Equip your vehicle with this robust hitch to safely tow your gooseneck trailer. The removable ball can be stored upside down in the hitch when not in use, providing complete bed access. The square ball base is designed to stay put in the hitch.
The B&W Turnoverball under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, reliable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when not in use, the ball can be stowed upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean look.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system is secured in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin integrated into the end of the operating handle. To lock the ball in place, drop it into the hitch hole in your truck bed. Then rotate the handle in your driver's-side wheel well counterclockwise until the latch engages. When the latch is engaged, the spring-loaded pin on the end of the handle will be inserted all the way through the base of the hitch ball, forming a strong, solid connection for secure towing.
When you're done towing, remove the hitch ball by pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. Flip the ball upside down and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, unlike typical gooseneck balls with round bases. This design makes latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch, making pin alignment a breeze. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage, preventing any dirt or grime buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.
B&W makes it easy to tow just about anything. With the many adapters and accessories available, the Turnoverball can be made to work with almost any gooseneck trailer. Hitch balls are available that have a built-in rise, an offset, and even a different connection type. Yes. The Model 1104R is designed for 2004–2014 Ford 1/2 ton trucks with all bed lengths, including short beds. However, cab clearance on short bed trucks is very limited when towing certain trailers. You must measure the trailers you plan to tow and verify that the 2–5/16" ball location will provide adequate turning clearance between the trailer nose and the truck cab before installation.
The product was designed to fit vehicles in their original, "as manufactured" condition. Compatibility with vehicles having replacement parts or other modifications is not guaranteed. The Model 1104R comes equipped with a 2–5/16" ball. Trailers towed with this ball must have a 2–5/16" coupler. Towing with a larger coupler could cause loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle. Do not use a different ball size without confirming compatibility with your trailer.
Required tools include: impact wrench or ratchet with 3/4" and 15/16" sockets; 1/2", 3/4" and 15/16" box end wrenches; torque wrench; 4" hole saw (or saber saw with metal cutting blade); drill with 1/2" bit and pilot hole bit; pry bar; tape measure; marking tool (pencil or permanent marker); flashlight; eye protection; and ear protection. A lifting device is optional but recommended to safely hold the hitch during installation.

Yes. You must remove the spare tire following the vehicle manufacturer's instructions before installation. This provides easier access to the area where the hitch will be installed. The spare tire should be reinstalled after the hitch installation is complete.
Yes. Installation requires the installer to work under the truck bed in the area of the rear axle. Lifting the vehicle makes this area more accessible and improves the installation process. Use only equipment designed for lifting and positioning vehicles for service. Failure to use proper lifting equipment may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
A lifting device is optional but recommended. Its purpose is to safely hold the hitch in position during part of the installation. A simple mechanical lifting device is available for purchase from B&W. See Figure A1 in the manual for an example of a suitable device.
The 4" hole must be cut at a precise location: 45–1/8" from the rear edge of the bed (measured at the tailgate end) and centered between the wheel wells. To find the center of the bed, measure the distance between the wheel wells and divide by two. The center of the hole is at the intersection of these two measurements. The hitch is designed to install only at this location. Failure to place the hole precisely may result in installation difficulty or property damage.
If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, you must account for the thickness of the applied liner when measuring. Add the thickness of the liner that has been sprayed over the end of the bed to your measurement from the rear edge. This ensures the hole is cut in the correct location relative to the truck bed structure.
Yes, the hole may be cut through both the plastic bed liner and the bed. However, the center of the truck bed may be more difficult to locate, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage. Take extra care to mark and cut accurately.
You can cut the hole using either a 4" hole saw or by marking out the 4" hole and using a saber saw equipped with a metal cutting blade. After cutting, remove any burrs created during the cutting process.
If a fender liner is present that restricts the movement of the latch pin release handle, it is recommended that you modify it by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely. If the liner was removed for installation, reinstall it after modification. This ensures the handle can operate without obstruction.
The installation sequence is: (1) Remove spare tire and prepare vehicle; (2) Mark and cut the 4" hole in the truck bed; (3) Install the rear cross member through the driver side wheel well; (4) Install the front cross member through the driver side wheel well; (5) Install the center section between the cross members; (6) Install side plates; (7) Install side plate U-bolts and tighten to specification; (8) Tighten all center section and side plate bolts to specification; (9) Install latch pin release handle; (10) Drill and install safety chain U-bolts; (11) Prepare for towing by lubricating the ball and engaging the pin; (12) Reinstall spare tire.
Select the rear cross member that is notched on one side. Position it with the long (2–1/2") side of the angle iron pointing down and the short (2") side with the notches facing the rear of the truck. Push it through the opening in the wheel well on the driver's side of the truck, positioning it across the top of the frame rails between the bed and frame. Make certain that the notches fit tightly against the truck bed cross member on the back of the truck.
Select the second cross member without notches and push it through the opening in the wheel well on the driver side of the truck. Position it between the bed and frame, approximately 9" away from the rear cross member. The two cross members should be approximately parallel, spaced in front and behind the hole in the truck bed floor, and hanging over the same distance on each side of the frame rails.
With the latch pin mechanism on the driver side of the truck, raise the center section of the hitch into position between the cross members from beneath the truck. The round tube hitch receiver that protrudes from the center section must fit through the 4" hole in the truck bed floor. Fasten the center section to the cross members using seven 1/2" × 1–1/2" bolts. Start these bolts through the holes in the cross member and place a flat washer, lock washer and nut on each bolt. Do not fully tighten at this time; final tightening occurs after side plates are installed.
Yes. Vehicles equipped with a NO-CAP fuel neck have a drain/vent hose attached to the frame on the driver side in the area where the rear shock mounts to the frame. This hose must be detached from the frame and relocated before installing the driver side plate to avoid interference or damage.
Install the side plates by placing the top back hole over the stud on the rear cross member with a flat washer, lock washer, and nut. Then bolt the front flange of the side plate to the front cross member with a bolt, flat washer, lock washer, and nut. Do not fully tighten hardware at this time; final tightening occurs after U-bolts are installed and tightened.
Place a flat washer, lock washer, and nut on one end of the 2" U-bolt. Place the other end into the smaller hole at the front of the side plate and twist through the frame until the threaded end protrudes out the other hole of the side plate. Next place the side plate insert over this end, ensuring that the straight edge of the insert lines up with the straight edge of the hole of the side plate and is pushed into the frame all the way. (The insert will not set flush against the side plate when tightened if not properly aligned.) Then place a lock washer and nut on the U-bolt and tighten both ends to 45 ft. lbs.
Tighten both ends of each 2" side plate U-bolt to 45 ft. lbs. using a torque wrench.
Tighten the seven 1/2" × 1–1/2" center section bolts to 90 ft. lbs. using a torque wrench.
Tighten the two bolts that fasten the side plates to the cross members on each side to 90 ft. lbs. using a torque wrench.
Insert the latch pin release handle by inserting it through the slot in the end of the center section on the driver side of the truck. Align the handle eyelet with the square hole in the latch pin so the handle is in line with the latch. Secure the handle to the pin with the 5/16" × 3/4" carriage bolt and 5/16" locking flange nut. (The included 5/16" cap screw can replace the carriage bolt if wrench access on the cab side of the handle is limited.) Tighten the nut until secure, but do not over-tighten and deform the handle eyelet. The latch pin will not function properly if the handle is not installed correctly.
First, examine the safety chain holes in the center section to determine which holes are under a low rib of the truck bed (the hitch is designed so U-bolts will be in a low rib to reduce bed obstruction). From under the bed, use a drill and 1/2" drill bit to drill through the bed using the four holes that match up with a low rib as a guide. Remove any burrs created during drilling. From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2" lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until the nut is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
Before towing, you must: (1) Retract the latch pin by pulling the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab (the handle should stay in this position); (2) Lubricate the 2–5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank; (3) Engage the pin by moving the handle toward the rear of the truck until the handle retracts and engages the 2–5/16" ball. When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2–5/16" ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.
Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of the coupler, hitch, truck, or trailer. Trailers must have a 2–5/16" coupler to match the ball provided. Do not modify the product; doing so could alter its integrity and lead to loss of attachment. Do not operate the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position; the handle may contact the rear tire, causing damage or serious injury. When inverting the ball while hauling heavy loads, the ball may strike the truck's differential, driveline, or other components. Inspect the relationship between the ball and truck components to ensure proper clearance before inverting. A cover to prevent debris from entering the socket while operating without the ball is available from B&W. For wedge car trailers, keep the center of gravity as low as possible by loading heavy cars over the axles. Never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. Never exceed speeds that are reasonable for roadway conditions. Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and reasonable speeds may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment.
A visual inspection of the hitch should be performed before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification. Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear is found. Towing with a hitch that has cracks or damage could result in damage to the tow vehicle, trailer, towing components, or loss of attachment between the tow vehicle and trailer.
Installation hazards include: unexpected combustion of fuel, electric shock, burns, shifting or falling of unstable vehicle, damage to vehicle, and injury from tool usage. Most trucks have fuel lines, brake lines, electrical wires, or other vehicle systems located along the frame rails or in the general area where the hitch installs. Carefully examine the locations of these systems before installation and make certain they are not damaged during positioning hitch components, drilling holes, or tightening fasteners. Damage to these systems may result in property damage, serious injury, or death. Turnoverball hitch components are heavy and may be cumbersome to handle. Failure to use proper lifting techniques and caution when handling these items could result in serious injury. The handle operates in a very tight space within the wheel well. Use caution when operating the handle so that your hands and fingers do not get injured on sharp edges or by getting pinched against the frame due to the force of the spring-loaded latch pin.
After installation is complete: (1) Reinstall the spare tire; (2) Retract the latch pin by pulling the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab; (3) Lubricate the 2–5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank; (4) Engage the pin by moving the handle toward the rear of the truck until the handle retracts and engages the ball; (5) Modify the fender liner if necessary to allow the handle to move freely; (6) Re-read all warnings on the front page of the instructions. If you are not the end user, make sure that users of this product receive a copy of these instructions.

When installing the U-bolt, ensure that the straight edge of the insert lines up with the straight edge of the hole of the side plate and is pushed into the frame all the way. If the insert is not properly aligned before tightening, it will not set flush against the side plate. Loosen the U-bolt, reposition the insert with correct alignment, and retighten to 45 ft. lbs.
