Equip your vehicle with this robust hitch to safely tow your gooseneck trailer. The removable ball can be stored upside down in the hitch when not in use, providing complete bed access. The square ball base is designed to stay put in the hitch.
The B&W Turnoverball under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, reliable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when not in use, the ball can be stowed upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean look.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system is secured in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin integrated into the end of the operating handle. To lock the ball in place, drop it into the hitch hole in your truck bed. Then rotate the handle in your driver's-side wheel well counterclockwise until the latch engages. When the latch is engaged, the spring-loaded pin on the end of the handle will be inserted all the way through the base of the hitch ball, forming a strong, solid connection for secure towing.
When you're done towing, remove the hitch ball by pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. Flip the ball upside down and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, unlike typical gooseneck balls with round bases. This design makes latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch, making pin alignment a breeze. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage, preventing any dirt or grime buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.

No. The 1057R is designed only for short bed trucks (less than 8 feet long). The 4" hole location is measured at 44 1/8" from the rear edge of the bed, which is specific to short bed geometry. Use a 4" hole saw or mark the hole and cut with a saber saw equipped with a metal cutting blade. Remove any burrs created during cutting. You will also drill four 1/2" holes through the bed to mount the safety chain U-bolts.
Yes. A section of the exhaust heat shield must be removed. Locate the bed cross member directly over the axle and the next one forward (toward the front of the truck). Cut the heat shield section between these two cross members using tin snips or an air chisel. Ensure that no heat shield protrudes past the front of the bed cross member that is directly over the axle.
Yes. A small notch must be made in the sheet metal flange that hangs down from the bottom of the truck bed floor on the passenger side. Locate the truck bed cross member over the axle in the wheel well on the passenger side. Measure 6–1/2" from the front of the cross member and mark the center point. Cut a 1" wide by 1/2" tall notch. This allows the front cross member to slide into position.
On some models, a fuel valve mounted on the rear of the fuel tank (gas engines only) can make installation of the center section more difficult. The manual provides instructions to temporarily remove and replace this fuel valve to ease installation. If your truck has this valve, follow the steps in the "Install Center Section" section to disengage the locking pin, slide the valve from the bracket, and reinstall it after the center section is in place.
Use a tape measure hooked over the rear edge of the bed at the tailgate end. For short bed trucks (less than 8 feet long), measure 44 1/8" from the rear edge. Next, locate the center of the bed by measuring the distance between the wheel wells and dividing by two. The center of the hole will be at the intersection of the center of the bed and the 44 1/8" distance. If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, add the thickness of the applied liner to your measurement.
The hole may be cut through both the liner and the bed. However, the center of the truck bed may be more difficult to locate, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, add the thickness of the applied liner to your measurement when determining the 4" hole location. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage.
Yes. To ease installation of the center section, remove the tail pipe hanger from the rubber mount by prying the pin out of the rubber mount. Once this is done, a spacer can be placed between the frame and tail pipe to add clearance between the tail pipe and the bottom of the truck bed. Re-attach the exhaust bracket after installation is complete.
Tighten hardware in this order: (1) Center section bolts to 110 ft. lbs.; (2) Side plate clamp and U-bolt alternating slowly between top and bottom legs so they are equally tightened to 40 ft. lbs.; (3) Bolts holding side plates to front and rear hitch cross members to 110 ft. lbs.; (4) Rear side plate studs to 110 ft. lbs. It is very important to follow this sequence.
The center section bolts must be tightened to 110 ft. lbs. These are the 1/2" x 1–1/2" bolts that attach the front cross member to the center section and the rear cross member to the center section. Tighten these first in the hardware tightening sequence.
The side plate clamp and U-bolt must be tightened to 40 ft. lbs. Tighten them alternately and slowly between the top and bottom legs so they are equally tightened. This tightening is done after the center section bolts are tightened to 110 ft. lbs.
The bolts holding the side plates to the front and rear hitch cross members must be tightened to 110 ft. lbs. The rear side plate studs must also be tightened to 110 ft. lbs. These are tightened after the side plate clamp and U-bolt are tightened to 40 ft. lbs.
Insert the handle through the slot in the end of the center section on the driver side of the truck. Align the handle eyelet with the square hole in the latch pin so the handle is in line with the latch. Secure the handle to the pin with a 5/16" x 3/4" carriage bolt and 5/16" locking flange nut. The included 5/16" cap screw can replace the carriage bolt if wrench access on the cab side of the handle is limited. Tighten the nut until secure but do not over-tighten and deform the handle eyelet. The latch pin will not function properly if the handle is not installed correctly.
The center section has holes for mounting safety chain U-bolts. Examine the holes to determine which set aligns with a low rib of the truck bed (the hitch is designed so U-bolts sit in a low rib to reduce bed obstruction). From under the bed, drill through the bed using a 1/2" drill bit, using the four holes that match up with a low rib as a guide. Remove any burrs. From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2" lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
Raise the center section into position between the cross members and carefully move it above the fuel tank from beneath the truck. The receiver socket must be positioned to the rear with the latch pin release arm on the driver side. A lifting device (as described in the manual) will help. The round hitch receiver that protrudes from the top of the center section must fit through the 4" hole in the truck bed floor.
Slide the front cross member back against the center section so that the bolt installed previously in the front cross member goes into the center section hole directly across from it. Line up the rest of the holes and attach the two members with 1/2" x 1–1/2" long bolts, lock washers, and nuts. Insert four 1/2" x 1–1/2" bolts, with flat and lock washers installed, through the rear leg of the center section into the threaded holes of the rear cross member. Hand tighten hardware only at this time; final tightening is done in the tightening sequence step.
Install side plate studs first (see manual for stud installation details). Place a 1/2" flat washer over each stud to allow the side plate to sit uniformly when tightened. Guide the rear most hole in the side plate over the stud and secure with a flat washer, lock washer, and 1/2" nut, hand tightening until the side plate is against the frame. Attach the front flange of the side plate to the front angle cross member with a 1/2" x 1–1/2" bolt, flat washer, lock washer, and nut. Attach the side plate to the rear bar with a 1/2" x 1–1/2" bolt, flat washer, and lock washer, threading it into the threaded hole in the bar. Hand tighten all hardware at this stage.
Install the side plate clamp on the driver side first. The clamp has two studs welded on the legs that pass through the remaining holes in the side plate. There is a notch cut in the top, inner part of the clamp that allows clearance for the brake lines on the top of the frame. The small hole in the clamp should be toward the bottom. Slide the clamp between the wiring harness and the inside of the frame, making sure the top part goes over the brake lines. Push the clamp outward, placing the studs through the holes in the side plate. Be careful not to damage brake lines or wires. The clamp will sit at a diagonal when installed correctly. Place a 1/2" lock washer and nut on the studs. Install the second clamp around the passenger side frame in the same way. Hand tighten all hardware at this stage.
Before each tow, perform a visual inspection of the hitch. Check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear is found. Towing with a cracked or damaged hitch could result in damage to the tow vehicle, trailer, towing components, or loss of attachment between the tow vehicle and trailer.
Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of the coupler, tow or tongue rating of the hitch, or tow or weight ratings of the truck or trailer. See the vehicle and trailer manufacturer information for specific ratings. Exceeding these ratings may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between the trailer and truck.
Additional caution must be used when towing a wedge car trailer. Towing stability greatly depends on keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. Load heavy cars over the axles. Never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. When towing a wedge car trailer, never exceed speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions (e.g., turns, going around a curve, etc.). Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the truck and trailer.
Cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers. Before installation, measure the trailers to be towed with this hitch to ensure that the location of the 2–5/16" ball will provide ample turning clearance between the nose of the trailers and the cab of the truck. Failure to ensure adequate clearance may result in significant property damage or serious injury.
The handle operates in a very tight space within the wheel well of the truck. Use caution when operating the handle so that your hands and fingers do not get injured on the sharp edges of the truck or by getting pinched against the frame due to the force of the spring-loaded latch pin. Do not operate the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position; the handle may come into contact with the rear tire, which may damage the tire or the handle and could lead to serious injury or death.
Inverting the ball while hauling heavy loads may cause the ball to strike the truck's differential, driveline, or other components. Inspect the relationship between the ball and truck components to ensure proper clearance. Failure to remove the ball when hauling heavy loads may result in property damage, injury, or death. A cover to prevent debris from entering the socket while operating without the ball in place is available from B&W.
After installation is complete: (1) Replace the spare tire if it was removed. (2) Modify the fender liner if present and restricts handle movement by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely; reinstall if it was removed. (3) Retract the pin by pulling the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab; the handle should stay in this position. (4) Lubricate the 2–5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank. (5) Engage the pin by moving the handle toward the rear of the truck until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. (6) Re-read all warnings on the front page of the instructions.
When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2–5/16" ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in a loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle. After moving the handle toward the rear of the truck, verify that the handle retracts and the pin fully engages.
A visual inspection of the hitch should be performed before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Check for cracks or damage to the hitch.
