Equip your vehicle with this robust hitch to safely tow your gooseneck trailer. The removable ball can be stored upside down in the hitch when not in use, providing complete bed access. The square ball base is designed to stay put in the hitch.
The B&W Turnoverball under-bed gooseneck trailer hitch offers the best of both worlds. It provides a sturdy, reliable connection with your gooseneck trailer for towing, and when not in use, the ball can be stowed upside down in the hitch for full bed access and a clean look.
The durable steel hitch ball included with the Turnoverball system is secured in the hitch with a sturdy, 5/8" thick steel pin integrated into the end of the operating handle. To lock the ball in place, drop it into the hitch hole in your truck bed. Then rotate the handle in your driver's-side wheel well counterclockwise until the latch engages. When the latch is engaged, the spring-loaded pin on the end of the handle will be inserted all the way through the base of the hitch ball, forming a strong, solid connection for secure towing.
When you're done towing, remove the hitch ball by pulling the handle out as far as it will go and then rotating it clockwise until it unlatches. Flip the ball upside down and drop it back into the ball hole of the hitch. Then reengage the latch to secure the stowed ball in place.
The Turnoverball hitch ball is designed with a square base, unlike typical gooseneck balls with round bases. This design makes latching the ball in the hitch easier as the base won't rotate inside of the hitch, making pin alignment a breeze. The base of the ball also fits tightly within the ball hole during storage, preventing any dirt or grime buildup that could cause the ball to seize up in the hitch.
This hitch is custom designed for your vehicle. The included mounting brackets bolt to existing holes in your truck's frame. While some modification is required - you will need to cut a 4" diameter hole in your bed for the hitch ball and drill holes for the built-in safety chain loops - there is no need to weld onto or to drill into your frame.
Once you have the hitch brackets and body installed, set up the operating handle. This handle is designed to be accessed from the rear driver's-side wheel well. On the end of the handle is the heavy-duty steel pin that secures the hitch ball.

If you intend to use an 18K Companion 5th wheel RV hitch model 3000 in a 2011–2016 Ford truck, you must call B&W at 800-248-6564 for a foot pad kit that fills the voids in the truck bed rib pattern. Using the Companion without the supplemental kit could result in damage to the bed.
Required tools include: impact wrench or ratchet with 7/16", 1/2", 3/4", and 1-1/8" sockets; 7/16", 1/2", 3/4", and 1-1/8" box end wrenches; marking tool (pencil or permanent marker); 4" hole saw; drill with 1/2" bit; flashlight; eye protection; ear protection; torque wrench; tape measure; and a lifting device. Yes. You must remove the spare tire before installation to provide easier access to the area where the hitch will be installed. Follow your vehicle manufacturer's instructions for removal. Replace the spare tire after installation is complete.
Lifting the vehicle is optional but recommended. Installation requires the installer to work under the truck bed in the area of the rear axle. Lifting the vehicle makes this area more accessible and improves the installation process. Use only equipment designed for lifting and positioning vehicles for service. Failure to use proper lifting equipment may result in property damage, serious injury, or death.
On diesel-equipped trucks, the tail pipe must be lowered. Disconnect the tail pipe bracket just behind the rear tire on the passenger side. On gasoline-equipped trucks, disconnecting the exhaust is optional but may make installation easier. The bracket will be reattached later using an extension bracket and spacer.
Yes. On trucks with gasoline engines, you must disconnect the fuel vent line bracket on the inside of the driver side frame before installing the side plates. Once installation is complete, replace the fuel vent line bracket.
Yes. If your truck is equipped with a heat shield attached to the bed above the rear axle, pry it off and discard it. The hitch will replace this heat shield as a barrier between the exhaust and the bed.
The 4-inch hole must be located 46-1/8" from the rear edge of the bed (at the tailgate end) for both long and short beds. To find the exact location: 1) Hook a tape measure over the rear edge of the bed and measure 46-1/8" forward. 2) Locate the center of the bed by measuring the distance between the wheel wells and dividing by two. 3) The center of the hole will be at the intersection of these two measurements. Mark this location with a pencil or permanent marker. The hitch is designed to install only at this described location. Failure to place the hole precisely may result in added difficulty during installation or property damage.
Cut the hole in the marked location using either a 4-inch hole saw or by marking out the 4-inch hole and using a saber saw equipped with a metal cutting blade. Remove any burrs created while cutting the hole. If your truck has a spray-in bed liner, account for the thickness of the applied liner when measuring and cutting.
Some models of trucks will allow the cross members to slide between the frame and bed without modification. If this is not possible, a small notch must be made in the flange on the driver side of the truck. Locate the front truck bed cross member in the wheel well. Measure from the back of the cross member and make a mark at 1-1/2". Mark and cut a 7/8" wide by 3/8" tall notch at this location.
Yes, the hole may be cut through both the plastic bed liner and the bed. However, the center of the truck bed may be more difficult to locate, and the mark may be harder to hit if the liner slides or moves. Failure to cut the hole in the correct location may adversely affect the installation and may result in property damage.
If a fender liner is present that restricts the movement of the latch pin release handle, it is recommended that you modify it by cutting a relief slot or hole to allow the handle to move freely. If the liner was removed for installation, reinstall it after the hitch is complete.
1) Install the rear cross member first by sliding it between the frame and bed on the driver's side, using the notch cut into the bed flange if necessary. The leg with oval holes should face toward the cab. Roll it over the shock bracket and slide it back until it is about four inches behind the 4-inch hole. 2) Install the front cross member using similar methods, with the leg having oval holes facing toward the rear. Slide it just behind the shock bracket. 3) Raise the center section into position between the cross members from beneath the truck, with the latch pin release handle on the driver's side. Position it over the exhaust first, then over the brake line bracket. The round hitch receiver must fit through the hole in the truck bed floor. 4) Bolt the cross members to the center section using six 1/2" x 1-1/2" bolts with flat washers, lock washers, and nuts. Hand tighten only at this time.
1) Install the side plates on the outside of the frame by passing a 3/4" hex bolt and washer from the inside of the frame to the outside. The driver side uses a non-standard custom washer. 2) Place a spacer ring over the 3/4" bolt on the outside of the frame. 3) Carefully place the side plate over the 3/4" bolt and secure with a lock washer and nut. 4) Install 1/2" bolts in the front and rear of the side plate, starting with a 1/2" bolt on the inside of the frame and adding a flat washer, lock washer, and nut on the outside. 5) Repeat for both sides of the truck frame. 6) Attach the side plates to the front and rear cross members with 1/2" hardware. Hold the side plates tight against the frame while tightening.
On certain models of Diesel Ford Super Duty, a sensor control module is located over a hole needed to install the passenger side plate. A relocation bracket has been supplied. 1) Locate the module on the inside of the passenger frame rail. 2) Remove the two bolts holding the module to the frame. Do not remove heat shielding from the wiring harness; wiring must remain as close to its original location as possible to protect it from exhaust heat. 3) When installing the passenger side plate, add the supplied relocation bracket to the 3/4" bolt. 4) Attach the module to the bracket with the two factory bolts. 5) Insert the 3/4" bolt through the oval slot in the frame and continue with side plate installation.
1) Insert the handle through the slot in the end of the center section on the driver side of the truck. 2) Align the handle eyelet with the square hole in the latch pin so the handle is in line with the latch. 3) Secure the handle to the pin with a 5/16" x 3/4" carriage bolt and 5/16" locking flange nut. Alternatively, the included 5/16" cap screw can replace the carriage bolt if wrench access on the cab side of the handle is limited. 4) Tighten the nut until secure. Do not over-tighten and deform the handle eyelet. The latch pin will not function properly if the handle is not installed correctly.
1) Examine the safety chain holes in the center section to determine which holes are under a low rib of the truck bed (the hitch is designed so U-bolts will be in a low rib to reduce obstruction). 2) From under the bed, use a drill with a 1/2" bit to drill through the bed using the four holes that match up with a low rib as a guide. Remove any burrs created during drilling. 3) From the top side of the truck bed, drop a U-bolt in each set of holes. 4) Place a conical spring over each leg of the U-bolts and secure with a 1/2" lock nut. Tighten the lock nut until it is flush with the end of the U-bolt.
Torque the 3/4" side plate bolts to 200 ft. lbs. and all 1/2" hardware connections to 110 ft. lbs. This includes the bolts securing the cross members to the center section, the side plate bolts, and the bolts connecting the side plates to the cross members. Hold the side plates tight against the frame while tightening. Tighten the 3/4" bolts first, then the 1/2" side plate bolts, and finally the 1/2" bolts connecting the side plates to the cross members.
The 2-5/16" ball is located 46-1/8" from the rear edge of the truck bed (at the tailgate end) for both long and short beds. This location is determined by the Turnoverball design feature and truck geometry, allowing the ball to be inverted and stored below the surface of the truck bed when not in use.
The manual does not describe any electrical connections or wiring for the model 1111 hitch. The installation involves mechanical fastening only. Without proper knowledge, towing can be a dangerous activity. Understand all the risks involved with towing before proceeding. For information on towing safety, see "The Trailer Handbook: A Guide to Understanding Trailer and Towing Safety" from the National Association of Trailer Manufacturers at www.NATM.com and your trailer manufacturer's owner's manual. Do not exceed the tow or tongue rating of your coupler, hitch, truck, or trailer. Exceeding these ratings may cause damage to towing components or loss of attachment between the trailer and truck.
Additional caution must be used when towing a wedge car trailer. Towing stability greatly depends on keeping the center of gravity as low as possible. Load heavy cars over the axles. Never tow with a single car on the front of the trailer. When towing a wedge car trailer, never exceed speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions (e.g., turns, going around a curve, etc.). Failure to account for proper trailer center of gravity and speeds that are reasonable for the roadway conditions may cause damage to the truck, trailer, towing components, and loss of attachment between the truck and trailer.
1) Lubricate the 2-5/16" ball by applying a light coating of grease to the corners on the square shank. 2) Rotate the handle counterclockwise until the handle retracts and engages the 2-5/16" ball. When installed properly, the latch pin will pass through the 2-5/16" ball and fully engage through both walls of the hitch receiver. Failure of the pin to engage the ball and hitch properly could result in a loss of attachment between the trailer and the tow vehicle.
Pull the handle out all the way until it stops, then slide it toward the cab. The handle should stay in this position. The latch should only be put in this open position when inverting the 2-5/16" ball or installing a B&W towing accessory. Do not operate the tow vehicle while the latch is in the open position, as the handle may come into contact with the rear tire.
With a tape measure, check the distance between the Turnoverball hitch and the nearest bed cross member. The distance between the hitch and the cross member should be consistent on the passenger side and the driver side of the hitch. Adjust the hitch until the hitch and the bed cross member are the same distance from side to side. The hitch must be square in the truck, or certain accessories to the Turnoverball hitch will not be square with the truck, which could affect hitch performance.
Perform a visual inspection of the hitch before each time you tow. Regularly check that all pinned connections are secure and that all bolted connections are at the correct torque specification (3/4" bolts at 200 ft. lbs., 1/2" hardware at 110 ft. lbs.). Check for cracks or damage to the hitch. Do not tow with the hitch if cracks or damage outside of normal wear are found. If the rear exhaust bracket was disconnected for installation, re-attach it. On pickups equipped with a diesel engine, the exhaust may have to be lowered to allow clearance for the center section. Attach the supplied extension bracket to the existing exhaust bracket. There are two sets of holes in the bracket to allow for variations in the exhaust. Match the proper holes in the supplied bracket with the same frame hole used by the factory bracket and the hole directly to the right of it. Add the supplied spacer and attach the bracket to the frame with 5/16" carriage bolts and flange nuts. Not all truck models will have the hole to the right; in this case, attaching the bracket with one 5/16" carriage bolt is sufficient.
