ARIES 3" side bars are more than a fancy decal for your truck, Jeep or SUV. They are a confident first step on each new adventure. These 3" nerf bars are constructed from strong carbon steel for superior rigidity, and they feature a sleek semi-gloss black powder coat finish. For an added edge, each nerf bar also goes through an E-coat process, before receiving its black powder coat, to strengthen and protect the final finish against peeling, chipping and scratching. ARIES 3" round side bars are also available in polished stainless steel or semi-gloss black powder-coated steel. All ARIES 3" nerf bars come with heavy-duty steel brackets and non-skid step pads. The mounting brackets are strong and custom-designed for specific makes and models to allow the side bars to contour to the lines of your vehicle. They offer easy installation and the strength necessary to provide sound footing. These particular custom nerf bars fit specific years of the Ford F150 (see application info to verify fitment). ARIES 3" round side bars also come with non-skid step pads made of tough polypropylene. These step pads feature a textured pattern for enhanced safety, and they cover a wide portion of the tubes for a more comfortable step.

The ARIES 3" Round Black Steel Side Bars, Select Ford F-150 Step Nerf Bar Kit (Part #BBDR203040) Refer to the included instructions for installation details. Basic hand tools are typically all you need.
Curt 203040 and 203040-2 are designed for 2009-10 Ford F-150 Regular Cab only. Compatibility with other model years, cab styles (SuperCab, CrewCab), or bed lengths is not stated in the manual. Contact the manufacturer or a fitment specialist to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle.
The kit includes: 1 driver/left sidebar, 1 passenger/right sidebar, 2 driver and 2 passenger mounting brackets (front and rear), 2 nut and bolt plates (12mm x 40mm x 10mm), 2 bolt plates (12mm x 40mm), 4 hex bolts (10-1.50mm x 35mm), 4 hex bolts (8-1.25mm x 30mm), 4 hex bolts (1/2" x 2"), 4 hex bolts (1/2" x 1-1/4"), plastic retainers (11mm and 9mm), flat washers in multiple sizes, lock washers, and hex nuts. Verify all parts are present before starting installation.
The manual states that assistance is recommended. The installation involves drilling, multiple fastening points, precise bracket alignment, and coordination of both driver and passenger sides. While professional installation is not explicitly required, the complexity suggests having a second person present is advisable.
Yes, drilling is required. You must drill a 3/8" hole through the pinch weld to clearance the fender-to-body mounting holes if necessary due to factory body panel misalignment. The manual notes this may be needed to properly align the front mounting bracket.
The manual specifies a small flat screwdriver (to spread the fender clips apart for removal) and a 3/8" drill bit (to clearance mounting holes if necessary due to factory misalignment). Standard socket and wrench sets for the various bolt sizes (8mm, 10mm, 12mm, and 1/2") are implied but not explicitly listed.
1. Remove fender clips and fasteners from the driver side. 2. Install the driver side front mounting bracket using the nut and bolt plate in the floor panel. 3. Install the driver side rear mounting bracket. 4. Attach the driver sidebar to both mounting brackets. 5. Align and tighten all driver side hardware. 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for the passenger side. 7. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains tight.
Hold the front mounting bracket at a slight angle against the body. Move the top of the bracket into position between the body mount and the lip on the body, lining up the threaded end of the nut and bolt plate with the T-slot in the bracket. Once the top is properly positioned, rotate the bottom of the bracket into position to align with the holes in the pinch weld. The fit may be snug and may require a couple of tries to position correctly.
The plastic retainers serve two purposes: they prevent the bolt plates from falling into the body cavity during installation, and they aid in mounting the brackets. The 11mm retainers are used with the front nut and bolt plates and should be threaded only part way down initially to allow adjustment. The 9mm retainer on the rear bracket protects the outer painted surface of the body by sitting between the flat washer and the body.
No. The manual specifies "Do not tighten at this time" for the front bracket fasteners (step 4-5), rear bracket fasteners (step 7), and sidebar attachment bolts (step 8). Only after aligning the sidebar and adjusting it as required (step 9) should you tighten all hardware. This allows for proper alignment before final tightening.
Select a 12mm x 40mm x 10mm nut and bolt plate and thread an 11mm plastic retainer part way onto it. Insert the assembly into the square hole in the floor panel next to the body mount. Line up the nut on the bolt plate with the round hole. Thread the plastic retainer down but leave it loose enough to move the bolt plate around during bracket installation. This allows adjustment before final tightening.
The 12mm threaded end of the nut and bolt plate is secured with one 12mm flat washer, one 12mm lock washer, and one 12mm hex nut. The remaining hole is secured by threading one 10mm x 35mm hex bolt with one 10mm flat washer and one 10mm lock washer into the nut.
Two 8mm x 30mm hex bolts are inserted from below with two 8mm x 22mm OD x 1.5mm large flat washers (outer), secured on top with two 8mm x 17.1mm OD x 1.3mm small flat washers (inner, to clear the bracket), two 8mm lock washers, and two 8mm hex nuts.
Remove the tape covering the holes on the inner body panel. Select a 12mm bolt plate and thread an 11mm plastic retainer part way onto it. Insert the bolt plate and retainer into the rear mounting hole. Thread the plastic retainer all the way down until snug against the body. Hang the rear mounting bracket from the bolt plate and secure with one 12mm lock washer, one 12mm flat washer, and one 12mm hex nut. Insert one 10mm x 35mm hex bolt with one 10mm flat washer and 9mm plastic retainer from outside-in, then secure with one 10mm lock washer, one 10mm flat washer, and one 10mm hex nut.
The 9mm plastic retainer is intended to protect the outer painted surface of the body. Thread it onto the 10mm x 35mm hex bolt so that it sits between the 10mm flat washer and the body surface.
Attach the sidebar to the mounting brackets using two 1/2" x 2" hex head bolts, two 1/2" flat washers, and two 1/2" lock washers. Do not tighten at this time. After aligning the sidebar and adjusting as required, tighten all hardware.
Yes. For passenger side installation, remove the ground strap next to the mounting holes before installing the front mounting bracket to allow access. After bracket installation is complete, replace the ground strap.
Starting at the front of the driver side, remove the plastic pin, the two small hex bolts, and the metal clips holding the bottom of the fender to the body. Use a small flat screwdriver to spread the clip apart for easy removal. Due to factory body panel misalignment, it may be necessary to open these holes slightly with a 3/8" drill bit.
Wax the product after installing to protect your investment. Regular waxing is recommended to add a protective layer over the finish. Do not use any type of polish or wax that may contain abrasives, as these could damage the finish. For stainless steel, aluminum polish may be used to polish small scratches and scuffs, and mild soap may be used to clean. For gloss black finishes, use mild soap only. Perform periodic inspections to ensure all hardware remains secure and tight.
Read all instructions carefully before starting installation. Use a small flat screwdriver to spread fender clips apart to avoid damage. When drilling the 3/8" hole through the pinch weld, ensure proper drilling technique to avoid injury or damage to vehicle components. Assistance is recommended due to the complexity of the installation and the need to coordinate multiple fastening points and bracket alignment.
Perform periodic inspections to ensure that all hardware is secure and tight. The manual does not specify the inspection interval, but regular checks are recommended to maintain the integrity of the installation.
