The B&W Turnoverball underbed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, dependable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when you're done, you can stow the ball upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean appearance.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system secures in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin that is incorporated into the end of the operating handle. This ensures absolute security when you're towing. When you're done towing, simply remove the hitch ball, flip it upside down, and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, making latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch. This also helps to prevent any buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.

Yes, the Model 1019 is designed to fit both short bed and long bed trucks. However, the 4-inch hole location differs: for an 8-foot long bed, measure 50 inches from the rear edge of the bed; for a short bed (less than 8 feet long), measure 44 1/8 inches from the rear edge. Additionally, cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers, so you must measure the trailers to be towed to ensure adequate turning clearance between the trailer nose and the truck cab.
The Model 1019 comes equipped with a 2-5/16-inch ball. Trailers towed with this ball must have a 2-5/16-inch coupler. Towing with a larger coupler could cause loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.

Lifting the vehicle is recommended but not strictly required. The manual states that installation requires the installer to be under the truck bed in the area of the rear axle, and lifting the vehicle makes this area more accessible and improves the installation process. If you do lift the vehicle, use only equipment designed for lifting and positioning vehicles for service. Failure to use proper lifting equipment may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
Before installation, you must remove: the spare tire (following vehicle manufacturer's instructions), the spare tire heat shield (six bolts with 13mm socket), the heat shield above the rear axle (cut along the cross member with tin snips and remove T25 Torx screws), the brake line bracket on the driver side frame (10mm socket), and the wiring bracket on the frame in front of the differential (10mm socket). If wheel well liners are present, remove two T15 Torx screws so the liners can be folded up. If your truck has a diesel engine, cut the heat shield above the rear edge of the DEF tank as access allows. Yes, drilling is required. You must cut a 4-inch diameter hole in the truck bed using a 4-inch hole saw or saber saw with a metal cutting blade. The hole location depends on bed length: 50 inches from the rear edge for an 8-foot long bed, or 44 1/8 inches from the rear edge for a short bed (less than 8 feet long). The hole must be centered between the wheel wells. Additionally, you must drill four 1/2-inch holes through the truck bed floor to install the safety chain U-bolts. These holes should match up with the two sets of holes on each side of the center section. You may drill from the bottom using the center as a guide, or drill a smaller pilot hole from the bottom and drill the 1/2-inch holes from the top.
Yes. You must remove a section of the exhaust heat shield above the rear axle. Locate the bed cross member directly over the axle, and cut along the cross member with tin snips or another suitable tool. The section of heat shield in front of this cross member will be removed and discarded. Make sure no heat shield protrudes past the front of the cross member. Remove the T25 Torx screws holding the front of the heat shield to the truck. Additionally, if your truck has a diesel engine, cut the heat shield above the rear edge of the DEF tank as access allows.
Yes, the hole may be cut through both the plastic bed liner and the bed. However, the manual warns that the center of the truck bed may be more difficult to locate, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage. If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, you will need to account for the thickness of the applied liner when measuring and add that thickness to the measurement from the rear edge of the bed.
Yes, if your truck is equipped with wheel well liners, you must cut an access hole in the liner. Draw a line on the liners between the two holes of the screws that were removed. Drill a pilot hole on the line 8-3/4 inches forward of the rear hole, making sure this pilot hole lines up with the latch pin mechanism on the center. Use a hole saw or other method to cut a 1-inch to 1.5-inch diameter hole in this location.
The eight bolts attaching the center section to the cross members must be torqued to 110 ft. lbs. each.
The bolts in the side plate ears must be torqued to 110 ft. lbs. The side plate frame stud connection must be torqued to 110 ft. lbs. The U-bolt nuts must be torqued to 40 ft. lbs., alternating between the top and bottom threads so the U-bolt is secured evenly.
The lock nuts on the safety chain U-bolts must be tightened until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
The sequence is: 1) Install the front cross member first, orienting it with the heel of the angle up and the flange with holes towards the back of the truck. 2) Install the center section, positioning it over the differential and axle, then lifting it so the raised portion on top passes through the 4-inch hole in the bed. 3) Install the rear cross member, orienting it with the bar vertical and threaded holes closer to the top. 4) Attach the center to the cross members using 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch cap screws, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Leave these bolted connections loose, engaging only 3–4 threads, until the hitch is squared. For diesel trucks, the center must install before the rear cross member, and the exhaust may need to be shifted to the passenger side.
Starting in the driver side wheel well, orient the front cross member (angle iron) so that the heel of the angle is up and the flange with holes is towards the back of the truck. Pass the cross member between the bed and the frame until it rests on the passenger side frame. Roll the cross member so that the flange with holes is vertical. Install a 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch cap screw into the second hole from the driver side of the cross member with the threads towards the back of the truck. Install the rubber O-ring onto this bolt to keep it in place during installation. Push the passenger side of the cross member forward until it hits the shock bracket. Push the driver side of the cross member forward to make extra room for the center section to be installed.
Starting behind the differential under the truck, hold the center section so that the top is facing towards the back of the truck and the latch pin handle is on the driver side. Position the center section over the differential and axle and move it towards the driver side between the frame and the axle. Move the center towards the driver side far enough that the passenger side can be lifted up past the exhaust. Roll and lift the center up towards the passenger side of the truck so that the top is towards the bed and the passenger side is over the exhaust. Lift the driver side of the center up and forward so that it is positioned over the fuel tank. Use caution, as plastic components located on top of the fuel tank can be easily damaged during this process.
Starting in the driver side wheel well, orient the cross member so that the bar is vertical and the threaded holes are closer to the top of the bar. Pass the cross member between the bed and the frame until it rests on the passenger side frame. Center the cross member between the bed flanges on either side of the truck. Push the cross member back against the bed cross member to make room for the center section.
Lift the center section so that the raised portion on the top passes through the 4-inch hole drilled in the bed. Secure with a lifting device if available. Slide the front cross member back against the center section so that the bolt installed previously in the front cross member goes into the center section slot directly across from it. Line up the rest of the holes and attach the two members with 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch long cap screws, flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Insert four 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch bolts, with flat and lock washers installed, through the rear leg of the center section into the threaded holes of the rear cross member. Leave these bolted connections loose, engaging only 3–4 threads, for the time being.
After attaching the center section to the cross members, check for gaps larger than 1/16 inch between the top of the frame and the bottom of the cross members. If a gap is present, place a frame spacer under each end of the cross members. If a lifting device was not used, look for a gap between the bottom of the bed and the top of the center section. If no gaps are found, you may discard the frame spacers and proceed without them.
Pass the side plates over the U-bolts and studs placed in the frame. Secure each side plate with flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Attach the front flange of the side plate to the front angle cross member by placing a 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch bolt through the front cross member, then secure to the side plate with a lock washer and nut. Next, attach the side plate to the rear bar by placing a 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch bolt with a lock washer through the side plate flange and threading it into the rear cross member. Leave these bolted connections loose for the time being.
Each side plate uses a U-bolt for attachment to the frame. On the driver side, the U-bolt must be passed under the brake lines on the side of the frame. On the passenger side, the U-bolt must be positioned under the wiring that runs over the top of the frame. Move the U-bolts so that they hang roughly 8 inches in front of the axle center line.
Locate the oval hole on the outside of the frame directly over the center line of the axle. Place a 1/2-inch × 1-1/2-inch carriage bolt through a locking strap. Thread a fish wire onto the end of the carriage bolt. From the inside of the frame, pass the fish wire through the oval hole. While holding the fish wire on the outside of the frame, push the locking strap and carriage bolt into the frame. Continue pulling on the fish wire until the threaded portion of the bolt is sticking out of the frame. Turn the carriage bolt until the square shoulder engages the square hole of the strap. Before removing the fish wire, thread the oval frame spacer on the carriage bolt and into the oval slot. Remove the fish wire and thread a bolt retainer on the carriage bolt to hold the bolt in place. Repeat on the other side of the truck.
Start by hand tightening each of the bolts attaching the center section to the cross members. Next, with a tape measure, check the distance between the Turnoverball hitch and the nearest bed cross member. The distance between the hitch and the cross member should be consistent on the driver side and the passenger side of the hitch. The hitch must be square in the truck; if the center section is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck.
Tighten the bolted connections in the side plates in this order: 1st, tighten the hardware attaching the side plates to the cross members. 2nd, tighten the nuts attaching the side plates to the frame studs installed inside the frame. 3rd, tighten the U-bolt nuts to the frame. Once all the hardware is snug, torque the bolts in the side plate ears to 110 ft. lbs. Tighten the side plate frame stud connection to 110 ft. lbs. Tighten both side plate U-bolts alternating between the top and bottom threads so that the U-bolt is secured evenly, and torque nuts on U-bolts to 40 ft. lbs.
Install the latch pin release handle by inserting it, from the outside of the truck, through the slot in the end of the center section on the driver side of the truck. Align the handle eyelet with the square hole in the latch pin so the handle is in line with the latch. Secure the handle to the pin with the 5/16-inch × 3/4-inch carriage bolt and 5/16-inch locking flange. Note: the included 5/16-inch cap screw can replace the carriage bolt if wrench access on the cab side of the handle is limited. Tighten the nut until it is secure. When tightening the handle, position it so that it will not rub on the center, the side plate, the bed flange, or the liner. Retract and release the handle slowly to make sure it will not hang up on any obstacles that may prevent the latch pin from fully engaging the socket. Do not over-tighten and deform the handle eyelet.
To install the safety chain U-bolts: 1) Drill four 1/2-inch holes through the truck bed floor so that they match up with the two sets of holes on each side of the center section. You may drill from the bottom using the center as a guide, or drill a smaller pilot hole from the bottom and drill the 1/2-inch holes from the top side of the bed. 2) From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. 3) Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2-inch lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
After installation is complete, replace the wire bracket, brake line bracket, and spare tire heat shield which were removed during the Prepare to Install section. If the exhaust was lowered, re-attach the tail pipe hangers. If wheel well liners were present, re-install the T15 Torx screws and screw retainer that were removed earlier. Replace the spare tire if it was removed prior to installing the hitch.
To retract the pin: Pull the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab. The handle should stay in this position. The latch should only be put in this open position when inverting the 2-5/16-inch ball or installing a B&W towing accessory. To engage the pin: Move the handle toward the rear of the truck until the handle retracts and engages the 2-5/16-inch ball. When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2-5/16-inch ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in a loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.
Operating the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position may allow the handle to come into contact with the rear tire. This may damage the tire or the handle and could lead to serious injury or death. The latch should only be put in the open position when inverting the 2-5/16-inch ball or installing a B&W towing accessory.
Inverting the ball while hauling heavy loads may cause the ball to strike the truck's differential, drive line, or other components. You must inspect the relationship between the ball and truck components to ensure proper clearance. Failure to remove the ball when hauling heavy loads may result in property damage, injury, or death. A cover to prevent debris from entering the socket while operating without the ball in place is available from B&W.
The handle operates in a very tight space within the wheel well of the truck. Use caution when operating the handle so that your hands and fingers do not get injured on the sharp edges of the truck, or by getting pinched against the frame due to the force of the spring-loaded latch pin.
Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of the coupler, tow or tongue rating of the hitch, or tow or weight ratings of the truck or trailer. See vehicle and trailer manufacturer information for ratings. Exceeding these ratings may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between the trailer and truck. Without proper knowledge, towing can be a dangerous activity. Understand all the risks involved with towing before proceeding. For information on towing safety, see "The Trailer Handbook: A Guide to Understanding Trailer and Towing Safety" from the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers (www.NATM.com) and your trailer manufacturer's owner's manual. Additional caution must be used when towing a wedge car trailer. Towing stability greatly depends on keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. Load heavy cars over the axles. Never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. When towing a wedge car trailer, never exceed speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions (e.g., turns, going around a curve, etc.). Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the truck and trailer.
Cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers. You must measure the trailers to be towed with this hitch to be sure that the location of the 2-5/16-inch ball will provide ample turning clearance between the nose of the trailers and the cab of the truck. Failure to ensure that there will be adequate clearance may result in significant property damage or serious injury.
Most trucks have fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wires, or other vehicle systems located along the frame rails or in the general area where B&W Turnoverball hitches install. Carefully examine the locations of these systems before installation. Make certain that these are not damaged during positioning hitch components, drilling holes, or tightening fasteners. Damage to these systems may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
Do not modify this product in any manner. Doing so could alter its integrity and lead to a loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.
A visual inspection of the hitch should be performed before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure, and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear is found. Towing with a hitch that has cracks or damage could result in damage to the tow vehicle, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the tow vehicle and trailer.
Apply a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank of the 2-5/16-inch ball. Re-apply lubricant as often as needed during use.

When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2-5/16-inch ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver.
Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage. The hole must be cut precisely at the specified distance from the rear edge of the bed (50 inches for 8-foot long bed, 44 1/8 inches for short bed) and centered between the wheel wells. The hitch must be square in the truck. If the center section is not parallel with the axle, certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck.
