Whatever the next item is on your to-do list -- whether it's arriving at the jobsite before dawn or getting your travel trailer set up in time to see the sunset -- CURT class 4 trailer hitches offer greater towing power to let you Bring It. These custom receiver hitches are built to tackle bigger jobs and bolder adventures, all while giving you a custom fit for your vehicle. Class 4 hitches are available for a variety of makes and models, from pickup trucks and SUVs to full-size and commercial vans. This particular class 4 hitch fits certain years of the Ford E150, E150 Econoline, E250, E250 Econoline, E350 Econoline and E350 Super Duty (to verify vehicle compatibility, see application info). It provides a weight carrying capacity of 10,000 lbs. GTW and 1,000 lbs. TW. It can also accept a weight distributing hitch, offering a maximum WD capacity of 12,000 lbs. and a WDTW of 1,200 lbs. CURT class 4 tow hitches are as much suited for work as they are for play. With their high load capacities, they are typically used for towing larger trailers, including everything from a double-axle utility trailer or livestock trailer to a full-length camper or large boat trailer (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component). All CURT class 4 receiver hitches come with a 2" receiver tube opening and all the necessary hardware for a complete installation. From light-duty to heavy-duty, every CURT custom hitch is engineered to be vehicle-specific, using actual vehicles to create the optimal design. We then combine high-strength steel, precise welding and a co-cured finish of liquid A-coat and durable black powder coat to provide you with a hitch you can depend on. To prove it, we test all our hitches in accordance with SAE J684 for safety.
If your vehicle is not equipped with wiring for towing a trailer, CURT custom wiring is the ideal solution. A custom wiring harness -- also called a T-connector -- is a simple, plug-and-play electrical device that plugs into your automotive electric system and provides a standard, universal trailer wiring connection. This is done using two or more vehicle-specific, OEM-compatible connectors to plug into the taillight assembly, eliminating the need for cutting, splicing and soldering during installation. Custom wiring harnesses are made vehicle-specific, and while they are not available for all vehicles, they do offer one of the fastest, easiest and most secure ways to wire a vehicle for towing. This particular plug-in harness provides a 4-way flat connector socket and is designed to be a custom wiring harness to fit certain years of the Ford E150 Econoline, E150 Econoline Club Wagon, E250 Econoline, E350 Econoline and E350 Econoline Club Wagon, Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute and Mercury Sable wagon (except with dual exhaust) (to verify your vehicle compatibility, see application info). It comes with all necessary wiring components to establish a reliable trailer wiring connection, as well as a dust cover to keep the connector clean when not in use. You have a picture in mind of your next destination -- maybe it's the boat landing at your favorite fishing spot, maybe it's a campsite that overlooks one of nature's masterpieces, or maybe it's the next big jobsite. However, turning that picture into a reality takes more than just daydreaming. It takes a solid connection and the right amount of power. CURT custom wiring is made with some of the most sophisticated technology in the industry and is designed to install with ease, giving you a long-lasting electrical connection for your towing hitch setup.

The 92 - 94 Ford Econoline van Curt 2" Class 4 Trailer Tow Hitch + 5-Flat Wiring Kit Tow Boat/Utility Trailer with Surge Brakes 14053 (Part #5W-CHW-932) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Yes, part number 14053 is designed for Ford E-150, E-250, and E-350 models from 1975 to 2006. However, installation procedures vary depending on whether your vehicle is a pre-1992 model or 1992 and later. Consult the appropriate installation figures for your model year.
When used as a weight-carrying hitch, the gross load capacity is 10,000 lbs. trailer weight and 1,000 lbs. tongue weight. When used as a weight-distribution hitch, the capacity is 12,000 lbs. trailer weight and 1,200 lbs. tongue weight. However, you must not exceed your vehicle manufacturer's recommended towing capacity, which may be lower.
The hitch weight is 40 lbs.
The spare tire may need to be lowered during installation to avoid contact with the hitch. However, relocation of the spare tire is not required. You may reposition it forward to avoid contact. After installation, raise the spare tire and check for clearance between the differential and brake lines.
Yes, if your vehicle is equipped with a carbon canister on the driver's side frame rail, you must lower it before installation. This is necessary to avoid drilling into it and to access the frame attachment surfaces. After installation, raise the carbon canister and check for clearance between the differential and brake lines.
Yes, drilling is required. For 1992 and later models, you will drill a 1/2" hole in each frame rail using the hitch as a template. For pre-1992 models, you will drill three holes per side through the frame with a 1/2" drill bit. Be careful not to drill into the carbon canister. Some vehicles may have existing holes in the frame rail that can be used instead of drilling new ones.
Yes, you must remove frame undercoating from the attachment surfaces before installation. This is required for both 1992 and later models and pre-1992 models.
Yes, if your vehicle has a factory-installed optional driver's side trailer wiring connection on the bumper, you must disconnect it before installation. After the hitch is installed, reinstall the factory trailer wiring connection around the hitch.
All fasteners must be tightened to 110 lb.-ft. This applies to both 1992 and later models and pre-1992 models.
The parts list includes: 14 flat washers (1/2"), 4 hex head cap screws (1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4"), 2 carriage bolts (1/2-13 UNC, 1-3/4"), 6 round hole spacers (0.250 x 1.50 x 2.00"), 2 fender washers (1/2"), 4 square hole spacers (0.250 x 1.00 x 2.00"), 8 wedge spacers (1/2"), 4 hex head cap screws (1/2-13 UNC, 2-1/4"), and 8 serrated flange nuts (1/2-13 UNC). Hardware usage varies by application.
The manual specifies that a 1/2" drill bit is required for drilling frame holes. A wrench or socket set for tightening 1/2" fasteners to 110 lb.-ft. is also necessary. The manual does not list other specific tools required.
Yes. For 1992 and later models, you position the hitch by lining up existing holes and drill a 1/2" hole in each frame rail. For pre-1992 models, you center the hitch so that the frame crossmember rivets fit into the notch in the side plates, then drill three holes per side. The number and location of holes differ between model years. Refer to the appropriate installation figures for your model year.
Yes, on some pre-1992 models, the tail pipe and/or tail pipe bracket may have to be relocated and/or modified to accommodate the hitch. This is not required on all vehicles. Check your specific vehicle configuration.
After installation, raise the spare tire and carbon canister (if lowered), and check for clearance between the differential and brake lines. Periodically check the hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound.
You should periodically check the receiver hitch to ensure that all fasteners are tight and that all structural components are sound. The manual does not specify an exact interval, but regular inspection is recommended to maintain safe operation.

Yes, the Curt 55343 is designed for Ford Econoline vehicles. It is also compatible with Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Sable wagon. The harness is designed for SUVs, mini and full-sized vans, and passenger cars. Verify your specific vehicle model matches one of these applications before purchasing.
Yes, the Curt 55343 custom wiring harness is compatible with the Mazda Tribute. It is designed for SUVs, mini and full-sized vans, and passenger cars, and the Tribute is listed among the supported applications.
Yes, the Curt 55343 custom wiring harness is compatible with Mercury Sable wagon. It supports both SUVs, mini and full-sized vans, and passenger cars.
The kit includes a custom wiring harness with color-coded wires (red, green, yellow, and white), a black converter box, a 4-flat connector with dust cover, a ground screw with ring terminal, double-sided tape for mounting the converter box, and cable ties for securing loose wires.
You need a Phillips screwdriver and a panel trim removal tool. A 3/32" drill bit is required only if you need to drill a pilot hole for the ground screw (if no suitable existing screw is available in the vehicle frame).
Starting on the passenger side, remove the two Phillips screws securing the taillight assembly. Gently pull the taillight rearward to locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors. Separate the top two connectors from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. Repeat this process on the driver side, disconnecting the middle connector.
On the passenger side, insert the custom wiring harness end with the red wire between the top two disconnected taillight connectors.
On the passenger side, insert the custom wiring harness end with the green wire between the other separated taillight connectors (the lower pair).
Starting on the passenger side, route the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire down through the opening between the bumper and body under the taillight housing. Route the wire along the backside of the bumper to the driver side and up through the opening. Insert the custom wiring harness end with the yellow wire between the separated taillight housing connectors on the driver side.
Drilling is required only if no suitable existing screw with nut is available in the vehicle frame near the taillight connector. If you must drill, create a 3/32" pilot hole in an area free of rust, dirt and paint. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame, or drill a 3/32" pilot hole if needed. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Secure the white ground wire using the ring terminal and provided screw.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape.
When not in use, roll up the 4-flat connector and store it in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion. Test the wiring harness for proper function by using a test light or connecting a properly wired trailer.
