ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are unique from other power side steps because they are actually two steps in one. This patented step-within-a-step design -- combined with a no-drill bracket installation, control module operation and powder-coated aluminum construction -- truly makes these retractable runn ing boards an asset for the offroad truck or Jeep, particularly as lifted truck steps. ActionTrac powered running boards have one 4" wide step on top of the main housing and one 3" wide that automatically deploys as needed. When the door opens, the control module deploys the power step 8" below the main step, 15" below the doorsill, depending on the model. This two-step design offers enhanced safety and easier vehicle entry and exit, especially on large, lifted vehicles. It's also very helpful for families with young children and for elderly passengers. The boards contour to the vehicle and offer extra protection for the rocker panels from small road debris. For additional safety, the module is able to detect any obstructions during operation to avoid pinch hazards. LED lights are also built into the housing to illuminate the steps when deployed. ARIES ActionTrac powered running boards are made for vehicle-specific installation for a custom fit. They use pre-existing factory holes for the brackets to eliminate drilling. They also do not require any splicing into factory wiring. These particular running boards fit specific years of the Toyota Tundra (see application info to verify fitment). Each set is constructed from powder-coated aluminum to be strong, lightweight and non-corrosive. The quiet, maintenance-free rotary motor is shielded within the main housing, along with the power step pivot points and all electrical components, protecting them from the harsh elements. NOTE: Boards, brackets and wiring are included.

Professional installation is recommended for the electrical components. The manual states: 'Unless you are familiar with the installation and handling of electrical systems, have this step performed by someone who has that familiarity.' The mechanical installation is rated as moderate difficulty.
At least two people are recommended. Step 5 states: 'With help, carefully place the running board onto the mounting brackets,' indicating that assistance is needed when positioning the running board.
The manual does not specify which vehicles are compatible with part number 3048351. Contact CURT Manufacturing at 844-278-4357 or consult a fitment database to confirm compatibility with your specific vehicle make, model, year, cab style, and bed length.
Yes. The manual specifies: 'Apply anti-seize to all bolts being inserted into a threaded hole in the body panel.' This is required for the M8 hex bolts used to attach the front, middle, and rear mounting brackets to the vehicle.
The manual does not explicitly state whether the battery must be disconnected before installation. However, it does require connecting the wiring harness to the battery in Step 8 and recommends professional electrical installation if unfamiliar with electrical systems. Consult the manufacturer at 844-278-4357 for guidance on safe electrical work procedures.
Install in this order: (1) Install driver-side front, middle, and rear mounting brackets to the vehicle using M8 bolts, snugged but not fully tightened. (2) Insert T-rails into the driver-side running board. (3) Place the running board onto the brackets and align T-rails with bracket studs. (4) Secure the running board to the brackets with M8 flat washers and 5/16" nylock nuts, snugged but not fully tightened. (5) Adjust the running board to desired location. (6) Tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, then tighten running board connections. (7) Repeat steps 1–6 on the passenger side. (8) Install electrical components: wiring harness, door sensors, LED lights, power switch, and circuit board.
Insert the three T-rails into the slot on the running board and position each T-rail as close to the mounting bracket location as possible. This ensures proper alignment when the board is placed onto the brackets.
Snug all hardware initially but do not fully tighten. After the running board is positioned to the desired location, tighten all brackets to the vehicle first, followed by the running board connections. This sequence ensures proper alignment before final tightening.
Only if there is no existing floor plug behind the driver or passenger seat. If a plug exists, you can route the rear actuator and LED light through it by cutting a slot in the plug. If no plug exists, drill a 1" hole through the floor near the rear bracket location. WARNING: Make sure there are no obstructions in the drilling location before drilling.
Locate a spot on the interior panel to install the power switch and drill a 3/4" hole using a 3/4" drill bit. WARNING: Confirm there are no wires behind the panel prior to drilling.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the M8 hex bolts used to attach the mounting brackets to the vehicle.
5/16" bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs. This applies to the 5/16" nylock nuts used to secure the running board to the mounting brackets.
The fuse rating is 20A. The fuse must be removed before installing the wiring harness and re-installed after all wiring is complete.
Driver-side door sensors use the following wire colors: front door sensor (yellow/orange) and rear door sensor (purple/orange).
Passenger-side door sensors use the following wire colors: front door sensor (grey/green) and rear door sensor (white/blue).
Driver-side LED light uses brown/dark brown wires. Passenger-side LED light uses pink/brown wires.
Both driver-side and passenger-side actuators use black/red wires.
Plug the blue female wires into the silver male ends and the red female wire into the bronze male end. This is critical for proper operation.
No. The manual states: 'Depending on the vehicle, you may need to use the supplied sensor harness extensions for the two front door sensors.' Extensions are only required for the front doors if needed for your specific vehicle.
Plug the LED light wire (brown/tan for driver side, pink/tan for passenger side) into the LED light and secure it to the mounting bracket tab with the supplied jam nut.
Yes. The manual includes a disclaimer: 'Use of this switch requires manual operation of the boards. Failure to retract the boards when operating the vehicle could result in damage to the boards or vehicle.' You must manually retract the boards using the power switch before driving.
After installation, perform periodic inspections to ensure all mounting hardware remains tight. The manual recommends checking all wires and connections for visible damage or loose connections. Refer to the 'Notes and Maintenance' section for cleaning and care instructions.
If mud or dirt is built up on the steps, spray them off and let them air dry. Mild automotive detergent may be used to clean the product. Do not use dish detergent, abrasive cleaners, abrasive pads, wire brushes or other similar products that may damage the finish.
No maintenance is required on the waterproof harness or water-resistant motors. However, periodic inspection of all wires and connections should be performed to ensure there is no visible damage or loose connections.
The manual does not specify vehicle compatibility. Contact CURT Manufacturing at 844-278-4357 or check a fitment database with your vehicle's make, model, year, cab style, and bed length.
Drilling may be required. A 3/4" hole is needed for the power switch. A 1" floor hole is required only if no factory floor plug exists behind the driver or passenger seat.
M8 bolts should be torqued to 7 ft-lbs.
20A fuse. Remove before installation and re-install after all wiring is complete.
Yes. The boards require manual operation using the power switch. Failure to retract them when operating the vehicle could result in damage to the boards or vehicle.
Check the following in order: (1) Verify all connections are secure. (2) Check that the 20A fuse is plugged in. (3) Confirm the on/off switch is getting power. (4) Verify the circuit board is plugged in. (5) Confirm the door sensors are plugged in. If all connections are secure and the system still does not work, proceed to test the motor and sensors individually.
The light should only be on when the system is turned on. If it is lit in both positions, switch the red wires on the back of the switch. This will not kill your battery unless you leave it lit for a month with no use.
Test the motor first: unplug it from the wiring harness and apply external 12V power to the leads. One position will make the steps deploy; switch the leads to make them retract. If this works, plug the motor back in. If you hear only a clicking sound with no movement, there is likely internal damage. If the motor works, test the sensors: unplug both from the harness, plug one back in, and hold a magnet close (not touching) to the sensor. The step should retract when the magnet is near and deploy when it is away. Test each sensor individually and align the magnets on the doors as needed.
The circuit board that runs the system may be faulty. Call CURT product support at 844-278-4357 for assistance.
The system has built-in protection against quick cycling to prevent damage. Turn the on/off switch to off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it back on. This will reset the system and allow it to work normally again.
Apply a dry, graphite powder lubricant on each pivot point to eliminate squeaking and rubbing sounds.
