Yes, the 55379 Custom Wiring Harness is designed for Toyota Pickup and Toyota Tacoma models. Confirm your vehicle matches one of these applications before purchasing.
The 55379 has two circuit ratings: Signal Circuits are rated at 3.0 amps per side, and Tail/Running Circuits are rated at 5.0 amps total. Do not exceed these ratings or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower, as exceeding the rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire.
You will need a Phillips screwdriver and a panel trim removal tool. The harness comes with a provided screw, ring terminal, double-sided tape, cable ties and a 4-flat dust cover.
Yes. Both taillight assemblies must be removed by taking out four Phillips screws from each assembly. Pull out carefully to avoid damaging the alignment tabs on the back. This gives you access to the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors where the custom harness is inserted.
Locate the vehicle taillight wiring harness connectors behind the taillights. Separate them from the taillight housing, taking care not to damage the locking tabs. On the driver's side, insert the custom harness end with the yellow wire between the separated connectors, ensuring they are fully inserted with locking tabs in place. Route the harness end with the green wire to the passenger side and repeat the process.
Drilling may be required for the ground connection. You must locate a suitable grounding point near the connector, such as an existing screw with nut in the vehicle frame. If no existing screw is available, drill a 3/32" pilot hole. The area must be free of rust, dirt and paint. Before drilling, check for hidden items behind or under any surface to avoid damage and personal injury.
Locate a flat spot inside the vehicle near the taillight and adhere the black converter box using the provided double-sided tape. The box should be positioned in a convenient location that does not interfere with vehicle operation.
When in use, route the 4-flat to the center of the vehicle and out of the trunk. When not in use, roll it up and store in a convenient, out-of-the-way location inside the trunk. Secure any loose wires with the provided cable ties to prevent tangling and damage.
Reinstall all items removed during installation. Install the provided 4-flat dust cover to help prevent corrosion of the connector.
All installation steps must be followed to ensure the harness functions properly. Once installed, test for proper function by using a test light or by connecting a properly wired trailer. This confirms that all connections are secure and the harness is operating correctly.
Exceeding the product rating can cause loss of warranty, overheating and potential fire. Do not exceed the product rating (Signal Circuits 3.0 amps per side, Tail/Running Circuits 5.0 amps total) or your tow vehicle's lamp load rating, whichever is lower.
