These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Ford Expedition (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

Install the passenger side first, then repeat the same process for the driver side. For each side: (1) position the front mounting bracket with the downward sloping end toward the front and attach to the side panel using self-tapping bolts; (2) insert hex head bolts through the pinch weld and secure with nylock nuts; (3) position the rear mounting bracket with the downward sloping end toward the rear and attach to the side panel; (4) insert hex head bolts through the pinch weld and secure with nylock nuts; (5) mount the side bar to the brackets using ½" hex head bolts, lock washers, and thick flat washers; (6) level and adjust the side bar, then tighten all hardware.
Do not tighten any bolts until the end. Leave all hardware loose during the mounting bracket and side bar attachment steps. Only after the side bar is positioned, leveled, and adjusted should you tighten all hardware.

Position the rear passenger mounting bracket with the downward sloping end toward the rear. Attach it to the existing holes on the side panel using 2 pieces of 8-1.25mm x 25mm self-tapping bolts. Do not tighten at this time. Then insert 3 pieces of 8-1.25mm x 25mm hex head bolts (with 8mm flat washers) from the bottom through the pinch weld and mounting bracket holes, and secure them with 3 pieces of 8mm nylock nuts and 8mm flat washers.
Mount the side bar to the mounting brackets using 2 pieces of ½" x 2" hex head bolts, 2 pieces of ½" lock washers, and 2 pieces of ½" thick flat washers. Do not tighten at this time. After positioning and leveling the side bar, tighten all hardware.
After mounting the side bar to both the front and rear mounting brackets, position it so it is level (horizontally aligned) and properly adjusted to your desired height and angle. Once the side bar is in the correct position, tighten all hardware.
