aside.
Fish wire is a tool used to push or pull an electrical wire through a blind hole (a cavity where you cannot see the other end). To use it: insert the fish wire through the blind hole until it sticks out the other side, then use tape to secure the harness to the fish wire and pull back up. If the fish wire gets hung up, you may need to push back down, wiggle it around, or twist the wire to loosen it. Fish wire can be made from a cut-up wire hanger, stiff wire, rope or string depending on what is needed.
Starting on the driver side, use fish wire to run it down the cavity until the end is located. Attach the side of the harness with the yellow wire to the fish wire and carefully pull up, then attach to the factory side of the harness. Route the green wire over to the passenger side, securing with cable ties as needed. Repeat the fish wire process on the passenger side with the green wire. Attach the taillights to the custom harness and set in place.
On the driver side, locate a flat spot up in the bumper cover. Adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape and/or cable tie.
Route the black 12 GA power wire (or larger) from the vehicle battery to the converter, following the 'Powered Converter Lead Instruction Sheet' on the last page of the manual. The wire must be routed to avoid pinch points and hot or rotating components. When passing the power wire through sheet metal, use an existing grommet, add a grommet, or use silicone to protect the wire from sharp edges. Secure the power wire to the vehicle chassis using the provided cable ties. Connect the black wire to the positive (+) battery terminal using a ring terminal. Install the fuse holder with 15-amp fuse (maximum) after all other steps are complete.
Attach the ring terminal of the white ground wire to the vehicle body using the screw provided. If necessary, drill a 3/32" hole to mount the ground wire. This completes the grounding connection for the converter system.
Route the 4-flat connector to the center of the vehicle next to the hitch. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion.
Drilling may be required only for the ground wire connection. You may need to drill a 3/32" hole in the vehicle body to mount the white ground wire ring terminal using the provided screw. Before drilling, check for miscellaneous items that may be behind or under the surface to avoid personal injury or property damage. No other drilling is required for the basic installation.
Signal circuits (left turn and right turn): 3.0 amps per side. Tail/Running circuits: 6.0 amps total. The battery connection must be fuse-protected with a 15-amp maximum fuse. Two Torx T-27 fasteners are used on each taillight. Use a Torx T-27 socket with a ratchet to remove them.
