ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are unique from other power side steps because they are actually two steps in one. This patented step-within-a-step design -- combined with a no-drill bracket installation, control module operation and powder-coated aluminum construction -- truly makes these retractable running boards an asset for the offroad truck or Jeep, particularly as lifted truck steps. ActionTrac powered running boards have one 4" wide step on top of the main housing and one 3" wide that automatically deploys as needed. When the door opens, the control module deploys the power step 8" below the main step, 15" below the doorsill, depending on the model. This two-step design offers enhanced safety and easier vehicle entry and exit, especially on large, lifted vehicles. It's also very helpful for families with young children and for elderly passengers. The boards contour to the vehicle and offer extra protection for the rocker panels from small road debris. For additional safety, the module is able to detect any obstructions during operation to avoid pinch hazards. LED lights are also built into the housing to illuminate the steps when deployed. ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are made for vehicle-specific installation for a custom fit. They use pre-existing factory holes for the brackets to eliminate drilling. They also do not require any splicing into factory wiring. These particular running boards fit specific years of the Toyota Tundra extended cab (see application info to verify fitment). Each set is constructed from powder-coated aluminum to be strong, lightweight and non-corrosive. The quiet, maintenance-free rotary motor is shielded within the main housing, along with the power step pivot points and all electrical components, protecting them from the harsh elements. NOTE: Boards, brackets and wiring are included.

The kit includes one driver-side and one passenger-side running board (sold separately), six T-rails, two front and four middle/rear mounting brackets, 12 M8 hex bolts, 24 M8 flat washers, 12 M8 lock washers, 12 5/16" nylock nuts, two rubber grommets, four door sensors, two door sensor extensions, four magnets, two alcohol wipes, one power switch, one circuit board, anti-seize compound, wire loom, a two-piece wiring harness, two LED lights with brackets, and double-sided foam tape in two sizes.
The manual does not specify vehicle models, years, cab styles, bed lengths, or drivetrain compatibility. Multiple part numbers are listed (3047952, 3037952, 3048351, 3038351, and others), suggesting different vehicle applications, but the manual does not indicate which part number fits which vehicle. Contact CURT Manufacturing at 844-278-4357 or consult the product listing for your specific vehicle.
You will need a ratchet, drill, socket set, drill bit set, zip ties, and a level. The manual lists these as required tools. A 3/4" drill bit and 1" drill bit are also needed for specific steps (power switch hole and floor hole, if required).
Yes. Step 5 states 'With help, carefully place the running board onto the mounting brackets,' indicating that at least one additional person is required to safely position the running board during installation.
The manual does not explicitly state whether the battery must be disconnected. However, it does warn that 'Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity.' For safety, consult a qualified technician or the manufacturer at 844-278-4357.
Installation proceeds in this order: (1) Install driver-side front, middle, and rear mounting brackets to the vehicle body panel using M8 bolts, washers, and lock washers, snugged but not fully tightened. (2) Insert three T-rails into the driver-side running board slot. (3) Place the running board onto the brackets with help, aligning T-rails and sliding the top mounting track over bracket flanges. (4) Secure the running board to brackets using M8 flat washers and 5/16" nylock nuts on each T-rail stud, snugged but not fully tightened. (5) Adjust the running board to desired location. (6) Tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, then running board connections. (7) Repeat steps 1–6 on the passenger side. (8) Install wiring harness, door sensors, LED lights, power switch, and circuit board.
Each bracket is specific to a mounting location: one front bracket and two middle/rear brackets per side. The front bracket attaches to two threaded holes on the inside of the body panel using two M8 hex bolts, two M8 lock washers, and two M8 flat washers. The middle and rear brackets attach the same way. Refer to the product photo on page 1 for correct locations. Apply anti-seize to all bolts being inserted into threaded holes in the body panel.
Insert three T-rails into the running board slot, positioned as close to the mounting bracket locations as possible. Place the running board onto the brackets with help, aligning the T-rails with the brackets and sliding the top mounting track over the top flange on each bracket. Adjust the T-rails in the lower track so the studs drop into the slots on the bottom of each bracket. Secure each T-rail stud to the front and middle brackets using one M8 flat washer and one 5/16" nylock nut per stud, snugged but not fully tightened. For the rear bracket, place an LED light bracket over one T-rail stud before securing with the same hardware.
Snug all hardware during initial installation but do not fully tighten. After adjusting the running board to the desired location, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the running board connections. The manual recommends this sequence to ensure proper alignment.
Drilling is required for the power switch installation: drill a 3/4" hole in the panel where you want to install the switch. Additionally, if there is no factory floor plug behind the driver or passenger seat, you must drill a 1" hole through the vehicle floor to route the rear actuator and LED light wires. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel and no obstructions in the drilling location.
Yes. Step 9 requires removal of the front and rear door trim panels on both sides of the vehicle, and removal of any other vehicle components that could interfere with the wiring harness routing.
If there is a factory floor plug behind the driver or passenger seat, you will route the rear actuator and LED light wires through it. Step 11 states: 'With the rear wires inserted through the floor hole, cut a slot in the floor plug and re-insert it into the hole.' This is a permanent modification to the factory plug.
The torque specification for M8 bolts is 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the M8 hex bolts used to attach the mounting brackets to the vehicle body panel.
The torque specification for 5/16" bolts is 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the 5/16" nylock nuts used to secure the T-rail studs to the mounting brackets.
The fuse rating is 20A. The fuse must be removed before installation and plugged in after all wiring is complete. The fuse is located on the section of the wiring harness that attaches to the battery.
Remove the 20A fuse from the wiring harness before installing. Attach the fused section to the battery and route the opposite end through the firewall into the cab, securing it with zip ties. Remove front and rear door trim panels. Route the second section of the wiring harness under the carpet from the passenger-side rear to the desired location. On the driver side, route the power and sensor wires (orange/yellow) to the front underneath the carpet. Route the driver-side rear actuator (red/black) and LED light (brown/tan) either through the factory floor plug (if present) or through a drilled 1" hole with a rubber grommet. Repeat on the passenger side with the appropriate wire colours (grey/green sensor, red/black actuator, pink/tan LED light). Cover all wires with slit loom for protection.
Driver-side wiring uses the following colours: rear door sensor (purple/orange), front door sensor (yellow/orange), LED light (brown/dark brown), and actuator (black/red).
Passenger-side wiring uses the following colours: rear door sensor (white/blue), front door sensor (grey/green), LED light (pink/brown), and actuator (black/red).
Depending on the vehicle, you may need to use the supplied sensor harness extensions for the two front door sensors. The manual states this in Step 14 but does not specify which vehicles require them. If the front door sensors cannot reach their mounting locations without extensions, use them.
Plug the door sensor into the wiring harness and route it up the door frame and under the carpet. Use sensor harness extensions for the front door sensors if needed. Wipe the sensor and door with the provided alcohol wipe. Place two pieces of 1/2" x 1/2" double-sided tape on the sensor and attach it to the vehicle. Repeat for all four doors. Then, using 3/4" x 3/4" double-sided tape, place the magnet on the door so it lines up with the sensor. Repeat for all four doors.
Locate a spot to install the power switch. Drill a 3/4" hole in the panel with a 3/4" drill bit. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel. Wire the switch into place. Be sure to plug the blue female wires into the silver male ends and the red female wire into the bronze male end.
Plug the LED light wire (brown/tan for driver side, pink/tan for passenger side) into the LED light and secure it to the mounting bracket tab with the supplied jam nut. The LED light bracket is placed over one of the T-rail studs at the rear mounting bracket before securing with M8 flat washer and 5/16" nylock nut.
Place the circuit board underneath the carpet under the rear passenger seat. Attach the two wiring harnesses to it and re-install the 20A fuse that was removed in Step 8.
Improper electrical installation may result in personal injury. Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity. Before drilling, confirm there are no wires behind the panel and no obstructions in the drilling location. The system requires manual operation of the boards. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage to the boards or vehicle. The system has built-in protection against quick cycling; if it shuts off after repeated door openings, turn the switch off, wait 5 seconds, and turn it back on to reset.
After installation, periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. Perform a periodic inspection of all wires and connections to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
No maintenance is required on the waterproof harness or water-resistant motors. If mud or dirt is built up on the steps, spray them off and let them air dry. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish. Periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections. Periodic inspections should be performed to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight.
Apply a dry, graphite powder lubricant on each pivot point.
The manual does not specify vehicle models or years. Multiple part numbers are available for different applications. Contact CURT at 844-278-4357 or check the product listing for your specific vehicle.
You need a ratchet, drill, socket set, drill bit set, zip ties, and level. A 3/4" and 1" drill bit are also required.

Yes. You must drill a 3/4" hole for the power switch. If there is no factory floor plug, you must also drill a 1" hole through the vehicle floor. Always confirm no wires or obstructions are present before drilling.
M8 bolts and 5/16" bolts: 7 ft-lbs. Apply anti-seize to all bolts inserted into threaded holes in the body panel.
20A. Remove the fuse before installation and reinstall after all wiring is complete.
Have a qualified person perform electrical installation if unfamiliar with electrical systems. Confirm no wires or obstructions before drilling. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage. The system requires manual operation.
Check the following in order: (1) Double-check all connections. (2) Check the fuse to make sure it is plugged in. (3) Verify the on/off switch is getting power. (4) Verify the circuit board is plugged in. (5) Verify the door sensors are plugged in.
The light should only be on when the system is turned on. If it is lit in both positions, switch the red wires on the back of the switch. This will not kill your battery unless you leave it lit for a month with no use.
Check the motor and sensors: (1) Unplug the motor from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make them deploy; switch the leads to make them retract. If this works, plug the motor back in. If you hear only a clicking sound, there is likely internal damage. (2) Unplug both sensors from the wiring harness and plug one back in. Manually test by putting a magnet close (but not touching) to the sensor. It should make the step retract. When the magnet is away, the step should deploy. If steps deploy right after installation, align the magnets. Test one sensor at a time, align the magnet on the door, and mark the position so you can realign them if they move. Sensors have a label with MP###802 or MP###902.
In rare circumstances, the circuit board may be faulty. Call CURT product support at 844-278-4357.
The system has built-in protection against quick cycling to prevent damage. Turn the on/off switch to off, wait 5 seconds, and then turn it on again. This will reset the system and allow it to work normally.
