When we came to the limits of towing capacity, we wanted to know what else was out there. What could we discover off the beaten path? So, we kept going. CURT class 5 Xtra Duty hitches begin a class of their own, beyond class 4 and beyond anything the standards dictate. They are designed for the hard road where only full-size pickup trucks, vans and SUVs dare to tread. They are capable of pulling almost any heavy-duty trailer, including toy haulers, dump trailers, logging trailers, small yacht trailers and more (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). This particular Xtra Duty class 5 trailer hitch offers a gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs. and an extra-high tongue weight capacity of 2,400 lbs. It features a 2" x 2" receiver tube opening to accept a ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier or winch mount. It is designed to be a custom-fit trailer hitch for certain years of the Chevy C1500, C2500, C3500, C3500HD, K1500, K2500 or K3500 and GMC C1500, C2500, C3500, K1500, K2500 or K3500 (to verify compatibility with your vehicle, see application info). For a little extra towing power and stability, this class 5 hitch can also be used in combination with a weight distributing hitch. It is rated for 17,000 lbs. WD and 2,400 lbs. WDTW. In our drive to create a more powerful hitch, CURT has not neglected the finer details. Our class 5 trailer hitches are welded with precision and go through multiple stages of cleaning to create a smooth surface that is ready to accept our co-cured finish. To protect them from corrosion, chipping and UV damage, these hitches are immersed in a liquid A-coat and then finished in a high-quality black carbide powder coat. They come with grade-8 mounting hardware for solid installation.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Chevy Blazer, K5 Blazer, C10, C20, C30, K10, K20 and K30 pickup or Suburban and GMC C15, C1500, C25, C2500, C35, C3500, K15, K1500, K25, K2500, K35 and K3500 pickup or Suburban (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

Yes, part number 15317 is designed for 1988–2000 Chevrolet and GMC full-size pickups equipped with a 10" step bumper. If your truck has a different bumper style or is outside this year range, this hitch is not compatible.
The hitch weight is 60 lbs.
No, drilling is not required. The hitch uses existing factory bolt holes from the bumper bracket.
You will need a ratchet, 3/4" socket, 19mm socket, torque wrench, and safety glasses. A torque wrench is essential because fasteners must be torqued to specific values (110 ft-lbs for 1/2" fasteners and 87 ft-lbs for 12mm fasteners).
Yes. The manual specifies to lower the spare tire for ease of installation. After installation is complete, the spare tire is reinstalled.
The hitch includes: 8 × 1/2"-13 UNC 1-1/2" carriage bolts (for center-to-side plate assembly), 4 × 1/2"-13 UNC 1-3/4" carriage bolts (for middle frame holes with SP1 spacers), 2 × M12×1.75 hex bolts (for rearmost frame holes), 2 × 1/2" S-con washers, 2 × 0.250" × 1.50" × 2.00" square-hole spacers (SP1), 2 × 0.250" × 1.50" × 3.00" square-hole spacers (SP4), and 12 × 1/2"-13 UNC serrated-flange nuts. The rearmost holes use M12 hex bolts with conical-toothed washers; middle holes use 1/2" × 1-3/4" carriage bolts with SP1 spacers; forwardmost holes use 1/2" × 1-3/4" carriage bolts with SP4 spacers.
No. The factory bumper bracket bolts are removed and returned to the vehicle owner. The hitch is secured using the supplied fasteners (M12 hex bolts for the rearmost holes, and 1/2" carriage bolts with spacers for the middle and forwardmost holes).
All 1/2" fasteners must be torqued to 110 ft-lbs.
All 12mm fasteners must be torqued to 87 ft-lbs.
1. Loosely secure the center section to the driver and passenger side plates using 1/2" × 1-1/2" carriage bolts and hex flange nuts. 2. Lower the spare tire. 3. Remove existing bumper bracket bolts from both frame rails. 4. Align the rearmost holes in the side plates with the bolt holes from the factory brackets. 5. Secure the hitch with supplied M12 hex bolts and conical-toothed washers into the rearmost hole; install 1/2" × 1-3/4" carriage bolts with SP1 spacers into the middle holes and secure with 1/2" flange nuts; install 1/2" × 1-3/4" carriage bolts with SP4 spacers into the forwardmost holes and secure with 1/2" flange nuts. 6. Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs and all 12mm fasteners to 87 ft-lbs. 7. Reinstall the spare tire.
The manual does not provide the gross load capacity values for this hitch. The manual states: "Do not exceed vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity." Contact Curt Manufacturing technical support at 1-877-287-8634 or consult your vehicle's owner manual for the maximum towing capacity.
Periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, so inspect before each towing trip and at regular maintenance intervals.
Professional installation takes approximately 60 minutes. DIY installation by a novice takes approximately 69 minutes.
The Curt 15317 is designed for 1988–2000 Chevrolet and GMC full-size pickups with a 10" step bumper. If your truck matches these specifications, it will fit.
No drilling is required. The hitch uses existing factory bolt holes.
Torque all 1/2" fasteners to 110 ft-lbs and all 12mm fasteners to 87 ft-lbs.
The hitch weight is 60 lbs.
